This looks like a good card at face value. 1 energy for 30 and get an energy back to it. Given that its also a TANK helps a lot too. Belting this thing can have damaging effects too. 160 HP and 1 for 50 is really good too. I give this card a 8/10 Not good enough to be completely competitive, but not bad enough to be league only lol

First REPLY FTW!!!!

Second maybe? Steelix has a massive 140 Hp as a stage 1. He also has a resistance to psychic. On the other hand, he has a 4 retreat cost and a fire weakness, both of which are negatives. His poke body is pretty helpful, even if special conditions are not dominant right now. Energy stream does 30 and has DCE abuse potential and is just about the only way I can think of to recover special energy, especially special metal, which can help steelix take hits and tank. Gaia Crush does 100 for 5 which sounds like a lot, but with the ability to abuse a DCE and Energy stream's ability to recover and attach energy to steelix, it is relatively cheap. Steelix decks are tier 2 now, but with the SP engine most likely out of the format for next rotation, look for steelix to be a major player.

9/10

This is a really solid deck with only one unbeatable matchup (as far as popular decks go). Put of all the testing I've done for states this year so far, I've probably tested this the most.
Fire weakness and rereat being it's only bad points, this card is so amazing.
I probably will play this for one of the states I make it to, just saying.
I love this card so much.
Probably tier 2 right now, but it's still giong to be a major contender for states if people play it.

8.5/10 he has great hp. goo attacks(a 1 turn energy acc. yay) and has a great body(though in the meta wont help too much). healix is boss if you can get set-up fast enough.

This is a very good card as Primes go.

- 140 HP is beastly for a Stage 1.
- 30 damage for a DCE is rather good considering it also gives you back an energy.
- Gaia Crush does awesomely for a 100 damage attack. No discard is also good.

8.5/10

If you can get a Steelix with 2-3 Special Metal energy on it,it's so hard to take down.

5 energy may seem bad,and it is.But thanks to the first attack,it may only take 2 turns to get all 5 on Steelix.
The Retreat is just bad,but you won't be retreating him anytime soon anyway.
HP is amazing for a stage 1.

Even with the first attack to help speed things up,I can only give Steelix Prime a 7/10 because it is slow and needs proper time to get set up before you can tank.

Where is Regis_Neo and his reviews? I need Regis_Neo nao

Oh and 8/10 because it loses to birds

Steelix is a mighty tank since you can get a massive amount of Special Metal energy on it in a short amount of time. For 1 DCE you can use Energy Stream, which only does 30 damage, however, it lets you recover any energy card from the discard pile. Within two turns, assuming you had the DCE for the first turn, you can literally start using Steelix's second attack Gaia Crush, which deals out 100 damage and discards a stadium. This can be useful just to get rid of the opponent's stadium, or if you don't want the opponent benefiting from your own stadium. You can also combine this with Skuntank G, since you cannot poison yourself. This allows you to 1 Shot SF Gengar to avoid the Fainting Spell. While the weakness to fire is problematic, at least it resists psychic.

Yesterday's CotD was Steelix Prime from UL...well, I'll admit, I still don't really see how this is that good. Statwise, 140 HP is excellent for a Stage 1 (heck that's higher than most Stage 2s), x2 Weakness to :fire: is eh, -20 Resistance to :psychic: is nice, and :colorless::colorless::colorless::colorless: to Retreat is super expensive. Perfect Metal, eh I guess it's better than no Poke-Body at all, Special Conditions aren't a major part of any deck, but it can be randomly useful. Energy Stream is meh at :colorless::colorless: for 30 (yes, I don't believe relying on always getting a DCE onto this guy to make it cheap makes it any better necessarily), but you get to grab an Energy out of your discard to attach to this guy. Gaia Crush is overpriced at 100 for an expensive :metal::metal::colorless::colorless::colorless: with a Stadium discard effect, many Pokemon can attack for much better ratios for just as good damage.

Modified - 6/10 (Well, you can tank with it using Special :metal:, but yeah I've never got how this was good, just seems so slow, I still think whoever placed high with it at Worlds was more lucky than Steelix Prime being good)
Limited - 9/10 (Now here would be a good place to use it, outstanding HP in a relatively accessible Stage 1 body with attacks you have time to build up)
Unlimited - 1/10 (Hi ER, hi SER, plus GoW and every other card that would drain him of any ability to attack)

Have some respect. Eric did so great at worlds because he made a great play with an under rated card that has great match ups with very few very bad ones. In the end he was unlucky not lucky because he played the only Ape4X in top 32.
Steelix is far from slow, try the card out instead of just using theory.

Over all I would say 8/10

So I came here to see what awesome things people were saying about Steelix, then I saw this. :nonono:

Just because you can't see why a card is good doesn't make it a bad card. I could very well point out all the bad things about any popular card right now (Luxray X only does 60 damage, Garchomp X needs 3 energies to do 80, etc.). I'll admit, having to use Energy Stream a couple of times before you can even hit with Gaia Crush seems pretty slow. But that's why Steelix works best in a healing deck - you have to keep the damage off of it until you can start swinging for 120. Once you start hitting for 120 (130 with Skuntank G that can't poison Steelix), you OHKO many cards in the format. Just about the only thing you don't OHKO - aside from random stuff - is Dialga G Lv.X with Special Metal and Expert Belt (Steelix plays either Ruins of Alph or PlusPower to deal with Luxray X).

Consider the card when I played it at Worlds. It had psychic resistance, powerful against many popular cards at the time such as Gardevoir SW, Gengar AR, and Gengar SF. It ran Judge effectively against decks like Luxchomp and Gyarados. Unlike Regigigas X, it was safe from Machamp SF. Unlike Donphan Prime, Crobat G couldn't hurt it. It had high HP basics, meaning that you rarely got donked. I could go on and on...

I spent a great deal of time perfecting my list just before Worlds, going back and forth on almost every card in my deck, so it's kind of insulting for you to just say I got lucky at Worlds to get top 32. As The_Legend stated, I feel I got more unlucky than anything, facing one of two decks out of all of Worlds that had a fire tech in it capable of taking down a Steelix (not counting ERL because of issues people had with playing it; most people didn't even run a fire energy to use Detonation Spin). Just saying...

Edit: Also Regis, just wanted to say that you usually do great reviews for the COTD, so no hate coming from me! But really, where's the love for Steelix, one of the few cards that can actually survive in this messed up format?
