Ooh is this guy fun to play around with. Today's CotD is Cryogonal #33 from NV. For a basic he's got 80 HP (decent), Metal Weakness (Decent), No Resistance (Expected), and 1 Retreat (decent). The reason you'll be using this guy is because of his first attack, Ice Chain. For :water: This let's you pull up support pokemon like vileplume or bulky pokemon like emboar, in an attempt to stall or set-up. Its second attack, Frost Vanish, does 40 damage for :water: :water:, and let's you super scoop up cryogonal. Is it amazing? No, but it can be somewhat useful to avoid a KO or to conserve your water energy. I think this card is a fun, useful, all purpose card that can be easily fit into any :water: deck, 5/10

Combining the HP of Carnivine TM with the retreat of Bellsprout, Cryogonal is one of the best Pokemon out there to grab stuff off of your opponent's bench. This is especially useful both against and in trainer lock decks. However, the catch is that Ice Chain takes a colored energy. So, some decks may have to stick with Bellsprout, though the low HP always makes it a liability for a donk. For water decks and decks running Rainbow (and perhaps the upcoming Prism energy), this is a very good choice. There's still Carnivine, but no one really likes to deal with its 2 retreat cost unless they're playing something to get around it. Finally, there's still decks like Mew which have Muk, so, Cryogonal's uses are actually kinda limited. However, it's great at what it does. Frost Vanish is alright I guess, better than nothing!

Today's CotD is Cryogonal from NV...well a very interesting Pokemon to look at from a visual standpoint for sure (shame they didn't give it the Spindia treatment, you know the saying "no two snowflakes are alike?"). Anyways, statwise 80 HP is nice for a Basic, x2 Weakness to :metal: is eh, no Resistance is common, and :colorless: to Retreat is cheap. Ice Chain acts as GoW/Catcher for :water:, but that being said, no reason to waste an attack for it when you can just use Catcher most of the time. Frost Vanish is ok, :water::water: for 40 is moderate and it gives you the option of scooping up Cryogonal back to your hand, likely to prevent it from getting KOed. So eh...it's kinda cool in ways, but its usefulness is limited.

Modified - 3/10 - It's not that bad of a card, but it just doesn't have that much use in a format with Catcher, unlike say last season with Roserade GL techs

Limited - 9/10 - I'd take it for any :water: deck, Ice Chain allows you to mess with your opponent's Pokemon and Frost Vanish can save you prizes by returning a weakened one to your hand

Unlimited - 1/10 - Not much use here besides being an easy KO

I find it to be ann underrated card, it's a lot of fun with Vileplume, it's certainly not the best card in the set or the format but as stated previously it's a good stall card and Frost Vanish is a nice attack.
