Wow, what a coincidence! I played this card at prerelease, and that means on such an occasion, usually I rate in all categories (modifed, limited, and unlimited) only on Trainers/Supporters/or Stadiums, but because this was a Pokemon card I played in Prerelease, on today's CotD post, this Pokemon card will be an exception in which I rate it in all 3 categories.
So Arcanine is sadly a rather dissapointing card. The reason being is that it can't do much. It has 110 HP, which is great for a stage 1, but this card really can't shine right now. For 2 energies though, it can do 50, which is decent, but its second attack is really where things become outrageous. For 4 energies, it does 90. It could've used a little less energy, but however, the main advantage of Arcanine is that it can perfectly utilize DCE. If you put a DCE on Arcanine, you can do 90 for 3 energies rather than 4. Of course as for the 90 damage deal, I think it's fine, since it's close to 100 damage. The weakness isn't the best with Palkia and Kingdra running around, as well as Feraligatr Prime, which currently is becoming pretty popular, and the retreat cost is pretty dissapointing too, despite not being that heavy.
Overall 4/10 in modifed, 8/10 in limited, and 1/10 in unlimited
In modifed, this Arcanine is sadly the second worst of all the Arcanines, the worst actually being the one from SV, and the ones from RR and SW are better than it too. So really, this card really has no potential in the current format other than taking down Dialga G. The reason why it is 4/10 however is that it can take perfect advantage of DCE, and the attacks are simple and have no negatives, other than relying on DCE.
In limited, this is where we really see the card's potential. Because their are lots of :grass: Pokemon in GS, then Arcanine can really be good,n especially with DCE being in GS, in which DCE gives it speed. Trust me, in prerelease, this Arcanine helped me win a match because one of the decks I faced was a deck using :grass:, and it really was taken down by mainly Arcanine. Thus, if you go to a prerelease or draft and pull this card (as well as a Growlithe), then I would definetly recommend playing it, and don't forget to play DCE too.
In unlimited, Arcanine has no uses whatsoever.
