Come on man what other alternatives (Togekiss, Blaziken, Typhlosion, or Leafeon LV.X).

Of coure my opinion is biased, for me to not bash someone their post has to be well thought out, not just "I just feel that Rotom doesn't do much in this deck.", if someone had a good opinion well at least a slightly good opinion I wouldn't bash them. If your idea is bad I will tell you period. I'm trying to help people that way the number of actual good players would increase.

Ok 1st off 1-0-1 lines can easily be prized. 2nd of all powers can easily be turned off. Don't get me wrong in a perfect world I would run 3-2-3-1 Ape 2-2 Claydol and 2-1-2 Firestarter but with the format as it is (PLOX, Omastar, Dusknoir, Glaceon), it is just not smart. If we could use Poke-Powers all willy nilly I would just play Electivire and do 130 a turn.

PS- Please include how you will constantly attack for more than 40 or 30-10.

and a single Rotom can't be just as easily prized? furthermore, it requires an attack, allowing your oppnent to go a turn w/o being damaged, and being able to lock in the powers that 1 more turn, or doing more benched damage, and getting set-up more.

Look at the list there 2 Rotom. Okay lets look at attacks.
1) There are attacks that you can choose exactly who to do the damage to for instance Dual Splash or Flame Buster.
2) Attacks that hit the active for X damage and also spread to the bench.
3) Only the active is hit.
Under each circumstance your bench Pokemon are better off they take less damage and aren't affected by weakness.

Would you rather sach (or even possibly not sach) a Rotom to get 2 more energy in play (also may activate Scramble) then next turn have a fresh Ape to get the KO or do a weak attack with Ape and have him damaged or worse KO'd and even if we wasn't probably still not get the KO.

I think I have proved my point. Rambo you are so right I just hate BK's sooooo much.

I'm not saying don't run Rotom. You made a great deck list, but I just feel in testing Rotom isn't s good. you can do what you think, just IMO.

fine, dont take any other advice. but if a 1 turn 2 energy from discard for an attack is better in your opinion than 1 energy from discard every turn for power and a decent attacker to rid yourself of DRE's, scrambles, and water energies, who am i to argue?

If 1 of those cards are prized the 1-0-1 line becomes useless as you have to draw into it and not get fast kos like t3
1 cff
2 rotom
3 Infernape

And dont forget scramble its too good not too mention if your active dies rotom. You get alot more damage plus the duel trans one to ohko a wailord lol.

i'm sorry but i have played this deck for a while, many different lists and you CANNOT play it without rotom, really really really, my opinion may not be respected very much on the gym but this is something that i am sure of and many people have backed me up in that statement including people with very respectable reps it's just black and white, it doesn't work without rotom,

i don't want to attack anyone, or make people change their minds i'm just saying noone that knows what they're talking about would say rotom is not needed, i use it 2-3 times in every game

i will playtest anyone that wants to prove rotom isn't needed just pm me i'm not on much right now with work but when i get it i will play you

Members, this is the DECK HELP forum. You can make points about the deck list, but not about other posters. Make sure you contribute to the discussion and not just post the equivalent of 'nyah nyah'.

Team R setting the trends.

I like Infernape. It can be teched to have so many options. That's what makes it so good.

Turn 2 retreat Pachirisu:lightning and send Rotom :lightning active and Dual Trans :fire: energy to Chimchar:fire:. You can either choose to set up or immediately go on the offensive depending on the situation. Togekiss:colorless is for late game to replenish your pokemon preferably after you Flare Up.

BDIF

Edit: Togekiss line could be changed to any of the following.
  • 1-0-1 Alakazam: Power Cancel gets energy in the discard pile and allows you to shut of powers.
  • 1-0-1 Blastoise δ: Shield Veil takes away weakness with helps against Empoleon, Glaceon, and Garchomp also is a good attacker against Glaceon.
  • 1-1 Dugtrio : Sand Veil Prevents bench damage.
  • 1-1 Lati-Lock: Dual Aura Shuts off Evolved Pokemon's bodies which helps against Eeveelutions, Garchchomp, and Kabutops.

I believe that Claydol is a better fit in this deck than Delcatty and I will give pro's and con's for both.

Claydol
Pro's
  • Able to draw up to 6 cards without needing to have an energy card in hand.
  • Recycles your deck preventing you from losing by decking.
  • Team Galactic's Wager recovery.
  • Keeps the size of your hand down which makes your opponent playing a Copycat less effective.
  • Fighting type (not colorless type-Battle Frontier).
Con's
  • You must put at least one card from your hand under your deck.
  • Doesn't give you the opportunity to discard an energy.

Delcatty/ Delcatty EX
Pro's
  • Able to discard any energy from your hand.
  • Able to draw three cards no matter hand size.
  • Able to shuffle all energy cards from discard pile back into deck.
  • Able to Constrain both your and your opponents hands down to six.
  • Free Retreat.
Con's
  • Must have energy card in hand to be able to draw.
  • Draws at max 3 cards per Energy Draw.
  • Colorless Type (Battle Frontier).
  • 90 HP Pokemon EX.

Delcatty has more con's than Claydol and only 2 pro's that could ever be better and that is the ability to discard energy and the ability to get back dre's and scramble energy. Neither is needed in this deck because Infernape MD's attack discards energy, retreating Pachirisu and Rotom both put energy in the discard, also Infernape Lv.X is able to get back all basic fire energies with his Flare Up attack for a guaranteed OHKO on any pokemon in this format.

Match Ups

These Match Ups are based on both decks getting the best starting hand.
If you would like to test a deck against me my Hamachi Network is abyssbeatz and the password is also abyssbeatz.

Burner vs. Gardy Gallade
65-35
This a pretty easy match up because you do not rely on powers to fuel your attacks and late game GG can't keep up with your attacking ability.

Burner vs. Banette
70-30
Dre and one plus power rids you of Banette they are fast but you are faster.

Burner vs. Blissey Decks
70-30
They require too much energy and cannot keep up with your attacking power.

Burner vs. Empoleon
51-49
Weakness hurts but it's still not enough to throw the game in their favor beware of scramble Lake Boundary.
Set Up two Ape before attacking.

Burner vs. Glaceon
50-50
By far one of your hardest match-ups do to their ability to do bench damage as well as ko Ape. They also do 60 for 1
and prevent damage done. In this case retreat send up Rotom set up. This match is decided by who can set up fastest.

Burner vs. Garchomp
45-55
This is the hardest match-up because they have 130 hp and OHKO you for 3 energy no plus power needed. Because
of this Battle Frontier or Cessation Crystal is needed in this deck I just can't find the room.

Your Empoleon matchup is not that good...on top of weakness they just slowly kill your baltoy and chimchar, if they are good empoleon player the wuldn't focus on a ape active, and besides yo ukilling their empoleons would give adavantage to THIER scrambles...

That's exactly why a 1-1 dugtrio tech can change the emp matchup sooooo much. Forcing them to only attack with their second attack. Now you just exchange prizes and if you can activate scamble you get an automatic KO if they get tails on surf together.

the dugtrio tech is definately good what is a "good" empoleon player going to do, tech against it ?

i'm sure we're all rolling on the floor laughing, at the thought of any "good" player teching against ape, none the less, an empoleon player, the empo match isn't easy at all but i've been playing ape long enough to know that i have an equal chance to win techs or no techs

as to the unnamed varient, i'm not going to nats, the reason i don't want to name it is that it isn't ready, if i post it on here at this time people will just tear it apart before they know what they're talking about, it is common practice on the pokegym and you can find some great examples on pretty much every page of this thread

i WILL be at the grinder and i will be playing ape/with varients but i'd like to see some people step it up at nats and give ape a good showing, but i know it will never happen because everyone out there fighting for points is going to be playing safe cookie cutter decks like empo and gardy , i wish i could be there
