I was on the pojo site and i saw an ad for beckett and pokemon, everyone knows there have been no pokemon magizines for a while, so the fact that beckett is going to do pokemon for the next 6 months means they have taken notice of the pokemon community...Thoughts?

I'm surprised. Although their prices aren't really accurate and their is hardly ever any deck tips. But it's nice to see them resurface in Pokemon again.

has had any one had a look at it? is it any good? (hopefully i'll be able to pick it up in the uk somewhere...)

Flipped through one at the supermarket.
Card-wise, they had the same 10 pictures for PK that everyone else has.

How about the price guide? Is that anywhere near accurate? (read: within about 10% above or below Gym/Ebay)

Prices can't be wrong or right. It's subjective. It all depends on how much the buyer needs it and how much the seller wants to get rid of it. If you're saying their estimates about what cards sell for on average are way off, you could be right. Maybe there's just not enough data to find a good, stable value for certain cards.

I wouldn't waste your money with Beckett, let alone any other magazine dealing with Pokemon. Seems like they're gearing up to cash in when Diamond and Pearl is released.

the thing is with TCG card value shifts rapidly... think about how much blastoise cost before DS came out... then after...Or mew ex 45-50 before worlds after it dropped to 24-25 or even holon transciever the price of them went up every week during cities

They say castform costs fifty cents.

It's extremely accurate.

It's kind of sad that they abandon pokemon when the game needed people, and now that we've finally taken back a chunk of the market people want to come back and support it.

i used to buy beckett pokemon all the time, but i don't know why. they never wrote anything meaningful in there. all they had were scans of a set that was 6 months old, episode recaps of episodes that already aired, and some contest to win a theme deck or something. i think they used to feature a deck once in a while, but never anything that could compete.

Beckett treated Pokemon as if it was just another fad, hence their article structures and why they actually ditched Pokemon. Very unrespectable from something like that.

Heh, memories...

I used to buy it occasionally, mainly for the articles like the one about the WCSTS...and the deck article Steven Diamond wrote up on a deck that a good friend and I came up with

Good times, indeed :thumb:

you can't blame a company for not printing a magazine if it's no longer profitable... i wish there was a magazine for older fans of the game though...

The magazine is horrible. The only nifty aspect of it are when they print like the first 30 cards of a set, so you can effectively have a card-dex in front of you wherever you go. Other than that, it's overpriced, and is really designed quite horribly. I could design a pokemon magazine much better.

Prime, we probably all could  , but the problem is for it to actually sell. Presumably most people who buy pokemon magazines are gonna be fairly young, so what appeals to you or I will not appeal to them.

I don't understand why they don't do what Pojo used to do and print all the cards (or maybe half of the cards in one issue and the rest in another)

you should i mean between the gym ebay and your knowledge of the game i could see that being done...but im curious wouldnt beckett need nintendo's approval so i would think nintendo would make sure beckett did a good job
