Here's one that isn't on the primal clash FAQ. There's no official ruling on it at the moment but Pokepop Mike Martin and I are ruling it this way for pre-releases this weekend.

Because of "then" in the second sentence it looks like you have to be able to take a Pokémon out of your discard in order to draw six cards.

Will get an official ruling on THIS soon as possible.

I thought it was always like this. You have to be able to fulfill some of the effect, in this case would be finding a Pokemon to put in play before you can draw the 5 cards. The word "then" makes it seem more likely that would be the correct ruling.

Not so sure about this ruling. There is language used on several cards along the lines of "Do xxx. If you do, then ...." This just says do this, THEN do that. As long as one of the actions is possible, the game state is affected by the play of the card and the play is legal. I look forward to the official ruling on both these cards.

This was how I ruled it today.

This is how I read it too. "Then" does split the statement into two sub-clauses, with the second following the completion of the first, but the "do as much as you can" rule allows for sub-clauses to be considered completed without having actually done anything (while the "if you do" wording requires something to actually be done). The rule about not playing cards for no known effect applies to the card as a whole, not individual sub-clauses.

By the way...
"Reason: Will get an official ruling on Mrs. soon as possible."
...did you get autocorrected? :p

After looking extensively at the wording of the card it would appear that the wording makes it so that it is most definitely the first effect must be applicable to change the game state. Otherwise the second effect has no possibility of going off. It is worded so you Do this and then do that. Basically if the game state isn't changed by the first effect then the card cannot be played. If it had been worded And/or(Or something to that effect) draw 5 cards then yes you could.

The game sees the discard and the play area. It cannot see the contents of your hand or deck, only the number of cards. So to this we have visible knowledge and invisible knowledge. So a search for a specific card type from the deck can fail and still have an effect on the game state since you have a shuffle effect go off after. Yet from the discard if failed does nothing to the game state. The contents of the discard stay the same in case scenario. So in the case of these two cards it looks at the first effect for a pass or fail to determine if it is playable or not.

If effect 1 changes the game state Then 2 applies. I wanted to take the player side on this seeing as I am a TCG player myself, however I decided to delve deeper into the wording and find it to be against the players.
