[gal=31511]2009-8-29 Magnezone DP 8/130[/gal]

Playing Catch-up so getting a few Cards up that might not normally get attention!! Enjoy!! Mgmt.

Not bad, but not as good as it once was.

It use to be played for its Poke-body but is not outclassed but Flygon's Pokebody.

It could still see play in a Magnezone deck but with Fire-types on the rise, that might not be competitive any longer.

8/10 for free retreat with a metal in Magnezone deck.

2/10 on its own due to Fire-types.

This is one of the few cards that is playable in the DP set (Dusknoir being another notable one). Although Magnezone decks have had its own share of the limelight in the metagame a few sets back (mainly because of the sheer versatility of the Magnezones), it has difficulty competing with the faster decks of the current format. Being a stage 2 does not help it's case.

It's HP at 120 is nice for a Stage 2 and since it is a Metal-type, it can abuse Special Metals to make it more tankish. Weakness is fire is very bad due to Blaziken FB, Magmortar SV, and Infernape 4. Resistance to psychic is very much appreciated. It has a huge retreat cost but will not concern you much if it's Poke-Body is in use. If you are attacking with this guy, chances are it has a Metal Energy attached to it, nullifying the expensive Retreat Cost (and can be a great help to its teammates if the need arises). It's attack is nifty and really wants you to attach Special Metals to this one to make it not only tankish, but also an offensive force that should be watched out for. Unfortunately, Grind-like attacks have limited use in this format, especially since the trend is to attack with as few energies as possible. However, it is a slightly viable strategy for Magnezone because it has its own way of energy acceleration (with the help of the other Magnezones).

Once, I had to opportunity to battle someone using this Magnezone and Nidoqueen. The Magnezone managed to have 4 Special Metals on it and with the aid of the Level X, provided free retreat across the board, even to Nidoqueen. Maternal Comfort really increased the tankishness and free retreat to everyone is just annoying.

Usually, this Magnezone is considered for the Level X due to it granting free retreat (which is very appreciated due to the amount of bench manipulation taking place in the format). However, aside from that, it does not offer much. With the arrival of Flygon (RR), free retreat can also be attained without really worrying about how tight the Magnezone lines are already in themselves.

All the Magnezones have their uses and very much have synergy with each other. The problem is, the decks to slow and the weakness really screws it over in terms of ability to tank. If you ever run this outside of Magnezone decks, just run Flygon. At the very least, the dragon has more versatile attacks.

Modified- 7/10 (a nice card, but Flygon is a nice alternative if you find it hard to run too many different Magnezones)
Limited- 8.5/10 (great here with the nice HP and and the attack to abuse metal energies)

Magnizone, the flygon-like card for metal decks. only 2 problems, its a stage 2 and metal is not so much played. a 1-0-1 tech in the new metagross deck would be a good idea, nothing much else...
4/10 (its still good, just not in much.)

I don't even use this in my current Magnezone deck.

I use 1x Magnezone SF06 for discard energy retrieval.
I use 2x Magnezone SF05 for searching my deck for :lightning or :metal: pokemon.
I use the Lvl X for energy movement and the Paralyze attack.

DP 5/10.

This is the Magnezone that I find a lot of people tend to overlook a little too much. It isn't being completely ignored, but I find it silly when so many people I play against and talk to on and off Pokegym underestimate the value of this guy granting you free retreat across the board. That use above any others this card has is certainly its most valuable at this point in time with Luxray GL Lv.X, Infernape 4 Lv.X and even Pokeblower in a Speedrill deck roaming the format. The free retreating is not only valuable defensively to combat disruption tactics, but you can make use of it yourself to disrupt the opponent. Palkia Lv.X (GE) is always the one I think about most, but there are other ways to mess with your opponent's board without any drawbacks. You can use Warp Point without any worry about what you have to switch to.
Beyond the Magnetize Body, there is its attack, Metal Blast. While it looks like it would be rather silly to use because of its clear lack of that extra oomf that you see in a lot of attackers these days, it racks up the damage quicker than most people would expect. I like to use it early game when I can still get a KO with it if my opponent is setting up poorly, and then sit on it until late game. After a while, the opponent can easily forget it's there and start taking an aggressive strategy through the game. Once you have almost all of the energy in your deck on the field, Metal Blast becomes a surprise OHKO on your opponent's most valuable attacker.
The weakness is indeed a bit of a nightmare in some matchups, but so the resistance is a savior in others. You just need to be careful when you use it in some matchups.
This card is huge in almost every deck I have played this past season. I wouldn't give it anything lower than a 9/10.

Well, someone messed up, so here's a whole week's worth of reviews in a day I guess.

Magnezone from DP is one of the conerstones of the Magnezone deck; each one should use at least 1-2. Statwise, 120 HP is a bit below the average of 130, +30 Weakness to :fire: can hurt, -20 Resistance to :psychic: helps, and :colorless:colorless:colorless:colorless to Retreat is expensive (providing you haven't looked at the rest of him). Magnetize is a great Poke-Body, giving your active Pokemon with a :metal: Energy on them free retreat. This lets you easily shuffle about your Magnezone (combine with the one that allows you to move Energies) and play around with Palkia Lv X's Poke-Power as well to force anything you want to KO up. This Magnezone is also one of the main damage dealers with Metal Blast later on; for :metal::colorless:colorless, you deal 50 plus 10 more for each :metal: on Magnezone. As the deck allows you to move those Energies around, you can easily hit just enough to KO almost anything you want, providing you have enough :metal: Energies in play.

Modified - 7/10 (The deck itself is pretty much dead, but this Magnezone reminds people how it was successful; free Retreat combined with Palkia Lv X is devastating)
Limited - 5/10 (Unless you're using an all :metal: deck, stay away from this guy. Otherwise, free retreat is cool, and Metal Blast can hit big)
Unlimited - 1/10 (No use here, will never get off an attack and other ways to switch things about)
