5th Place OK States (Undefeated in Swiss)

Oklahoma State Championships, 6 rounds, Top 8, Gyarados

Alright, we get there as registration starts and I can't choose between LuxChomp and Gyarados. I have some friends look through both of them and general consensus is gyarados. Hutch, Thomas, and I decide to run similar gyarados lists. I have personalized mine a bit over time, and Hutch has adapted my list and played same thing, save 1 card difference.

Round 1: Dana L - Garchomp S2 (0-0)
Not really a match. I run through his minimal setup and OHKO a belted garchomp to seal the deal after I reversal it up.

1-0

Round 2: PokeDad - Magnezone/Tomb (Hit and Run)(1-0)
He starts with tomb to my sableye. It takes me a few turns to fully get gyarados running, but his energy attachments are a bit behind and my Regice/reversals prove to be too much. Mid game he dropped dusknoir DP and shuffled in my claydol (full bench on my side). I pulled it active next turn and KO'd it then proceeded to sweep.

2-0

Round 3: Macon - LuxChomp(2-0)
He starts off with a decent start, but mine is better. I take two prizes with sableye/bats first two turns, KO'ing a luxray GL and something else. All the while I setup my gyarados and begin clearing his field anytime a threat hits his bench thanks to my gusting.

3-0

Round 4: Matt F. - Charizard/Typhlosion (3-0)
He was undefeated until this round. We both know how it's going to end and play out about 3 turns before he scoops.

4-0

Round 5: Will B. - LuxChomp (4-0)
He takes 3 prizes by turn 5 to my 0, while I have no gyarados, claydol, regice, or BTS on the field. I start hitting crucial gusts and nail some huge OHKO's on lux's and chomps while landing a couple heads on SSU to save my pokes. I bring it back to 1-1 prizes and he makes a last ditch effort to stall my g'dos with his skuntank, but I had warp point in my hand for 6+ turns in case he bright looked up something and slapped it. Best game of the day.

5-0

Round 6: Andy M. - LuxChomp (5-0)
He starts with Baltoy. I start with sableye and SP dark!

6-0

Top 8: Will B. - LuxChomp (4th LuxChomp, ugh)
Game 1: Sableye start, collector for good stuff. He DCE/Belt/bat/Bites me for the donk.
Game 2: Lone Magikarp start going second. T1 I get out gyarados; he levels up his next turn, drops lake boundary, crobat, energy, flash impact for game.

6-1 and donked out of top cut! I take 5th place and plenty of points. Disappointed in not leaving with glass, but satisfied with X-Oing swiss.

Pro:
6-0 into top cut
If I was going to lose in top cut, I wanted it to be to Will.
Doing this well with Gyarados vs a field of LuxChomp.

Not Pro:
Being Sick
Getting Donked

Congrats, sorry about you losing in T8. I went 6-0 in swiss, then won in T16 and lost in T8 as well. :frown:

Drew

Congrats Austin on undefeated swiss record! Sorry about getting donked during top 8.
Just curious how many special darks did you play?

Most importantly of all, are you going to Texas States next weekend?

I was sick this weekend and did not feel okay to drive 3 hours to play in Oklahoma.

Congrats Austin! I think running LuxChomp wouldve been a more viable play because you couldve easily tested against the mirror, rather than Gyarados. Nonetheless, great job man! Sucks that you had to lose in Top 8 though...

Hope to see you at Texas States! :)

@ Drew

What did you play?

@ Rage

Enough to do a lot of damage with Sableye in the gengar matchups ;) The more Gengars i can KO with sableye and let a feinting spell hit them, the better.

@ PkmnMaster

I hadn't tested LuxChomp enough to feel comfortable, really. I play BLG a lot, and had converted it back over to LC the night before and just didn't want to risk it. Gyarados is something I've tested extensively and put a LOT of work into. I'll probably be busting out the SD for week 2 in TX

@ Zak

I got TONS of points, lol. If I keep it up I'll have my invite. Will was destined to beat me, man. I've beaten him EVERY time this season, so I was due for a loss. However, I'm glad it was by something not controled by skill, lol. I didn't get more than one turn each game!

Good job Austin. Hopefully I'll do better in Texas so we can actually play a game for once...

But seriously Austin, could we please tone it down with the arrogance? I honestly didn't hear you say one thing at this tournament that wasn't degrading someone for their skill at this game. It gets old fast (it's been old since the beginning of the season) and even this tourney report and following posts reek of your inflated sense of accomplishment. It's fine to be arrogant -- I know I am too -- but you seriously need to learn when to cut it back and act with class.

Did you get mad at basically getting donked out of the top 8? (even a little...)
I would have left in a slightly bad mood if I did not get to play a real competitive game that lasted more than a few turns during elimination round.

See you next week.

Are you coming in early?

Nah! I actually shook Will's hand two separate times after he donked me and wished him luck to win the whole thing. I like playing Will, he's always a strong match and really is a good match nearly every time.

Going undefeated in swiss was good enough. Yeah, I wanted some glass, but knew I was due for LuxChomp to get me soon.

1. My becoming standoffish for being upset with the day's events doesn't mean I don't have class. I win with grace and I NEVER try and personally degrade someone, regardless of how good of a person they are or how good they happen to be at this game. Being upset with a loss =/= not acting classy. I'm surprised you don't know the difference. Telling people that they're bad at the game to their face is not classy. Degrading people for their deck choices is not classy. Throwing your friends under a bus for a game is not classy. You have done all those things and more. Look around at your posts. The ones in this thread, Alex2k's thread, etc. all prove to me more and more how arrogant and classless you really are.
2. Even if you think I'm not a classy person... I didn't know that there can only be one classless person at a tournament. You, Austin, exemplify classlessness, regardless of whether or not I do also.

Oh, and nice posts on Alex2k's thread. I slightly remember you making similar complaints after another Norman tournament this year. Calling me hypocritical? Look again.

I'm disappointed in you. I thought you could be a welcome member into Oklahoma Pokemon, but instead you rushed in with your arrogance and classlessness and tore things apart. Tournaments aren't fun to go to when my choices are losing or winning and getting degraded by you.

Wow guys! What's up with all the smack talk?

Whicker-I know Austin from tournaments, and he ISN'T the type of person you take him for. Austin has a right to be frustrated. Key word=frustrated. He plays games with honor, and I haven't seen anything negative from him.

You guys BOTH should just keep all this dispute off of a thread regarding Austin's success. It's pointless to show it to the public. Keep it in PMs or something... please. :)

And you were blaming your missing top cut on tiebreaker, tournament structure, etc. I said similar. I didn't say you made the same complaints. If you wanted to top cut Norman CC you should have won your games. End of story. It's the same thing you said to Alex2k.
After top 8 you went straight up to Will and told him he's bad. You've told me that I'm bad. Whether or not you say the words "hey, you're bad at this game" doesn't matter. I don't care what you think about my or anyone else's skill at this game -- you should not say it to people's faces.
Sensitive? I'm far from it. Sorry I don't like you insulting my skill level. If I'm bad, fine. Don't complain and whine on site about how I made top cut with my terrible deck choice and awful skill while you were sitting on the sidelines, however. That's called being classless.
More than humble with your loss with Will? "Hey Will... I beat you EVERY TIME we play and I'm so glad the time I lost to you had nothing to do will skill." That's not humble.
Acting like I'm innocent? Learn to read and then read my post. I never claimed I'm some great person. I'm saying regardless of who I am YOU are an arrogant and classless human being at Pokemon TCG tournaments.
Rude and tactless comments? How is arguing for a more centralized location of Regionals tactless? If I recall correctly you yourself lobbied for the exact same thing. Others have as well. It's a sensical argument that is now resolved in my mind for many reasons. Also, last year at states... the wrong ruling was made. End of story. I posted the penalty guidelines with an accurate description of what took place. Not tactless.

Oh. and Austin, you're right. My anger was 100% from my "loss or two." On Saturdays the only things that exists in the world is Pokemon. Life stands still otherwise. Maybe I made a mistake by playing already on tilt, but regardless the tournament accounted for MAYBE a quarter of my emotions. I wanted people to stay away from me because I knew I wasn't in a good place. Between rounds I sat in a corner with my iPod on so I couldn't hear anyone and did my best to not interact with people, but obviously that's not possible. I'm actually offended you think I would get that upset over losing a swiss game against one of my best friends.

Pokemanmaster,
Oh yes, you know Austin but I don't at all. I've never seen him at tournaments or anything. I wasn't at this tournament or the Norman CC or OKC CC and I've never read his posts on this forum.

Whoa! Sorry for blurting that out then. I have only seen him at 1 tournament, so I guess idk for sure. What I'm trying to say is that it's pointless in arguing here. It doesn't solve anything...

That's a lie. Direct lie and completely untrue. I never went up to will and told him he was bad, you're absolutely full of it. I didn't tell you you were bad either, so i don't know where you're pulling any of this out of. If you're going to make crap up, at least make it believable.

I told will good luck and hope he wins it. Even shook his hand. I've lost all respect for you. I missed top cut in Norman by opponent's opponent's win %...not because I lost two rounds because of my own misplays. I lost the final round of swiss only, which anyone would dispute as a legit way to miss top cut. Like I said, grow up and stop waving fingers, especially when you're having to lie.
