Weavile G was used by many as a starter when PT first came out, but then it died down and many preferred Honchkrow G over this. But now it has risen in popularity with the release of Call of Legends. Why? Let's find out:
Type::dark: (counter to Gengar Prime!)
Weakness::fighting
Not too bad considering Machamp already OHKOs it and Donphan does with an E-Belt)
Resist:
sychic
Amazing!
Retreat:none(Amazing)
Rating for Stats:9/10 (really good!)
Attacks:
For no energy, call for family allows you a call but only for SP. When it was released, people thought it was the perfect starter, but now, most SP decks don't have starters. A pretty good attack overall, but not nice enough to make a deck around. But it is still good if you use him as a tech, 'cause then if you start with him, you have a free call for SP!
Rating:7.5/10 (decent attack, but not nice enough to make a starter. But, if used as tech, free call if started!)
For :dark::colorless::colorless:, team attack does 10+10 for each SP you have in play (at least 20 because Weavile G is an SP). Combos with first attack, but at first glance, this looks really steep. 3 for 70 and no room for Uxies or other non-SP techs? But at a second glance, there are three things that make it better:
1. OHKO Gengar Prime/lv.x. This is why most people are including it in their SP builds to counter Gengar. But still, to OHKO you need no non-SP pokes on bench and 5 SP pokes on bench, plus three energy. Is there any way to speed it up and increase damage?
2. DCE! To speed it up, you can use DCE, which is used in almost all SP builds b/c of Garchomp C X, so it requires no extra space.
3. Special Dark can increase damage, making you still be able to OHKO Gengar with 1 bench space free for uxies, azelfs, and any other non-SP tech.
3 1/2. Expert Belt can be used to free up 2 spaces on bench, and allows you to use the searchable basic dark. The only problem is that if they use their promocroak (a common tech against dark types in Lostgar) to KO you back, you just lost 2 prizes.
Rating:8/10 (OHKO's Gengar for 2 energy, but still a little harsh, with 1 (2 if E-Belt is used) free space(s) and 2 unsearchable energies (1 if E-Belt is used), but a nice counter for an SP build.)
Conclusion: Weavile G is an amazing counter to gengar in SP builds and boasts a nice first attack if you happen to start with him, as well as some amazing stats, but suffers from being limited to only SP decks, being hard to set up, and limmiting bench space)
Overall Rating: 8/10
Decks to use him in: All SP varients, as long as Lostgar remains strong
Combos: Speacial Dark, DCE, Expert Belt, SP pokemon
P.S. If Lostgar wasn't in format, stats rating would drop down to 7, attack #1 down to 6, attack #2 down to 4, and overall down to 6
