Applying for a New League

Hello! A friend of mine and I are trying to start a league at our local library.

This thread is looking for some advice as we are having trouble getting started.

She submitted the application and background check back in February. We didn't hear anything for a LONG time.We finally got an email on March 27. It said "As part of our ongoing efforts to have current background checks on file for all Premier Tournament Organizers, Tournament Organizers, and League Owners, you have been selected to take part in our current round of background checks.
Please go to background/instruction and follow the instructions found there in order to submit your background check paperwork.
If you have any questions about this matter, you may contact us via support.pokemon.com.

Sincerely,
The Pokémon Company International"

As we had already submitted her background check, we were confused by this. The link, "background/instruction" was broken and led no where.

We created a ticket on the customer support link they mentioned in the email. We created a ticket on March 28, 2014. We still have not heard anything back 3 weeks later. The customer support ticket still reads "Work in progress" as its status.

We are very frustrated. We really want to start our league, but can't until we hear back.

Has anyone had a similar experience or have any advice for solving this issue? Thank you so much for your help and time!! :)

That really sounds frustrating.
I'm currently in a new situation where I am trying to start a new league in a brand new shop and there is a pre-established shop with a league who would like me to help prof. but without a response I'm afraid my participation would not count.

You have done the right things. As long as you submitted the background paperwork initially, you do not need to do it again. It has been mentioned on another forum that the background check company is VERY backed up, and the emails are an automated response, rather than a person really looking at your file and saying "hmmmm, we need a background check on this person." So, don't send the paperwork in again, but do, please, be patient. In the meantime, if you can, keep playing at the library and gathering new players, then you'll be ready to reward everyone as soon as all the paperwork is completed on their end.

Alright. Could you send me a link to that forum if you could find it? I am still confused as to the link. It didn't seem like a legit link from the first place, so I am confused as to what the link would be to (another form, perhaps?). I would like to see if anyone else got the same email with the specific link. Thanks for the response!

I also read on another thread that the Pokemon Company customer service gets really backed up during competition months, and this month is regionals. The last set of Regionals is on April 26, so hopefully once that is over we can get a response from customer service.

We FINALLY got an update on the customer service site. It reads "I'm afraid that we do not have any record of having received your paperwork." This is extremely frustrating. Not only did it take them over a month to get back to us, but they also lost our Paperwork. My friends information is now floating around somewhere, including her SS#. We are just all around lost and frustrated. We want to start this league as a way to share our passion with our community and teach pokemon to younger generations. All we have gotten so far is Delays and very unhelpful information. Any advice at this point? :(

I'm in the same boat. I applied to be an Organizer about 6 months ago, and sent in my background paperwork at the same time. No responses from the company. Multiple support tickets were 'escalated' then ignored. About 3 months ago I also received the "You've been selected" email, also with a broken link. About 2 months ago, I did receive in the mail an automated copy of my background check. All clear.

I've still not heard anything from the company about my organizer status.

In the meanwhile, a new comic store has opened and I'm applying to be a league owner at that shop. I put in my application May 3rd, and as before, have heard absolutely nothing from the company about my application.

It's very frustrating.

I've applied only 2 weeks ago, but all these delays are scaring me now. We've started meeting and playing, (already up to 10 person who came up to this point), we'll see who will be the regulars. But in order for the league to grow, we do need support from the company. 6 months? That's way too long! :( I hope they are able to catch up soon.

If your delay goes on too long (over a month, probably), you can also try to reach out to other league owners nearby or to whoever runs the Prereleases and other Premier tournaments in your area. They might have additional supplies they can share with you while all the paperwork gets finished up.

We still haven't heard anything since my last update. I go on at least every 2 weeks and post a comment on our support ticket, but even when I bump it we get no responce. I understand they must be busy with Nationals winding down, but still, its pathetic considering that there are people like us volunteering our time to help them grow. WE get no financial compensation, and even though our efforts will likely make them money, they still treat us like dirt. We are pretty much to the point of giving up. Best of luck to you all. I will let you know If I get any more updates.

Another question to consider. Was your application to be a League Owner completed and submitted with the same name/information? (For example, if someone goes by "Ben" but their legal name is "Jeremiah Bennett" - it might be hard to match up the two documents (one of which has a legal name for background check, and the other which has your name as you use it or as you entered on Pokemon.com...

Just a thought worth checking - if the folks getting these two applications can't match them up, it doesn't look like you've got everything in order and is more likely to fall to the bottom of the pile.
