Burglar Matt’s Battle Roads Report

Well by far the biggest let down of this tournament was not being able to go to Cozumel to eat, what most likely would have been incredibly diarrhea inducing Mexican food but I guess we can’t all have that perfect Battle Roads experience. Despite this setback, I did come away with the Victory Medal and went undefeated for the tournament with Gyarados!

Round 1 vs. James Proctor (Garchomp MT/Garchomp C)
Props to the double Garchomp. This game didn’t ever really take off; he got a Baltoy start and no other basics. After evolving into Claydol and passing I Regi Healed away my third Magikarp for the 90 Tail Revenge.

(1-0)

Round 2 vs. Jeff Sharp (Dark Garchomp SV)
This is an interesting matchup for Gyarados. The new Garchomp always hits Gyarados for 120 (unless you randomly toss on an energy) and with Weavile and a single Special Dark it’s a one hit KO for three energies. Overall Gyarados’ recovery abilities won the match.

(2-0)

Round 3 vs. Brit Pybas (Luxalock)
This deck is a cool Dialga, Palkia Luxray deck, props on deck construction, and slops on terrible dead draws. I got good set-up this game with a Sableye start, Magikarp on the bench and a Felicity’s drawing in my hand. He drew, attached energy and passed. After a knockout he scooped, just bad luck this time Brit.

(3-0)

Round 4 vs. Shawn Phelan (Absol G/Palkia G)
Coming in to this match we were the two 3-0’s and would most likely be the top 2. I got a Baltoy start this time and started out worried but after attaching, passing turn one then taking 20 damage from Splashing Turn I top decked a Sableye and searched for a Magikarp to evolve into Gyarados. I Impersonated a Roseanne’s and grabbed two more Magikarp. Shawn got the double knockout next turn on my Sableye and Baltoy leaving me with two Magikarp in hand and no way to get rid of them. I drew into a Claydol and Pokemon Rescued my Baltoy and the Cosmic Power saved me. I went on to after he took three early prizes.

(4-0)

Top 2 vs. Shawn Phelan
Here comes the rematch! These two games I got off to much better starts (loving the fourth Sableye I added the night before) and I won game 1 when he scooped. Game 2 I had another Sableye start, and two Turns in my hand. I got the Magikarp in the discard early and knocked out an Absol G Lv. X with a flash bite, then flash bit the sent up Palkia G and Tail Revenged for the game.

Woo! Victory Medal! I’m pumped. Next week: Sedalia.

I am glad that you all didn't wind up eating at that death trap LOL. I have no idea if it was bad hehe. I didn't mind getting 3rd although I really would have liked to see our match up never happened though :( Great job buddy! Way to represent Springvegas!!!
