Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

2011 VGC info updated!

Because they don't want Ubers to overrun like last year.

Most of the things you mentioned in the list are terrible. Cobalion? Tornadus? Never use them.

Tornadus is a beast idk what you're talking about.
Cobalion I can agree with, however.

quote for truth - Welcome to Acrobatics + Flight Gem + STAB = DEATH
Not to mention the whole Prankster w/tailwind, substitute, and taunt.

He's also good in rain dance spamming 100% accuracy hurricane with flying gem.

Sorry for being obvious here but...

Thundurus?

On its own, Tornadus isn't that bad. Thundurus just does what it can do better.

Thunderus learns neither Tailwind nor Acrobatics, which is all Tornadus does. Other than being both genies, they aren't that comparable.

Thundurus doesn't have Tailwind and Hurricane.

btw, good thing to know the dates and locations. I personally like them, enough time to build a team after TCG Nationals are over here. The only thing I don't understand is why Top 2 get everyhing (medal, DSi, trip) and 3rd and 4th get nothing but the invite. =(

Okay, I know I'm going to start sounding like a broken record here......

UK, France, Germany, Italy & Spain get invited to the party....where is Mexico and Canada?

Well since I'd be banned within a minute for posting my thoughts as I did on other forums, here's a more PG-friendly version...

PUI (or whatever division runs the VGC), YOU FREAKING SUCK!

And I'll leave it at that...very disappointed they not only dropped the number of Regionals, but also took out one of the ones with better attendance.

You-tube Sky Drop/ Gravity glitch.

If you use Gravity while your other pokemon has one of them in Sky Drop, it brings them both back to the field, but the opponents Pokemon that was being Sky Dropped is immobile for the rest of the match. Can't attack, can't switch. So it's pretty much one on two.

It's nice to see the east and west coasts represented, but everyone in the middle of the US pretty much got shafted with regional locations. I'm surprised there are so few this year.

On a positive note, I really like the Gen 5/no ubers policy. It'll be nice to see more diverse teams and now that Explosion was nerfed (YAY!) we'll hopefully see varied movepools too.

You can't use Kyurem, Victini, Reshiram, Zekrom,

Again, Reshiram and Zekrom being banned is like Oh-ho and Lugia being banned.

Where do you get these ideas??? I looked at the Restricted Pokemon area and there was nothing posted there about what legendary Pokemon were banned!!!!! (I agree with the Pokemon that did not come out yet being banned)

Liesik runs the entire VG area. I think this is what you're looking for...

It looks like that piece is missing from the US English site, but it appears on all of the other versions of the site (UK English, French, Italian, Spanish and German).

Players may use Pokémon found in the Pokémon Black Version or Pokémon White Version Unova Pokédex, from No. 001—148, and No. 151, that are caught in the game, or received by an official event or distribution. Pokémon from the Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, or Sinnoh Pokédex cannot be used.

I'm working on getting them to add the missing text.

And I'll leave it at that...very disappointed they not only dropped the number of Regionals, but also took out one of the ones with better attendance.

There were 6 Regionals last year (Seattle, San Francisco, Phoenix, Dallas, Atlanta and Newark).
There are 6 Regionals this year (Seattle, San Jose, Dallas, Atlanta, D.C., Newark).
Please tell me how 6 is less than 6.

Allow me to show you the attendance numbers from last year and I'll let you figure out just how good the attendance in Phoenix was:

Seattle - 647 total
San Francisco - 694 total
Phoenix - 585 total
Dallas - 945 total
Atlanta - 929 total
Newark - 1,551 total

I'm pretty sure I made the right call in moving that event to D.C., based on the east coast attendance numbers.

I did have a National Championships planned for this Canada year. I was even talking to Marvin about tying it to TCG Nationals. However, I was way over budget and had to choose between having Canadian Nationals or adding a third age division. I felt having a three division system was more important to the long term health of the program than having a Canadian Nationals this year would be. I still have a strong desire to have events in Canada, Australia and other places. I just need to get to a point where I can make the existing events more cost-effective so that I can make that happen.

Thanks for the post, Mike! It's always fantastic to hear from anybody over at TPCi on these (or any) public boards, and this post really helps us see what planning these events takes. So please, don't take this post as anything other than a suggestion to help improve the events and please as many players as possible.

I think that part of the frustration from the Midwest folks is that the LCQ has no other prizes than an invite into Nationals. If there were prizes similar to the Regionals events (even exchanging the flight/hotel for a travel stipend at Indy), it would probably placate those from the area that would like to participate. Basically, there's this giant loop around the country, and a pretty gaping hole in the center. Yes, I know that Nationals itself has prizes. But the Midwest players essentially have to make their way through TWO tournaments in order to get ANY prize, while those along the coasts and southern borders can prize out through only a single tournament. You could also state that, if you participate in the LCQ, you forfeit your Invite into Nationals in order to ensure that players don't try and double-dip the tournaments.

I'm just trying to throw out a suggestion that would help with at least some of the complaints on this thread.
