[gal=52323]2011-09-06 EP Cobalion 077[/gal]

A decent pre-release card, I'll grant you that, but it falls short in the metagame. If only fire wasn't so strong, it'd make a decent goth counter....

Limited: 8/10 (This card is bomb. Run it)
Modified: 4/10 (Big basic, but metal is currently a horrible type to be)

I'm waiting for the Cobaion from Red Collection which has the effet of Beartic for MMC

The fire weakness won't help...

Today's CotD is Cobalion from EP, probably one of the least popular of the 3 musketeers (with Terakion and Viziron likely to see more play). Statwise 110 HP is excellent for a Basic, x2 Weakness to :fire: is meh, -20 Resistance to :psychic: can be helpful, and :colorless::colorless: to Retreat is a bit pricey. Metal Horns is kinda eh, :metal::colorless: for 30 is a bit underpowered, and the forced switch effect may or may not be desirable. Sacred Sword deals a nice 100 for :metal::metal::colorless:, but the fact you can't use it during your next turn really limits it.

Modified - 2/10 (I don't see many reasons to use him, but if you run a :metal: deck he makes a decent attacker)
Limited - 9/10 (If you're running :metal:, run him. If not, binder likely, unless you need a sacrificial wall)
Unlimited - 1/10 (No use here, :metal: is still a poor attacking type)

3/10 fro every one else 8/10 for my special red face paint deck. =P. It is not a bad card but in our current format its not the number one choice, The one from red collection with the same effect as beartics shear cold will see more play.

Cobalion is a metal type nice HP for a basic. It's weakness is harsh for today's metagame, Cobalion can be one shot so well. It's resistance isn't as bad. The retreat isn't so bad either.

It's First attack, Metal Horns, does 30 for a Metal and a Colorless. It's attack not the worse but the effect ruins it. It lets the opponent switch their active Pokemon. That could allow the opponent pull out a full charged Pokemon and KO Cobalion.

It's second attack is an attack that we can compare with Reshiram or Zekrom. Zekrom and Reshiram's attack do 120 damage for 2 Fire and a Colorless, Reshiram, or 2 Electric and a Colorless, Zekrom. Each attack has their own down effect. Zekrom does 40 to him self and Reshiram discards 2 fire. Cobalion's attack, Sacred Sword, is quit similar to Blue Flare or Bolt Strike, Reshiram and Zekrom's attack. But, it's allot worse. Sacred Sword does 100 for 2 Metal and a Colorless, where as Reshiram and Zekrom, for the same amount of energy, do 120. The effect is outrageous, not in the good way. The effect doesn't allow you to use Sacred Sword the next turn. That damage you give isn't worth it! Looking at just the build up, there isn't much help to build up Sacred Sword in a turn or two (Electrode and Klinklang are usable but, there aren't as good as Reshiram and Zekrom build up). And you can't constantly use this attack every turn like Reshiram or Zekrom can.

I rate this:
Modified Legal: 2/10
Collector: 10/10 It's a card of a Legendary, A collector would like this in his collection. (To bad there wasn't a full card design.)
For the Image: 6/10 I like the design. It's a picture of a Cobalion. And it's not like the simple pictures that the other Pokemon have. It's up close, like a Prime sorta.
Prerelease: 7/10 The attack could wipe out almost any Pokemon in the EP set. I used it and it worked wonders for me.

LOL my biggest card of the day post ever :D

this card is nice and all and I could see a few decks based around this card at a league but the problem is it's first attack wont let you control who comes in so it's almost worthless and it's second attack for the same energy does less damage than the dragon's attacks and you can't use it next turn. Also reshiram variates clearly have a huge advantage 4/10 The Red collection one will be much better ^.^
