Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

Black and White rules out of the box

A question, will cards before BW still have Poke-Powers and Poke-Bodies, or will they be abilities now to?

they are still powers and bodies....funny they go from 1 thing (pokemon power) to splitting into 2 things (bodies and powers) to reverting back to 1 thing.....ridiculous

Ban/restrict list is part of what makes YGO so godawful in the first place. Pokemon is at least smart enough not to design broken cards.

Let's give some benefit of the doubt here. Let's presume that TPCi is not run by idiots or mental patients. Let's presume that they know the cards that are coming and plan these sets months in advance -- which they have to, because of print lead times if nothing else.

So there is method to the apparent madness. Unfortunately they don't share the method, so most of us are left to ask "what the #@$! were they thinking". But I like to think there is rational justification for their choices besides pure corporate greed.

Or maybe the point is to hold back some cards that would really screw the current format.

Fact is, this is one of those all-too-common can't win scenarios for TPC. If they rotate mid-season, they have to deal with all the messes that creates. If they leave the format as is, they have to deal with what's already been cited in this thread. Either way the PokeGym Hate Machine drags out the torches and pitchforks and proclaims the decision as the Ruination And Imminent Death Of The Game (tm). Have I pretty much called how the rest of April plays out?

I agree. TPCi is usually in a situation where it is in check mate. Something tells me they did wanted to not break the format even more with Catcher and Max heal. I mean gyrados still got its major upgrade in Juniper. We still get the other version of the starters. And Zekrom and Reshiram. Still good. Although however i do not want them doing this anymore. I mean even yugioh has a relativily stable format. In their last tournament the top 4 decks were different to each other (fish, sams deckout and Sabers with many others in the top tables). Right now I predict 3 decks and THATS IT, sabledonk, luxray/garchomp and gyrados. Maybe trainer lock. A high Maybe. Everything sucks (as to why i did not list uxie donk is well having a 50% of losing). Not to mention most games are going to be OHKO. After all aspects I think thats the worst one. I mean we just had a HUGE discussion over donks in the last month or so. Just look at one of Jwittz videos or in the Uxie donk polls. We all hate it. But again what can TPCi can do?

Wait!!! There are new rules?!?!?!?!? I just got used to the old rules!
Anyway, Thinking of buying box what cards are good?

well moose off the top of my head most of the pokes that have abilities are pretty good, Reshiram, Zekrom, Cinccino, Zoroark are good ones too.

on another note i cant help but notice that the red theme deck has fire/fighting energy but only 2 fighting poke total in the deck (2 copies of timburr), while the green has 8 psychic and blue has 5 lightning

Is it set in stone that these new rules have to take effect immediately when the cards are released? Can't TPCI announce the rule changes will take effect on September 1? TPCI can pretty much determine what they want, when they want, right?
Where is this announcement from TPCI that the rule changes take effect on April 25?

These rules are a disaster. I can understand that TPCi was stuck between a rock and hard place here, but these rules were not made for this format.

Hey just a quick question. Somebody asked this on the first page, but I didn'tunderstand the answer well...

Do Trainer locks like Spiritomb AR and Vileplume UD lock only Trainer-Item cards or Item cards (Trainer-Item, Supporter-Item and Stadium-Item)?

They only lock trainer-item cards.

Uhh....

Sabledonk will be better, gets to go T1 and play trainers.

Uxie Donk and SHuppet Donk loose the Plus Power returnability that they once had. He plays Beedrill G...and I'm betting that he attacked with Uxie at one point or another too. Oh, and I've seen his list....it's not all a donk deck.

TPCi should have got their ish together and manned up to do a mid season rotation with full set release on BW. They however did the second best thing, I have a lot of faith in TPCi and for me to say that their research and development team didn't sit down discuss and possibly even test out the donk decks against other popular decks would be absurd. Though I do believe that the set has less appeal it still has a great appeal to newer players (especially ones not looking to be competitive) and DS players who are excited to use their favorite unova pokez in the tcg. I run a pretty respectable league with a lot of casual younger players and they absolutely loved Call of Legends because of the gimmicky shiny pokez and alternate art works on some of their favorite cards. I think the sets fine, will I just go buy 8x Juniper, 8x Revive, and some hit or miss cards yes but the stores will still buy the same amount of cases as they did Rising Rivals.

On a side note how does Jirachi from RR work with the new supporter rule? I'd imagine errata to say if you played a supporter this turn copy the effect of that supporter as this attack.

wait, so there are NO restrictions (other than no rare candy) on the player who goes first? go go uxie donk!

Roland, do you forget that, Uxie donk cannot loop pluspowers any more?

Dead deck is dead.

will jirachi rr get a rule change
Michael, if you read that bit about Probopass, it will be the same for Jirachi....

Jirachi's attack would be reworded as:
"(.) Detour: If you did play a Supporter card this turn, use the effect of that card as the effect of this attack."

Hope this helps, my friend.

Dead Deck is dead? You do NOT have to rely on the flip who goes first anymore. That being said, just play Sableye, go first, and donk.

Horrible format. Worst format for Nationals and Worlds EVER. I just hope they announce a mid season rotation soon.

I can't believe they are implementing the new rules before Platinum is rotated out. Luxchomp is going to be beyond INSANE.

Catcher isn't in B/W

...And neither are 41 other cards. Hmm.

If this was being discussed already, mods, please close. Otherwise, though, discuss. I know many people were anticipating Gyarados being even more broken with the release of Catcher, and a few other decks could probably have made good use of it as well. Sort of a free Luxray GL Lv.X. What sort of disappointment exists about this card's delayed release? I know it was one of the most highly anticipated cards in the set...

Uxie Donk doesn't win past whiffing a donk anyway usually, and these new rules jsut give them more oppurtunity to do so.

But even apart from that, the whole idea of the person gonig first being allwoed to do the same as the person gonig 2nd blows my mind. People think going 2nd is an advantage now (which it is, in most cases), but going first with the new rules will ALWAYS be better. Seems dumb to give someone such an advantage on a coin flip.
