If the k value of a tournament is 8 can i lose more than 8 points or win more than 8 points from any given match?

The K-value of a tournament factors into the amount of points you and your opponent will win/lose on a given match. At a K-value of 8, if you play an opponent of equal ranking the winner gets 4 points and the loser loses 4 points. It you have a lower ranking than your opponent and you win, you gain more points than a case where you have a higher ranking than your opponent, but you will never win/lose more points than the K-value.
