Anti-Prizes (Red ran out of Pokémon, Red blacked out)

Perhaps there is a better way. Instead of changing game mechanics on taking prizes, which would cause all cards that use Prize quantity as a factor (Upper, Scramble, etc.), just add to mechanics in order to balance things out:

1) If player A KO's player B's Pokemon, player A gets a prize and player B can get 1 card from the discard pile during his/her turn before attacking and put it into his/her hand.

2) If player A KO's player B's Pokemon, player A gets a prize and player B can search for 1 card from his/her deck during his/her turn before attacking and put that card into his/her hand.

3) If player A KO's player B's Pokemon, player A gets a prize and player B can play up to 2 Supporter cards during his/her next turn.

4) If player A KO's player B's Pokemon, player A gets a prize and player B picks the prize for player A and can draw an additional card at the beginning of his/her turn.

Idk...just some random idea.

1. I like, I like a lot. Tho I want to know how this effects FLoatzel GL LV.X.

2. Slowking GE and Jirachi RR anyone?

3. mmmno, pretty useless as well unless they change the Supporter text.

4. This idea I like a lot. I've had a lot of times where I just whiffed on the card I needed due to lack of draw after getting my Claydol KO'd.

Although I don't think meta rules such as this should be changed significantly, I've often wondered how a game would go if it were to use the Dragonball/Naruto kind of effect.

For those who don't know, essentially the rule would be that whenever a Pokemon were knocked out, you would have to take a card from the top of your deck, and put it to the side like a prize, and the first to get 6 would lose. This wouldn't be a major change to the game, but it would be interesting (at least to me) because you would start the game with every card available to you, and besides searching in-between KOs you wouldn't know for sure what you had.

Interesting idea, though. I'll playtest a few games using your idea. Thanks for posting.

Um, lolwut Regigigas says hi.
"I'll use Sacrifice... I'll take a card, attach two energy, heal 80, attack."

You beat me to it. There are a lot of ways to manipulate this new set of rules. Trode EX would basically let you draw two cards in addition to all of the other shnazzy effects of its power.

Gigas would be so sick. I would've sworn Duel Masters died out? I'm alright with the prize system in pokez, not alright with the donk system. Though I'd love to see more formats in pokemon. 100 single copy card decks is one of the best formats I've played deck constructing was a lot of fun and games were enjoyable because I had to read a lot of the cards.

I do like the prize system in Pokémon the way it is. But if i had to choose something else, it'd be the same as the one mentioned a little bit up. At the beginning of the game you have no prizes. But each time a Pokemon is knocked out you must put the top card of your deck out as a prize. Whoever has six prizes first loses.

WotC stopped producing DM a few years back, yes. But there is still a decently sized following in the west that play with Japanese cards because the game is still thriving in Japan.

Funny, I phrased it "If player A KO's player B's Pokemon" and not if player A KO's his/her own Pokemon. Ooh... Perhaps it's not so broken after all...

Then how would you handle self-knock out situations? It would be the same as using explosion in the video game its a high risk-high reward scenario.

I think self-knock out situations give its own rewards. Regigigas Lv. X gives itself heal and Energy. Electrode ex gives others Energy. I mean if something needs to be further balanced, then will someone else please stand up?

Excuse me sir, but are you defecating upon my persons?

If we are using prize cards as the means of determining victory, and with your Player A knocks out Player B nonsense, there is no longer any setback for using Sacrifice. E.G. I could Sacrifice EVERY TURN, healing 80, attaching energy, and it wouldn't bring my opponent any closer to winning the game, whereas with the current system, smart management of such powers would be required (if Gigas were viable in the meta).

Interesting idea, thanks for sharing it. :)

What do you guys think about playing with your prize cards face up the whole game?

I know there are obviously cards that would clash with this, but do you think this would be good, as you would never really have to worry about cards being stuck in your prizes, or do you think this would be way too big of a reward for knocking out a Pokemon?

One thing it would do is give your opponent a chance to potentially plan their turn better because they will know what prize you just drew. When it is a random prize you pick, that could go either way.

If u forget to draw a prize in the current system, ur only hurting urself. If u forget to draw a prize under the proposed system, it could be viewed as cheating.

Yeah, you can look at it either way. Your opponent could be playing with upper energy and you not taking your prize is a HUGE deal to them!

Cards like electrode ex would be pretty fun.

you KO electrode, you draw 2 prizes, then you get 5 energy from discard?

That's cool and sort of overpowered! :)

I don't see how any of those situations are overpowered. You're putting yourself that much closer to defeat, without even being attacked.
