Hi Quildra,
Yes. Getting the league approved, waiting on initial materials, and getting access to the forums, and getting your account updated to reflect league ownership are all anxiety-inducing things...
We've all been there. I want you to understand that there are a HANDFUL of people processing all of these requests for the ENTIRE WORLD (and they're hand-processed). So, the same people that keep the existing leagues going ALSO have to get around to helping newcomers establish their new leagues.
Unless something improved dramatically since we started our own league, it ... takes... months to get you fully processed and going. Do not think this will be a 7 day turnaround; you'd be in for a major disappointment.
ApachePrime has given you VERY GOOD advice. You need to AVOID promising anything to your league members. Be very honest and tell them that your league needs to go on for awhile before it achieves "official" status, nothing will be sent to you from PUI for a month or two, and there will be NOTHING given to players until the leagues status is official and PUI starts sending materials for you to distribute.
NEXT POINT... you need to be adamanet about your league members getting registered on Pokemon.com.
That will be your biggest headache. YOU need to become adept with helping people get registered on Pokemon.com. Registering minors will need parent registration as well. Parents want to "get it done and over with" and the Pokemon.com registration process is NOT a one-step thing when it comes to registration of minors. The parent will need to register themselves an account ==> register the child's account ==> go back to their email and approve child registration =>> go back to their own account and turn on all account allowances in account settings.
Then, you need to have rules that make parents feel comfortable with bringing/leaving their kids under your care. If you're successful and attendance becomes robust, you'll need to have a pre-established culture of good conduct to manage the environment.
Also, how will you check out people and award promos? If you have a league of 30 or more participants, you'll really need a second person to do "check-outs" and a carrying device for the promos and league cards.
Running a league is ALOT more than just showing up and telling people to "come in and play." For a new league owner, you may not actually get to play for a few months; you'll be helping new players learn the game and establishing an SOTG culture among those who already play. It's akin to managing a classroom of young children actually...
