1st one up! The fact that this one has a 50/50 chance of a status effect for it's first attack makes it (in my opinion) the best Oshawott to use. The 2nd atk is almost obsolete here because hopefully you've evolved it by turn 2. The only downside is that it's a promo and you either have to buy the blister pack to get it or trade someone for it.

So if you're gonna use Samurott (sp) in a deck this is the best card to start it with.

(6/10)

Second! Best Wotter, since it shuts down smeargle with a flip and can delay zps and other stuff. Not as good as snivy though :(

9/10-- Not the best wotter artwork out there, but it's decent.

Yuck! Both attacks are useless unless you flip heads, and even if you do, they're not that great. Worst oshawott card. :nonono:

1/10

Use it if you want to hand your opponent a free prize...

Not many good things to say about this card, except for its angry expression in the artwork and the evil red tint to the scan that has me very frightened.

"They call me an alien, big headed Oshawatt."

10/10
Because he is an otter who is colonraging with his clam of justice.
(This isn't a serious post)

Today's CotD is Oshawott from the BW Promos, much like the Tepig and Snivy before him, he's weaker than his BW set counterparts, both of whom offer consistent, better attacks. Statwise 60 HP is average for a Basic, x2 Weakness to :lightning: sucks and does him no favors, no Resistance is common, and :colorless: to Retreat is cheap. Sleep Pulse is horrible for :colorless:, dealing a mere 50/50 chance for Sleep, from which your opponent has over a 50% chance to wake up from before it's your turn again; you are just as well off attaching an Energy to something else that's useful. Surprise Attack is similarly fail at :water::colorless: for a 50% chance at 30 damage :nonono:

Modified - 1/10 (Easily the worst Oshawott option)
Limited - 0/10 (Promo, but even then I'd probably give it 1/10 if it were in the set, only to be used if you had the evo line)
Unlimited - 1/10 (KO bait, shiny coaster material)

Is Oshawott using the "I'm A Man!" punch? Now all we need are ninja-style dancers.:thumb:

Oshawott is a Basic Water Pokemon, opening up some solid support in this (and the next) format. 60 HP seems to be the new common value for Pokemon that can Evolve twice. Lightning Weakness is appropriate, and not too bad just because at 60 HP most Pokemon already OHKO him! The lack of Resistance is disappointing but not really detrimental given how common it is, and the single Energy Retreat cost is pretty much standard but useful on a Basic such as this.

Sleep Pulse is awful. Flipping for Sleep wasn't bad when it was a for a Zero Energy attack, but having to pay and then flip for an effect with a 50% chance of removing itself before the next turn? Even though there is a highly unlikely chance they can remain Asleep for several turns, it just isn't worth it. Surprise attack has you pay :)water::colorless:), which should be good for about 25 points of damage. Pokemon likes to use nice, round numbers so bumping it up to 30 points of damage would be great, except for the effect: flip a coin and on "tails" the attack does nothing! You should be flipping for 50 points of damage for that, even if this card is only a stepping stone to its Evolutions!

If it was ever reprinted in a set, without its Evolutions it'd be fairly desperate filler run only because it needs a single Water Energy to attack.

Ratings

Unlimited: 1/10

Modified (MD-On): 1/10

Modified (HGSS-On): 1/10

Limited: NA, would be 3/10 if reprinted in a set.

Summary

Worst Oshawott for any format, but thankfully as a promo you won't have to use it for Limited play. Now I do like the art, so if you're in this for collecting, it is a pretty promo.
