70 HP is decent for a Basic. Fighting Weakness is bad, and a retreat cost of 1 is decent. The 2nd attack is really bad; why would I want to waste three turns or two turns and a DCE to do a mere 30 with a slight chance of confusion? Call For Family is a pretty good attack, but Call Energy does the same effect. So all that Stantler basically ends up doing is wasting a spot in your deck and on your bench. 1/10

Although it is outclassed by Call Energy, I still like having starter Pokemon in my decks. There are some decks that benefit from having a starter as opposed to relying on Call Energy, and I like to think differently as well.

In the next format, it has the highest HP of any of the current Call-For-Family attackers that find two Basics.

This card, though, really shines in Limited.

Ok well, the only reason someone would use this is for the first attack. For :colorless:, search your deck for 2 basis and put them on your bench. I think this is terrible too, because we have pokemon collector and even corsola secret wonders (which doesn't see almost any play anyway). I say pokemon col is much much better because it doesn't use your attack.

Modified: 1.5/10 might see play as a starter next season, but not anything special
Limited: 4/10 better here because there is too much energy anyway and you need the setup
Unlimited: 1/10 one word if you want this type of card: corsola

If only this CotD post was Call Energy, but oh well. Why I'm saying this. Well, that attack of Stantler is like Call Energy.

70 HP is OK for a basic. Fighting weakness isn't the best, and the retreat cost is average.

As I mentioned earlier, Stantler's first attack is just like Call Energy. It can grab two basic Pokemon out of your deck for one energy and then you can the Pokemon onto your bench. The second attack does 30 for three and causes confusion. Ehhh.........I don't think three energy for the second attack was that necessary.

Overall 2/10 in modified, 5/10 in limited, and 2/10 in unlimited

In modified, this card is definitely inferior to Call Energy. Stantler isn't that easy to use compared to Call Energy because with Call Energy, you can grab two Pokemon from your deck in a way where this can be done on any Pokemon. For Stantler, only Stantler can do it, not like Call Energy where it can work with anything, so Stantler is definitely not the best card here.

In limited, Stantler sees some better uses. There is no Call Energy here, so this card can be a great starter whenever you are in the need of basics. If you pull out a Stantler, I would recommend using him as a starter that's for sure.

In unlimited, this card can see only a little use. Well, once again, he could be a good starter, but Call Energy outclasses it here once again.

Lol because having 4 call energys replaces every starter. Of course call is better but that doesnt mean that this guy is bad... Im pretty sure in pton he wouldve seen some play, still 5/10

As stated several times, this is a carbon copy of Call Energy. However, one of the upcoming Scizor is immune to damage from anything with Call Energy, and this is searchable by Collector (which also outclasses this) so I'd say:

(1/Graham's Number)/10 Currently
3/10 if said Scizor becomes popular

It's so ugly that I have to give it a 0/10. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind stantlers. But I never really liked Sugimori's art and I prefer the SW ones art better.

Anyways..On to playability. I won't bore anyone with my long speeches so I'll keep this short and simple. It's an OK starter but unlike Pachi, who had a decent attack with the Call 4 Family, was a type that many feared. Anyways. It's attack is horrible and overpriced. Well, actually I like confusion.

Modified 2/10 Poor Mans starter. I'd love to go over the better ones.

Limited 6/10 With no call or pachi, this card could be good, but some may just want to start attacking with whatever they have T-1

Unlimited 3/10 In my area, only Tier 1/2 techs really worth the bench space

Today's CotD is Stantler from UL...well, in another time this might have been useful, but starter Pokemon (besides Sableye in some decks) have been a dead concept since Call Energy came out, which will also be around next format as well. Anyways, statwise 70 HP is nice for a Basic, x2 Weakness to :fighting: is eh, no Resistance is common, and :colorless: to Retreat is cheap. Call for Family deals its basic effect for :colorless:, letting you grab 2 Basic Pokemon of your choice from your deck. Mystifying Horns is downright horrible at :colorless::colorless::colorless: for a pitiful 30 and Confusion.

Modified - 3/10 (Call Energy and its effect offer it far more flexibility as opposed to starter Pokemon, but if you're hurting, he at least is a sturdy starter Pokemon)
Limited - 8/10 (Shines here for Call for Family, though I'd still avoid using attack 2 if possible)
Unlimited - 1/10 (No use here, as not only are there so many better ways of getting Pokemon here, Dunsparce from SS is like the all-time king of starter Pokemon, and he's not even used that much)

e / 10.

If the attack were free it would be playable, but as it is, there are far too many better starters. Allow me to name some: jirachi, jirachi, chatot, spiritomb, and more.

I really like this actuillie it did good for me at prerelease it can screw over pokemon that have high retreat cost and call for family is good so yea i like this card

Look at the card this way. If you run 4 of either this or call energy the odds of getting one for setup either way are theoretically the same, however taking out the stantlers and replacing them with call energy significantly decreases your chance of having a basic in setup. The call energies will give you the ability to search out in lieu of your attack for the same cost as stantler. One energy attachment. The stantler however gives you a better starting hp than most basics you'd run outside of SP decks In conclusion Stantler is not worse than call energy.

6/10:Modified
8/10:Limited
1/10:Unlimited

Edit: When I say setup I mean the initial setup hand.

Stantler. Funny looking Pokemon. Actually, when you think it about it, it looks less weird than a LOT of Pokemon.

70 HP is great for a basic. Weakness of x2 to :fighting: isn't great, no resistance is bad, but common, and a retreat of :colorless: is nice.

Call for Family is the only attack I'd even consider using this card for. It has the basic effect - searching your deck for two basic Pokemon and putting them onto your Bench.

Mystifying Horns stinks for :colorless:colorless:colorless: and 30 damage, plus confusion.

Modifed: 2/10 (I would never use this card)
Limited: 6/10 (Call for Family could have some use here)
Unlimited: 1/10 (Bad attacks, and like a million other cards have basically the same Call for Family)
