This card is better off used late game. Even though the deck will be thinner by that time you need some search to pull out whatever it is that you got out of the discard pile. Since it is not a supporter after you shuffle in the desired cards you can use one of the many supporter search cards to get the cards you wanted. Alternatively if you are getting energy back I would suggest using fisherman instead since it is a lot faster. It is a supporter but it gives you 4 energy to your hand instead of back into your deck.

Modified- 7/10 This is one of the best cards for this in the format
Unlimited- 5/10 While it is good I would prefer one of the many search cards that are available.

Too bad there wasn't a new year's CotD to make my 600th post on the Pokegym commemorative. I guess I might as well make this CotD post such a case, as well as a commemoration of my 2nd year anniversary on the Pokegym.

Super Rod is a reprint of a card named Night Maintenance. Back in the day, Night Maintenance allowed you to search your discard pile for 3 in any combination of Pokemon and basic energies, and the 3 cards are shuffled back into the deck. Being a trainer, it made it an amazing recovery option, and it became a staple in all decks. Super Rod does the exact same thing. Being a trainer, it works wonders, especially when played with Junk Arm. Right now, I would have to say that aside from Revive, Super Rod is easily the best recovery card in the entire game right now.

Overall 9/10 in modified, 10/10 in limited, and 10/10 in unlimited

In modified, this card is very good. Being a trainer recovery card that can grab 3 of any combination of Pokemon or energies, it is easily an excellent recovery card, perhaps the best in the game right now, surpassing Flower Shop Lady and Revive. With Junk Arm, it can easily be reused. Here, the card's only problem is trainer lock, where the card cannot be played against cards like Vileplume or Gothitelle. Regardless, it is a basic staple card that almost every deck uses at least one of this.

In limited, with no form of trainer lock, it is easily an amazing card. Being the only recovery card in the entire NV set is also beneficial for it. If you pull this card out in a limited tournament, you definitely want to run it.

In unlimited, this card is still as amazing as ever, mainly because it is a reprint of Night Maintenance. Having the legacy of Night Maintenance, it can be added in almost any deck. Holon Farmer might give it a little competition, but in the end, since trainers can be easily abused, Super Rod stands out along with its older brother Night Maintenance.

Almost missed this...today's CotD is Super Rod from NV, a useful enough Trainer. It's essentially Night Maintenance with a different name, and its effect is still just as valuable, shuffling back 3 of your choice in Pokemon and basic Energy into your deck. This is extremely useful in recovering lost evolution lines and such, allowing you to recover for another strike back.

Modified - 10/10 (You must have a good reason not to run at least 1-2, its recovery effect is that potent)
Limited - 10/10 (Really no reason not to use it given you could lose something valuable early on, and multiple copies of cards are scarce here)
Unlimited - 8/10 (Still great for recovery)

Originally posted, less some minor edits, as my CotD for Super Rod on Pojo.

How fascinating, the powers that be are once again playing with the minds of long time players by re-releasing a Trainer with a completely altered effect! Super Rod once was a “normal” Trainer that required you flip a coin to use. If the results were “heads”, you added an Evolution to your hand, and if it was “tails” you added a Basic Pokémon to your hand instead. That effect would have been better now than it was back in the day due to the specifics of our metagame versus back then. Mainly we have Basic Pokémon that are incredibly attackers and the draw/search power to make getting what you recycled back into hand a lot easier. The old version dated back to Neo Genesis, after all.

Guess what Super Rod does now? That’s right; now Super Rod has the old effect of Nightly Garbage Run and Night Maintenance, but enjoying Item status. Only half a Flower Shop Lady, but you keep your Supporter for the turn… and I like that. Running a key combination of three Basic Pokémon (say Zekrom, Pachirisu, and Shaymin?) you can Super Rod them back into your deck then drop a Pokémon Collector to bring them right back to hand. It isn’t as fast retrieving specific Evolutions or Energy, but you still can draw for them. You can even Junk Arm for it is you desperately need to spam recursion, or if you had to dump a lot of Pokémon and Energy early game for various costs.

In Unlimited, Supporters aren’t as important for draw power so using one for recursion isn’t a big deal, thus Flower Shop Lady or Town Volunteers might be a better choice. Even if they are not, Unlimited players never lost Nightly Garbage Run or Night Maintenance.

In Limited, Trainers are almost always extra useful since they are scarce, and using this to recycle some desperately needed Pokémon or Energy, especially if it was something potent or that you couldn’t run a lot of, is magnificent.

Ratings

Unlimited: 6.5/10

Modified:
8.5/10

Limited: 10/10

Summary
So in Modified, you’ll see this. Probably not everywhere, since Item-denial decks will shut it off but not touch Flower Shop Lady, but I can think of a lot of decks that want to use their Supporters elsewhere. In Unlimited, it isn't really better or worse than other options, and in Limited it is almost as valuable as a draw or search card, but due to the nature of rating cards it still gets a perfect score.

This is a great card for just about any deck that isn't running trainer lock (ie Vileplume and Gothitelle currently). It allows you to re-use your basic attackers after they've been knocked out, via a Super Rod + Collector combination. You can also shuffle in energy, which many decks will enjoy. It allows you to recover from a bad start. Did you draw poorly from some Sage's and had to discard some key Pokémon? No problem, you'll get em back eventually!

It's just a great card and I would suggest every deck to run at least 1 copy of this card. Unless, of course, you run trainer lock in which case you'd want the good ol' Flower Shop Lady to help you recover your Pokémon.

Now we already have a card with the same effect - Flower Shop Lady (it should be noted that FSL allows you to shuffle in 6 cards instead of 3), but the difference between the two cards is that Super Rod is a trainer - FSL is not. It being a trainer allows you to junk arm for it, so you can discard it early through Sage's Training and then get it back. You can also get basic Pokémon from your discard pile to your bench instantly using the Super Rod + Collector combination I already mentioned.

So, it's time for a rating of the card in the modified format.

Modified 8/10 - It hasn't impacted the game in the same way Catcher has for example, but it's a nifty one-off copy to have in just about any deck.

Just a quick thought, pending a ruling I may not be aware of, but night maintenance says "choose UP TO 3..." So does super go by that as well now or is maintenance still the better card?
