Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

5/9 Seattle WA VGC report

So I first heard about the VGC about a month before the WA tournament, and, since there was basically a lull in the TCG for the next month, began doing a little research into comptitive breeding/battling. I never actually got quite into breeding for myself, but was able to scramble together some pokemon for a couple different teams. I wasn't able to finish my Trick Room team by the big day, so i went with my Explosion team.

Wyatt and Amelia show up, even though they weren't going to play. They went just for the sake of going, and to annoy people. But I'll be nice and say they went for the moral support. *cough*
There was a little over 220 people, so it was only about a 50% chance of getting in. =\
I made it, but Zane, and another cool guy I met at the place did not. =(

On to the reportzorz. (first time making a report for the video game, so hopefully it won't be too bad...)
Plus my mind is a little hazy about remembering the turn by turn status of the games. =\

I step into the green area, and wish good luck to my round one opponent. (who of course I can't remember the name of =\)

Round 1:
I lead with Gengar and Azelf. She with Vaporeon and Skitty. I protect on Azelf I think? And do something random with gengar. My prediction pays off as she wastes her protect on Vaporeon, but I can't remember what Skitty did. If anything >.>. Next turn Azelf goes Kablooie as gengar protects and puts Vaporeon to about a quarter health I think? and kills skitty.
She sends out umbreon, and me Smeargle. Endure on Smeargle and explode Gengar this time. vaporeon dies, and Umbreon is down to a little below half health, then sitrus berry activates putting it to about 60-70%? I replace Gengar with Kangaskhan, and she uses Raichu. I Fake Out it with kangaskhan, and spore the Umbreon with my now activated Salac Berry. Next turn I spore Raichu, and Return it or something for the KO. Final turn i just use Hammer Arm or Return on Umbreon for game.
GG

Round 2: Chris S.
=0 Someone I know from the TCG. The judge realizes we know eachother, and asks if we want to wait a bit for different opponents. I didn't really care, so i offered the descision to Chris, who decides to just battle me over waiting for someone else.

He leads with something and Electivire? Or something like that. I use double protect I believe, and the next turn Explode Azelf to kill one of his starters and leave the other standing with focus sash. Who gengar then kills with Shadow Ball. He replaces them both with a Zapdos and Quagsire. I replace Azelf with my smeargle. I endure and, fearing damp, energy ball his Quagsire for a one-hit. He responds with a hit to Gengar to from Zapdos to knock it out.
Now I send out Kangaskhan, and fake out/spore zapdos, Lum Berry activates on the Zapdos I put to sleep, and he kills Smeargle. =( It's now 1v1 pray I win the speed war. I feel elated when my kangaskhan goes first, doing about half health to his zapdos, and he does a little less then that to me. I return again for nearly the KO, and he doesn't quite KO kangaskhan. I then sucker punch ftw.
^ I thought I remember a focus band activating sometime this game, but can't remember it that well. =( For all I know the above game could be completely different from what actually happened. >.>
GG.

Round 3: Can't remember >.>
He leads with ninjask and something else which eludes my mind atm. I lead with my regular Azelf and Gengar, and double protect again. He protects with the uknown pokemon and does a useless X-scissor with ninjask. Ninjask's speed raises, and come next turn when I explode it goes faster then Azelf. Luckily it hits Azelf over gengar, and I live with focus sash. I explode and kill both his pokemon after Gengar ridding his ninjask of it's remaining 1 HP. Obviously, because it's me, and it's 1 AM atm, I can't remember what he replaces with. This game is the most unclear of all. I know me Gengar gets hit with Hypnosis and I have to improvise. My smeargle uses Endure at some point and gets his Salac boost though, and I proceed to Spre/Sweep with Kangaskhan.

So we have about a 2 hour wait until the finals. I go to the food court with mah mob and attempt to eat this gigantic plate of spaghetti. I finish about half of it before being unable to continue, and no one else wanted it. I felt kinda bad throwing so much of it away. =[

Finals Top 16: Dannie
So I had a TR relicanth sitting in the rosters on my team, just in case I got to see the opponents team. And I would replace kangaskhan with Relicanth if I saw Trick Room. But this wasn't the case, so I did the stupid thing of keeping kangaskhan in for the game. QQ
=O A game I actually remember. (On account of it being on my Vs. Recorder...)

Anyway, he leads with Shuckle and Bronzong. I predict the power trick and trick room, so try to put my efforts into killing bronzong t1. I didn't explode just incase he used protect that turn. =[ So his Occa berry reduces Azelf's flamethrower, and after Gengar's Shadow Ball it's still left with a tiny sliver of HP. He sets up TR and Power Trick. I protect Gengar, and he uses Rock Slide/Gyro ball to kill Azelf. I send out Smeargle who uses Sucker Punch to one-hit Shuckle. Hypnosis from bronzong puts Smeargle to sleep before I KO it with Gengar. He replaces both pokemon with Hippowdon and Marowak. He uses Ice Fang/Rock slide to KO gengar and nearly KO Smeargle. I send out Kangaskhan, and he Ice Fang's Smeargle for the KO, while using Bonemerang on Kangaskhan for a little less then half his HP with each hit. Kangaskhan uses Hammer Arm for a wee bit of damage on Marowak, and then Kangaskhan dies from Sand Storm at the end of the turn.

Soooo I still made it to T16 at my first Video Game event, which is a lot better then I thought I would do. I liked the strategy of double battles and the video game, even if the TCG seems less random and luck based. So I'm looking foward to what PUSA does next year. I hear they're trying to make more local-based Video Game events.

Props to anyone who had the patience to read this. =o
And good luck to anyone who attends more of these things.

Congratz on making it to top 16.

Would have liked more play-by-play, but not bad for a 1st time report.
Yeah, sorry about the hazyness. I didn't think I would try writing one of these, so I forgot most of the details. >.>

But thanks for the congrats. =D

"Next turn I Azelf goes Kablooie as gengar protects"

lol, wut. nice report man and gratz on top 16

^ Lol. Thanks for catching that. It was 1 AM when I wrote it and I was too lazy to proofread. =P

And thanks for the gratz. =]

Gratz. on top sixteen, despite my not understanding this stuff. We were totally there for the moral support. ;)

Congrats on making the Top 16 and putting up a great fight against the person who would go on to win the Senior Division. You said you saved a video of your top 16 battle. Would it be possible to get the video ID of it?
