Good for anything that has trouble retreating. The fact it's a stage 1 and needs 2 or 3 energies to attack, makes it hard to tech in, probably making it need to be a major part of the deck, rather than a tech.

130HP is brilliant for a Stage 1.
Weakness could be worse.
Retreat cost is awful.
First attack is brilliant.
Second attack is usable.

Overall, depending on the deck I'd give it an 8/10.

Probably the best effect text since Gardy SW.

Monster HP for a Stage 1
Weakness is pretty much no Weakness in this format
Even the Basic is no weakling

So . . . why isn't it tearing up the format? Free Retreaters + the insane damage output of a lot of other Pokemon, that's why. It's somehow less than the sum of its parts.

7/10

I can see this guy being the star of his own deck.

130 HP is an amazing amount for a Stage 1. :water: type means it hits Donphan Prime, Typhlosion Prime, and Reshiram for double damage. Weakness to :metal: is also good as there aren't many competitve Pokemon of that type besides Scizor Prime. A Resistance to... nothing. I believe it can manage without it. A Retreat Cost of :colorless::colorless::colorless: is pretty bad; if this guy is targeted by Sludge Drag or Pokemon Catcher before it's powered up, it'll be hard to get it out of harm's way while the opponent forces his will on you.

Now for the attacks. Sheer Cold, Beartic's main selling point, does 50 damage for 1 :water: and 2:colorless:; the Defending Pokemon cannot attack during the next turn. The best thing about this is... no coin flip needed! Great against Pokemon that have trouble retreating. Not to mention this KOs Mew Prime with a Plus Power.

Icicle Crash, the second attack, does 80 damage for 2 :water: and 2 :colorless: energy. This damage isn't affected by Resistance on the Defending Pokemon. It OHKOs Reshiram, Emboar, Donphan Prime, and Typhlosion Prime. Two of these can take out Serperior, and it even OHKOs Jumpluff with a Plus Power. A good followup to Sheer Cold.

One of the best cards in the Emerging Powers set IMO. If you can manage the Retreat Cost (say, Dodrio), then this card can really shine.

I rate this card an 8/10.

I think Beartic is a pretty cool guy. He kills aliens and doesn't afraid of anything.

8/10

Yanmega is likely to discourage this card from seeing much play. However, with Gothitelle seeing so much play it's likely this will be used a counter. It could possibly see play in Mewbox in the future when we get prism energy.

Today's COTD is Beartic (30/98, Emerging Powers). This card received a little hype when it was first announced for the Black & White Collection, but like many other cards, it wasn't in Black & White, instead delayed to Emerging Powers. It has a great 130HP for a Stage 1, a great Weakness :)metal:), but the Retreat Cost balances it out, weighing in at a hefty :colorless::colorless::colorless:.
The first attack is what got this card hyped. Sheer Cold does 50 damage for :water::colorless::colorless:, so as you can guess, this card is hyped for the effect. The effect reads "The Defending Pokemon can't attack during your Opponent's next turn." No flipping coins. If the Defending Pokemon has a high Retreat Cost, this can be absolutely devastating. But, if they retreat, the effect ends, and the Opponent gets to attack. This attack varies, being useless if the Defending Pokemon has a very low Retreat Cost, but a killer if the Defending Pokemon has a high one.
Its second attack, Icicle Spear, does 80 damage and isn't affected by Resistance for :water::water::colorless::colorless:. Just an average attack.

Modified: 7/10. Many cards have small Retreat Costs in this format, but this card can devastate some decks.
Limited: 9/10. In a format where many Pokemon have slower Retreat Costs, this card is amazing.

honestly this is everything you want in a card, it a stage one with 130 hp. Wow...you couldnt even ask for more HP
its first attack is very good an able to abuse DCE, and has good evasion.
its second attack is usable, but ok
and its weakness is one of the best, if not the best right now.

overall i give ther card 10/10.
in this format it see's minimal play and is outclasses by a few other stage ones....but in the near future i see this card as being HUGE.

I love this card its best deck would have to be with blastzel. And I give this a 8.5/10

Today's CotD is Beartic from EP...kinda surprised I didn't even see any being played, considering all they hype (and it is a fairly decent card). Statwise 130 HP is pretty monstrous for a Stage 1 when you consider most hover around 90, x2 Weakness to :metal: is fine (who plays :metal:?), no Resistance is common, and :colorless::colorless::colorless: to Retreat is expensive. Sheer Cold is pretty nifty, :water::colorless::colorless: for 50 is a bit expensive, but the fact it locks your opponent from attacking makes it fairly effective given that most decks might run 2 Switch if that, and many more popular Pokemon have unfavorable Retreat Costs. Icicle Crash is pricey at :water::water::colorless::colorless: for 80 as well, but it OHKOs just about anything weak to :water:, and combined with a use of Sheer Cold first, will deal the magical 130 damage needed to 2HKO most Pokemon.

Modified - 7.5/10 (Surprising this isn't used more, considering the levels of frustration it can induce)
Limited - 9/10 (Great for any :water: deck or ones wanting to fit in :water: for him, monstrous HP with great attacks)
Unlimited - 1/10 (Eh not as good, considering the ways you can Retreat out of it)

8/10 I just got mine RH of this today and i was extremely happy. The ability to lock and cause your
opponent to retreat/switch in order to attack is a neat idea

:water: DCE for the first attack.

1 more :water: for the 2nd attack. You can charge this thing pretty quickly.

This card is Fantastic! It can stop Zekrom decks. 50 and can't attack. Watcha gonna do when you can't Outrage for massive Damage? Even worse news is Beartic against Reshiram, cuz Reshiram's weak to it. 130 HP for a Stage 1 is amazing, 80 and not affected by resistance for 2nd attack is Fantastic! Best partner, if you don't want to use up spots for DCE, is Feraligatr Prime. Even better, if you can use both. Toss in LunaSol to shut off Royal Heal, so that you can destroy Serperior! Toss in Vileplume and your opponent can't use items either! Although, this might be a difficult deck to create.

The only bad thing about this card is it's heavy retreat cost, but that's what Switch is for!

This card is phenomenal! 10/10!

Should play better than it does - our battleroads had many flavors of this deck, but none of them went anywhere. Needs more damage output - rocky helmet may help - until then, it's just a fun deck.
5/10
