Just wanted to let everyone know that at the time we were interviewed for this article Josh was #1 throughout all of the divisions in the world from cities until last week. We were just waiting on the medals for the pictures. Also I don't have control over what was printed. Quite a few things he quoted me on was not what I said at all...things tend to be taken out of context.

Well, that's what journalists tend to do. They're more salespeople than actual journalists, only writing the stories that will make money and keep their paper in business. Not too many that actually tell it as it is anymore.

Anyways, congratulations to your son (based on the wording of this post, I'm going to assume that this was your son).

The mix of cards in a deck must include basic Pokemon character cards from each stage of the monsters’ development, energy cards (fire, water, electric, grass, metal, dark and psychic) and trainer cards.

They left out fighting. Probably for the whole reason posted above about journalists wanting to make money articles. No parent wants to see a card game with cards about fighting, do they?

Thanks and over the past 2 years we've put 25k miles on my van for Pokemon....can you say mileage reiumbursement?? HAHA!

Thanks to all and good luck to everyone this weekend!!

Are you going to be taking your son to the California states also?
Just curious and again congratulations on your son's achievement.

He's pretty good. For a Junior. Honestly, if he were in Seniors or Masters it would be a different story, and he's not technically the top-rated or best player in the world, but props to him for doing so well in his age division.

I fully expect him to go T4 or better in Illinois this weekend. And the Juniors around here are no slouches, some players with a lot of ability that (in a few years) will make splashes in Srs and Mas.

that is really an amazing thing 10 city medals...my son who is highly ranked in TX got 5 and we were impressed, hope to see you guys at Nats and Worlds...keep up the good work. Alot of people could learn alot of lessons from the players in the Junior division, these little guys and girls are very tough and could beat many srs and masters any day...

As the dust is settling from States Joshua remains "on top of the World" - of rankings anyway. He is 30 points ahead of his nearest competitor, Lily H. from Oregon. Looks like the JR division at US Nationals should be interesting!

Thanks to all Josh has worked very hard and playtests practically everyday because he absolutely loves the game. Sadly, he would have over 50 more points if Nat Martin Kansas state judge hadn't allowed his opponent in the top 4 to cheat!

But hopefully Pokemon will make everything right I have filed a formal complaint through [email protected].

Yes Nationals and Worlds should be alot of fun!! Looking forward to it.

Any statement like that needs to either be backed up with facts or not made. As it is, it's a pretty strong accusation to make in a public forum

Frankly, I've been expecting this all week. I thought it would come a bit sooner, though.

First off, you were a good 10 feet away from the match. I'm not convinced you actually know what you saw.

Second, the call in question here was that the opponent in question tried to attach a second energy. Your son made the statement to the judge to that effect, but the game state at that point made it impossible to verify by counting energy. The opponent had no penalties on the day, so with no way to corroborate the claim, I allowed the play to stand.

Third, I put Nat Martin on that match because he is my best judge, and pays close attention to the games, particularly the Juniors matches where they tend to play fast and need to be hosed down once in a while. I would be astounded if he did miss a call like that, but if he did (and I really do not believe that is the case), then it is nothing but an honest mistake, something I'm sure every judge (myself included) has committed at some point, even in a Top Cut match. Tragic when it happens at that point in the tournament, but PUI is not going to overturn the results of a match a week later from 3000 miles away. I'm sorry you feel you were robbed, but refs miss calls in every sport. Ask the San Diego Chargers how they feel about that sort of thing.

But back to the main point, your claim of sanctioned cheating on the part of my judges is slanderous and insulting, and I am personally appalled that you would air this in a public forum. I hope that you handle this sort of thing far better down the road, because staff at the Regionals and Nationals level is probably not nearly as forgiving as I am.

This thread was not started to discuss questionable calls or the judging in a particular tournament. Everyone, take a deep breath and get back on track. Use e-mail to PUI or PM's between yourselves if you want to discuss things not releted to this thread. Get it back on track or it will be locked and appropriate warnings will be issued.

My daughter is 10 and has been playing pokemon since August of 08. With the help from almost everyone at league and the tournaments (TEXAS) she has become quite a good player. As far as juniors not building there own decks she did not really start to win until she started building her own decks, she has a second place finish at only her 3rd battle roads and a first place finish at a city championship. It does not matter if you are a junior, senior or master its tuff to win 1 tournament much less 10. Congrats on the wins
