Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

Can Kingdra survive in this metagame???

Kingdra is still a good deck. My very first tournament (back from a 7-8 year retirement), it was everywhere. Here in Ontario, we are seeing only a few left, but they still are capable of taking on any match-up (whether in their favour or slightly out of their favour).

IMO, Blastcatty sets up in the same amount of time as Kingdra, and the two are really in the same boat - good decks to pull out when everyone focuses on beating SP decks.

Ok blastoise which needs at least 2 energies to do 30 or 40 damage and another stage 1 sets up at the same time as a stage 2 which needs only 1 energy?

Kingdra is faster and more consistent than BlastCatty .... but Catty can pull some amazing stuff when it does set up.

Personally I wouldn't run either if the meta is defined by power kill.

Yes. Unless they shut down powers, you can get a T1 donk with Blastoise. The setup is the same speed as Delcatty is not essential to the success of the deck, so ultimately in both decks you need a Stage 2 set up. If you run the same rush cards in both decks, they will have the same speed.

The difference is that Kingdra hits harder for the first few turns; Blastoise gets more and more powerful as the game goes on.

Kingdra more consistent? Maybe a little bit, but not by much. Faster? HA. Blastoise is WAY more consistent than people think. These are the people that either base decisions on bad builds or don't play the deck correctly. These same people told me I shouldn't play Uxie (or shouldn't play as many as Kingdra plays) when I posted my original Blastcatty build :)lol:).

The problem with BlastCatty is that, if it is kept under a power lock for more than a few turns, it loses. Period.
There's no way it can survive a good legos build. 4 Turns of mesprit lock, then 4 power spray is far too much, it's about auto-win for legos.

Mine survived 3 turns of Amphylock vs. a G deck (and I continued to not use powers for 2-3 turns after due to forgetting that I had killed Amphy). It can survive power lock for 4 turns. Don't forget that you have 130HP and 90HP (that heals 2 every turn) Pokemon. 4 turns for Blastcatty is np. Even if they kill 3 or so Pokemon that turn, the second Power Lock is over, you set up like CRAZY - remember, you get back ultimately 4 turns worth of energy if you lost them, throw out a blastoise tank and you're laughing.

The later the game lasts in Blastcatty, the more in your favour the game is.

Well, in T8 IL States I ended up facing a BlastCatty with Legos.
It wasn't pretty. They just couldn't set up. Power lock from turn one hurts a LOT. No uxie, claydol, etc. Then, continue to spray things until they are effectively decimated. Even if they start to make a comeback, you'll only have 1-2 prizes left, realistically. :\

I faced a lot of power locking - sure, it slowed the deck down A LOT, but it was nothing I couldn't sustain. The only thing that has effectively stopped my deck so far is Future Sight control with discard and a bad hand (it was actually really cool the way the player did it). Regardless, my Blastcatty deck (remember, there are different builds - some are quicker than others) took 2nd - it could have gone farther (possibly) if I wasn't outplayed by a great player (he did deserve the win based on skill).

Honestly, I took wins in games that I made game-changing mistakes in.

Anyways, back to the point - I haven't had massive problems with power locking yet, so until I do, I respectfully disagree.

Someone needs to take a chill pill stigma. its all good. just being humorous. to me Blastcatty isn't related to kingdra.

Well, it was spam. Spam is not humorous.
Blastcatty is related to kingdra in the fact that they're both energy-based decks, water, have about the same matchups, work somewhat similarly, etc. They both get SEVERELY hurt by power lock. Just replace "blastcatty" with "kingdra" if you must.

Future sight control sounds...interesting. Explain?

Basically the deck revolved (from what I remember) around Abomasnow/Cresselia X, discard with Exeggutor/Giratina X. It had some interesting strategies. It went something like this:

I messed up and decided to go first :(

Turn 1:
Play Squirtle w/ energy. Attack for 10.

His Turn 1:
Start Cresselia, play Giratina to shuffle my hand into my deck and draw 4. Play Galactic's Mars or something. Use Future Sight to adjust my top 5.

Turn 2:
Draw an energy (b/c of Future Sight) Play an energy and skitty. Attack for 20.

His Turn 2:
Play Mewtwo, Giratina X (w/ Level Max I think). Energy on Mewtwo. Future Sight his own deck.

Turn 3:
Draw a Squirtle (b/c of Future Sight)

This carried on for about 6 rounds, until I met my eventual demise.

I beat him first game, then lost 2nd game because I attacked Mewtwo X with Kyogre instead of retreating for a Blastoise that could have done some major damage. The above was our 3rd game. I have always been a better deckbuilder than a player - this was my first rated Pokemon tournament, so hopefully next time I'll reduce the number of mistakes I make. The deck itself; however, is pretty consistent and has great speed imo.

Wow...that's...an extremely good idea. o_o
