Allowing 10% Foreign Cards once again

The year before Foreign cards were banned completely, the rule was that up to 6 of the cards in your deck could be foreign, and you needed translations for them. I think this needs to be put in place once again. It was fair. You can't go and buy only Japanese products, but the extremely high priced cards are easier to get.

If we could use up to 6 cards in foreign languages, Tropical beach would probably drop in price to less than $20. Mewtwo EX would not be a $50 card.(since you would be able to get Japanese versions) And pokemon catcher would be very easy to get since they come in Japanese starter decks. Having cards be more accessible will ultimately attract more players, at least in theory. For this reason I don't see why the 10% rule isn't put back in place.

Also, aren't other countries allowed to use at least two different languages?(Canada can use both French and English and Mexico can use both Spanish and English iirc) Why can't the United States allow either Japanese and English or Spanish and English?

Am I the only one who supports these ideas? Does anyone agree with me here? Or am I just crazy spitting nonsense out of my mouth?

Understand where TPCi is coming from here.

They are a business. A businesses goal is to make money, correct? So it would be silly of them to allow us to use cards they do not make any money from. I totally understand this; I knew people that would buy boxes of Japanese cards because they liked playing them in their deck, and this took money away from TPCi.

At the same time, being an all ages game, Japanese and other foreign language cards also caused plenty of confusions in the younger age division. Heck, we have enough confusion as it is with any kind of reference card when people play old versions of cards (like Super Rod, or Revive). No need to add extra confusion with foreign cards.

HOWEVER, I do think we should be allowed to use foreign Energy. It makes absolutely no sense at all to not let me use Japanese energy cards.

No. No. Nonono. Good bloody lord, no. Oh, the headaches....

Naw I'll pass. I think a better solution would simply be to tin Mewtwo and release Tropical Beach as a promo. We shouldn't be FORCED to buy foreign language cards because TCPi makes cards unreasonably rare. With better planning, none of these things would be a problem, anyways.

The foreign language cards were annoying because people were obnoxious with their references. That's one issue. What I really disliked was people playing Japanese cards with sleeves that slightly allowed the backs of the cards through. I know the rules recommend that sleeves must not do this, but I was at a Regionals one year and this guy played Japanese Cresselia Lv.X's... and the judges basically said it was fine because there was nothing they could do. IDK if that's the correct way to handle it, but its still annoying to deal with. To make a long story short, I know this definitely made a difference in our game and I believe I lost because of it... and even if I didn't I still find it unfair (even after all these years lol).

No one FORCES you to buy anything. That is your choice.

Yeahh you're right I worded that terribly. Let me try and word it more carefully.

People shouldn't have to play a foreign card over a regular card. When I say "have to," I mean "be inclined to," or that it's more reasonable to play foreign cards over regular cards. I just believe when players need to start resorting to foreign sources, somethings wrong. It should be perfectly reasonable to have a deck entirely in your language. It's just awkward otherwise.

JMO, and I hope that came out better. My emphasis on the word "force" is because its upsetting to see cards like Tropical Beach become incredibly rare when all you have to do is release it as a promo or something, and its a very playable card that some decks need.

I personally feel as if the Japanese cards were always more convenient for me to access AND they look much cooler. Gives me more incentive on collecting cards that aren't from the US.

That's EXACTLY the reason they don't allow them. They want you buying English cards. They make no money off you collecting foreign cards.

Either way it's owned by the same company, english or not. Isn't it? I don't see the difference other than obtaining them from a third party - which is typically where you'd obtain it in that sense anyway.

It's worth notingTropical Beach is an unusaul case-no matter how you procure it (excluding the WC deck, which doesn't really count), no one at TPCi makes any money. Rather than a one-card exception, maybe we should consider a rule for cards not part of a set, box, or product tie-in.

All I'm saying is that if you allow the 10% rule once again, it still makes it so people have to buy american cards.

As for it being a headache for judges, I guess my opinion doesn't count here, but don't yugioh and MTG judges have to deal with foreign cards being legal? And aren't their events much bigger? Maybe once I turn 18 next year and I start getting to judge, my opinion on this issue will change, but it seems that judges should deal with a minor inconvenience if it is good for the game in the long run

Wasn't this a decision that came down from people higher than OP? The OP crew struck a compromise between the players and them, but it was outside of OP's hands.

M:TG and YuGiOh! are also primarily played by adults. (and I don't think YuGiOh! allows foreign cards, either).

I'd be okay with Tropical Beach being legal, since it's so rare. I could make a case for BASIC energy, but to be honest, other than Beach, there really isn't a good argument of why they should allow it.

I would love this to be reinstated regardless of if it's for everything or only Tropical Beach. Given how much better quality Japanese cards are than international ones, it'd be great to play with as many as possible.

Foreign & domestic (American) MTG cards have the same backs.

At the least not being able to use foreign Energy cards is a bit ridiculous...

Still, w/e, it sucks we can't use foreign cards, but that is the rule unfortunately >.>
