Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

anyone looking forward to the next rotation?

Guess what. I misunderstood because we were using the same abbreviation for 2 different things. DEX is Dark Explorers, DRX is Dragons Exalted from now on in discussion, to halt confusion.

Dragons-on is horrible if Mr. Mime is in format. JS, that Blastoise you need to kill is going nowhere. Ever.

Seriously. There is no need to make our benchsitters MORE broken. The only benchsitters that take a massive hit are Klinklang (no cobalion) and Rayeels is gone. Sure, Hydreigon doesn't have a buddy no mores, but he isn't even GOOD no mores either. Dusknoir has no apt partner, and Empoleon is okay.

Now the argument I have seen for this is that Ninetales will be played. Ny issue with this is that whoever Bright Looks up the other's Ninetales/Vulpix first basically keeps their benchsitter and the other doesn't as the first one gets to devo spray and re evolve as much as they please.

My case here is this: there is no reason to make benchsitters more broken when Deoxys is entering the fray soon, and the benchsitters we already HAVE are broken.

Feel free to retort with logical points.

Yeah my bad I meant DRX on the abbreviations all look the same sometimes.

Well genesect will be released and change a lot of things, it may knock Blastoise out of competition since the deck has a complete advantage over it. Also Genesect has a catcher like effect too. There is also Escape Rope for some situations. It won't be impossible to play with Catcher gone, things will just be different. You have to understand that Pokemon hasnt had Gust of Wind or Catcher in every format and the game is still alive so it's not like it will be unplayable.

But this is all if there is a mid format rotation. At this point Id prefer if they wait until X and Y to seriously remodel the game. The EX era is what it is and it might as well play out since they arent changing any rules right now and everything they make is going to follow the current trend. Even a rotation wouldnt do much except change the names of what people play and finally retire Mewtwo (after its reign of 2+ years).

Mewtwo and Darkrai are still open to debate in a DEX on format. And Catcher was reprinted in DEX as well.

Rotating NEX would cost us level ball and DCE. Not much more than is played with any seriousness. Heavy ball? Can live without it.

I meant to say DRX on.

I meant to say DRX on.

Let me retort in a list. If I don't, I will lose track.

1. Genesect MAY destroy Keldeo, but Genesect is also pretty slow to set up in my experience. The fastest I have ever gotten off a Megalo Cannon in practice is T3. Remember that Keldeo is getting a few new toys in Plasma Kyurem, Kingdra, and Kyurem EX. The matchup isn't great, but it isn't an autoloss either.

2. Genesect only has a Catcher effect if you attach Plasma Energy from your hand.

3. Escape Rope won't fix your problems with Mime users.

4. I know not every format has had catcher, but not every format has had the overpowered benchsitters we have now. We have such broken bemchsitters now that some even shame the ATTACKERS of previous formats, and the benchsitters will just keep coming as Deoxys and Mime are added into the fray.

What I am trying to get here is that this format will become a Ninetales war if Catcher is rotated before it is reprinted (which it was reprinted in some stupid side set thingy in Japan).

It will become who can take out who's Ninetales first. Is that what we want? It isn't what I want. I didn't want Sableye and Spiritomb wars when those were a scary idea, and I don't want Ninetales wars now. You want to make the game less straightforward? How about making it all luck: who can get out their Ninetales first?

I dont see Blastoise decks running any of the cards you mentioned about. Kyurem EX (new version) isnt much better than Keledo or Black Kyurem EX, Plasma Kyurem is reserved for Lugia decks, and Kingdra is terrible (if your running 2 stage 2 lines, your gunna have a bad time).

Ninetails is a pretty weak card though outside of the catcher effect and only certain decks could take advantage of it. Plus running Vulpix sucks, not everyone wants to fill their decks up with a card that can only help them in certain situations. I highly doubt the game would be a Ninetails war, all that set up just for 1 catcher? Thats not really worth it to a lot of decks.

I dont make the decisions for TPCi, so if there was a DRX on format, it will be what it will be. I dont think its much different than whats now. The entire game is a smash fest ATM in a BW on format or a DRX format. But who really knows though? You cant just think in the hypothetical until a format is actually in front of you.

New Kyurem EX is not fantastic, no. Plasma Kyurem is a nice toy, and Kingdra is actually not bad, if you test it. Sure, it requires Mime cover, but after you get Kingdra out, all the energy you discarded turns into power, and goes back into your deck (the main reason for inclusion).

As for Vulpix and Ninetales... you don't have much choice when faced with Mr. Mime. Mr. Mime, when you eliminate Catcher, is INCREDIBLY broken as it shields itself and the bench from attacks when it is on the bench. That means you are only hitting what they want you to hit, and if that is sigilyph... you're going to be hitting nothing most of the time, unless you run Ninetales. Sure, Ninetales is bad, but desparate times will call for desparate measures, and the top players are already preparing.

Also, you say that this format is a "mash fest" like the format without Catcher wouldn't be. It would be mashing the active, new active brought up, rinse, repeat. Seriously, I am either hoping for no rotation or DEX-on, as both make the most sense to me.

We always have escape rope, not as efficient as catcher but much better than ninetales. Not sure how you see a ninetales war becoming a normal thing.

They escape rope into another sigil or another attacker without the need of wasting an energy to retreat. In a way, most of the time you would be helping your opponent.

Rule changes doesn't seem like a thing that could possibly happen, but I can see your complaint about too much Plasma making the format boring. Of course, with Plasma Cards comes anti-Plasma cards. Silver Mirror from the new Megalo Cannon set prevents damage from Plasma attacks, and I'm sure more will come about.

with every new generation come a few rule changes with x and y coming soon id say theres some rule changes by this time next year... if not sooner

Make the format unlimited for one season, and see how the sales of older cards and sets increase! the game would be so diverse people wouldnt know what to do with the card pool. They wont do that tho because the card sales of newer sets would not increase.

The format sucks, but its not GG so i can live with it.

I actually love the thought of this. Maybe a small ban list, but otherwise like it. Yes, tournaments already have unlimited, but in the main game it would be something to see.

If you think this format is bad why would you want unlimited? It would be 75% first turn wins and the rest misses of the donk

What about just simply rotating the shiny reprints along with their past incarnations? I mean, it's different than what they usually do, but it's still an option.

Unlimited can be good with the right ban list/rule set. I've "resorted" to Unlimited through the whole B&W series because I've disliked it so much! That said, I'll keep playing Unlimited now even if XY improves things, it's been great fun but I'd like to play competitive Pokemon again, as long as it's interesting.

XY on is what me and a whole load of other people I know that quit want... along with an improved game of course. I think it's entirely possible to market to "the kids" and gamers without dumbing the game down but also leaving simple options in there for the people who want them.

Magic has multiple formats including "Unlimited" style ones. It might not look like it'd help sales but you have to think that with more formats you're appealing to more types of players and putting a sense of longevity into the game so people just keep playing it year in year out.

We do not even know if there is going to be a rotation and if there is remember Darkrai and Mewtwo are promos, and still Viable cards Assuming NXD or DEX will be rotated. Personally I am thinking no rotation or NXD on, even still, a no catcher meta would be... interesting.

I just feel like we're currently in a metagame that is a hot mess.. and with a rotation you're damned if you do, damned if you don't.

Just going to have to deal with a dull and very irritating game for a while.
