2011 Rotation

You don't have to wait for the rotation to answer that: Salamence is bad right now. In fact, it's never been much good.

In a PT-on or RR-on format without Uxie for speed or even the SF Salamence for half-decent attacks? Utterly horrible, I'm afraid.

I for one cannot wait to see SP being rotated. I definetly dont see it being PL- on because without Gengar, Gyarados and Machamp, Sp will just dominate even more.

I am hoping for an AR-on or HGSS-on, this way the format become a lot more exciting.

For those of you who say SP is hard to play, I disagree. The SP engine basically runs itself and before you say I have no experience playing with SP, I have played with Luxchomp and Dialgachomp. However I am not saying stage 1 and 2 decks are hard to play either because they are not.

I think it's going to be SV-On if it's not HGSS-On(Which I am hoping for). The SP left are still relevent, being Cynthia and the FB's, both of whom are in the HGSS games, it removes the problematic SPs and gives a good 9 sets after Nationals.

After reading the first 6 pages of this thread, here's my 2 cents:

-PL-on is what I'm hoping for even though the likelihood of this rotation being the right one is very very very slim.
-RR-on will be losing some good cards from PL (good-bye Dialga G Lv. X and Beautifly), but it isn't horrible.
-SV-on will eliminate Luxray GL/Lv X as well most of the good SP roots.
-Ar-on leaves us with a bunch of Arceus decks. I never used this set a lot so I don't have many comments.
-HS-on is probably the one rotation that makes the most sense. I haven't read the new BW rules since I've been sorta floating out of TCG so I don't know how this rotation will effect this. However, I do know that this rotation will be favorable for a "healthy game environment" and it will be the easiest rotation to teach newbies (other than the concept of Legends...).

Overall, I am definitely going to miss Sableye SF nonetheless...

where can i find the new BW rules? and last question is when is this rotate gonna happen it thought it was this upcoming may? so like 2-3 months but someone said like 200+ days? or is this post that old? lol

AR-on would be fine I guess. Keeping Tomb would be great. Not so sure I want Expert Belt to stay

@Almighty & Dosle: Usually sets are rotated at the end of a season, after Worlds. However, there have been rumors of a mid-season rotation. IF those rumors were true, we have no idea when it would happen.

The format NEEDS to be HGSS-on. If Spiritomb is allowed to stay, that will only cause the format to become just as unbearable as this format. Spiritomb would allow for trainer lock decks to simply set up, and trainers could not be played whatsoever. Because of that, trainer cards, which we'll be relying on quite a bit, will no doubt become useless as a result. Cards such as Gothitelle, and Vileplume, would hurt the format tremendously considering Spiritomb would be around, and, tbh, I don't know which one would be worse as a whole. I'd imagine Gothitelle, but, I have no honest idea.

It will be HGSS-on. Any other rotation would be bad and stupid

I half expect an announcement, now that states have completed, within the next week or so if there's going to be a mid season rotation. I would think if something like that were going to happen, P!P would have put off saying anything until then so as to not distract players from their States strategies while still allowing plenty of time for players to adapt to a new format before the set hits the shelves.

If there is to be a cut pre-Worlds, it would only make sense for it to be HGSS on as the Black and White rules don't acknowledge (or at least cover the interactions with) LV.X cards. Plus it would be in line with the Japanese OP. Leaving any set released before Gold & Silver would be pointless i.m.o.

I wood like them to do something that alot of people wouldnt expect I want them to do a HS and on format it would be nice to see everyone going rogue for a while and not having to battle people with the same deck round after round.

Did you just recently start playing competitively? This has been the way of Pokemon since competitive play started. There is always a top deck which is widely known and played. It's been this way since the very first competitive play tournaments when only Base and Jungle sets were the only two sets which existed in English- Haymaker or Do the Wave.

This is an aspect of the game you are going to have to learn to adapt to. Being as such you have two choices. Meta decks which are proven to run smooth and consistent. This is the best choice for a new player because you learn the mechanics of a good deck.

Playing a rogue deck, and reasonably expecting to do well with it, is only something which can be done when you fully understand the mechanics of the Meta decks. And if you've never played with the Meta decks you can't reasonably expect to do well with a deck of your own creation because you don't know all the tricks the Meta deck has up it's sleeves.

For now, you should probably just go with the flow and learn what makes a good deck good by learning how the all different cards work together or get you out of a tight spot.

After de-briefing myself on the new Black and White cards soon to be released, I have pretty much come to the conclusion that the format will either be AR-on, or even more likely HG-SS on.

compared to B&W - HG/SS cards look completely amazing. Which is funny to me because many think that HG/SS pale heavily in comparison to those in D/P and Platinum (they do).

the format is definitely putting on the brakes. I doubt this will be marginalized by having sp remnants still alive. AR on will all but destroy SP, but retain some nice T/S cards like expert belt, lucky egg, etc. AR on will also let arceus decks have a possibility of being quite successful, and it also lets tangrowth decks still exist with Tangrowth LVL X. Water and soon to be fire now have energy accelerators, should not grass have this general option in the format also?

I'm ready to see donphan prime/machamp prime and yanmega/umbreon decks being top tier in the future.

HG/SS is to B&W as basically all of DP/PL was to HG/SS in regards to good cards.

Some rather vague answers to reasonable questions have compelled me to come out of lurkerdom.

The format has, historically, changed on September 1st each year.

Worlds takes place in August, and uses all the sets that were legal since September 1st (or have been released during the previous 11 months).

The announcement on the next format historically occurs in early June.

This is an official announcement on the official site. The timing of this has been very consistent in recent years.

It seems this year that whatever P!P do, they cannot please everyone. Bear that in mind when discussing (and when the announcement comes!), as many threads have come and gone on this topic because they became heated/asinine/pointless.

And, if you dislike Standard/Meta/Archetypal decks; stay away from rated tournaments (anything called Championship is best avoided) find yourself a smaller league, or possibly one that isn't in a shop, or play amongst friends. All enjoyable ways to play =)

Or learn to play, in normal formats there are so many amazign rogue decks :D
Just dont try something that doesnt work and stick to it and call it rogue as an excuse for it being bad. You can build sucessful rogues and its the most rewarding thing in the world to have sucess with one :)

Its just that in our current format I dont see it working...
