Being a Stage 2 really hurts right now... yes some still see play but it is a hurdle to overcome instead of simply a state of being. Still Blaziken brings solid stats and attacks to the table. What caught my eye is Flamethrower; three Energy and a single discard hitting hard enough to OHKO an Unova dragon that isn't protected, and pretty easily 2HKO any Pokemon EX.

Stage 2 makes it almost usless.
If it was Basic, see ya Reshiram.

I'll give this card a 6/10.

Honestly, these stats on a Stage 1 would make it playable. But being a Stage 2 means it has to sit in the "just for fun" box.

4/10: Modified
6/10: Unlimited

It's better than some of the other Stage 2's out there right now... still, its just plain impossible to get it out there quickly (although, Rare Candy exists).

Tier 5: Decent.

(6/10)

This is a good example of how just the existence of EXes makes an otherwise solid card unplayable. With his first attack you really can't go wrong and his second attack hits for the magic 130 and discards less energy than Reshiram does. But just right now in our current format where speed and huge hitting basics are the norm, he just can't compete.

Maybe in a future format he'll be good, but for right now Blaziken just can't keep up :/

Today's CotD is Blaziken from DE...well it could've been ok in other formats, but not this. Statwise 140 HP is pretty much becoming the new average for Stage 2s, x2 Weakness to :water: is eh, no Resistance is common, and :colorless::colorless: to Retreat is a bit pricey. Blaze Kick is ok I suppose, :fire::colorless: for 40 alone is nothing to write home about, but it tries offering more with a 50/50 chance at 30 more damage or Burn (which is then a continuous flip inbetween turns for 30). Flamethrower deals a very nice 130 for :fire::fire::colorless: for the cost of discarding a :fire:, but the fact is that as a Stage 2, it's too slow to set up compared to something like Reshiram, which is a Basic, deals 10 less damage with its nuke and has 10 less HP, and is much easier obviously to run support Pokemon with like Emboar and Typhlosion. So yeah, again in another format, you probably could make a semi-ok deck with him and Typhlosion or Emboar (even with speed issues), but the quickness of giant Basics and EXs just overwhelm the startup and support this deck would need.

Modified - 2/10 - Normally an ok-good Stage 2, in this format it's pretty much junk right now

Limited - 8/10 - Tricky part as always is getting it out, but it's a very solid Pokemon here with great attack options

Unlimited - 1/10 - Useless, doesn't offer any powerful Ability and its attacks relegate it pretty much to beatstick status
