Today I was going for a ride on my bike. I hadn't been on a bike in about 2 years before yesterday, when I pumped up and cleaned my old one. I was going down a long hill. Not too steep, but there's a sharp turn and the street makes one big "V."
I cut around the corner probably a lot faster than I should have. I get on the sidewalk to complete the turn, but I still have control ...until I hit a 5 inch dip in the sidewalk which I couldn't see from where I was. My front tire bounces up and lands in the long strip of vegetation between the sidewalk and the street, and I couldn't steer. I look ahead and there's a tree... So I just pull the brakes and close my eyes.
A few seconds later, I'm on the ground, and my bike is against the tree, with the seat turned 45 degrees to the right. It takes me a little bit to get up, but I do and I check myself. Bruised leg, and lots of scrapes on my hands, neck and left shoulder. Then I take off my helmet and notice the dent in it, which made me realize I would have probably woke up in a hospital if I hadn't been wearing one.
Here are two photos of the aftermath.

So remember kids, safety first. No, really, it's important. If you've been in any kind of accident, you know how fast it happens.
