Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

Can Gengar be stopped?

With all do Respect, Gengar was virtually Non-Existant in
the 2009 Canadian Nationals. It get's beat by Dialga and
Flygon/Weavile. It's so easily played around and is a bad
choice for anyone who wants to top cut.

Nah, they're not lying. Go check the reports (the Canadian one is sorted out now, and there were no Gengars in T16).

The only deck that has won all season is Kingdra. No-one even played Gengar much until US Regionals. It's been very successful since then, but it won't be the best deck for ever (sorry).

Baby Mario: I know that they aren't lying. It's a little bit weird that Gengar pwned @ Brs, States but not so much nats.

I am a Gengar player and i could careless if my opponent "gets around" Fainting Spell. As long as I am able to take the first prize, I am usually able to win with or without the use of Fainting Spell. Also, my opponent can have everything on their side with an Unown G attached to it. Nidoqueen will have so much fun Mega Punching and Ruthless Tailing for the win.

i know, they spend so much time getting rid of ALL of their trainers (burning many for no use) and g'ing every thing. you just plain sweep.

It's NOT the deck people... it's the people... people.

Any deck that WORKS has a chance of winning. If you play Gengar and you whiff your start, I can smash you with a Lucario deck w/ a Sudowudo tech.. lol
Your statement is totally wrong.

Your scenario has NOTHING to do with the people, just luck.

I love the whole mind set that Gengar brings to the table. I probably use shadow rome like 80% of the time. I love how they burn like all of their trainers, and then I never use poltergiest.

this gengar stuff is ridiculous. watch nobody play it at nats and then afterwards everyone saying "well those 4 unown g's i played were a waste" ;/

just the fact that the opponent can limit the damage output of the deck makes gengar bad. add in unown g to stop shadow room and the only thing to watch out for is fainting spell, which is a coin flip. play your game intelligently and you win, even playing scizor/cherrim.

1. Most people don't play their Nats deck at BRs, so Gengar didn't have the same match ups against the best players that it did at Nats.

2. Because Gengar won a lot of BR's people stuck 3-4 Unown G in their deck for Nats, making Shadow Room more or less useless.

3. The more you play against Gengar, the easier the match up becomes. People know to draw 1 with Lookers and cycle their Trainers with Claydol. Sure, cycling Trainers isn't ideal, but it doesn't matter so much of it means that your opponent can only hit for 0-30 damage per turn.

Gengar is a good deck, but there are plenty of counters and strategies to deal with it. Now that most people know them, it's simply harder to win with it.
