I get to Worlds and meet up with a few Canadian friends that made it out - Matt K, Curtis, Geneses, Juan, Adam, Bidier, Marv, Ethan and Tristan, Andrew, and a BC player - Bernie. We do quite a bit of testing leading up to Worlds (at this point I'm pretty confident with Horsemega w/ Noctowl and Absol techs), but after seeing the meta, we start talking about Reshiphlosion. Strangely enough, we all came with very similar Reshiphlosion lists (w/ Kingdra techs and Lost Remover). We do some testing, and that stomps everything, even though Matt K stomps everything I have with his anti-meta deck.

On the day of Grinders, a lot of our good players (the above, Zach L, Marcel, Dexter, Sebastian C, Andrew V, Gordon, Sam B) play but don't make it in, which is surprising, considering many of them have proven themselves numerous times. Aron from Alberta grinds in in Seniors. The meta looks to be Reshiphlosion, with some Magnezone/Yanmega and Stage 1s. This makes me nervous about Horsemega, so we do some additional testing that night. I end up going with Reshiphlosion the next day (with Kingdra, Lost Remover, and Research Record techs), and so do Adam and Curtis. I later find out that I didn't test enough with the list... I needed two more draw Supporters to increase consistency. I really feel that Geneses' Reshiphlosion was one of the best out there.

Game 1: vs. Nikola (Mewpluff/Yanmega/Magnezone)
I go first in this game, and get a ridiclous hand... Collector, Candy, Kingdra, Ninetales, and Energy. I set up T2, start Spray Splashing Magnezones to guarantee OHKOs, and end up winning the prize war 6-2.
1-0

Game 2: vs. Marco (Magneboar)
I go first again, and get a decent opening setup, but start drawing dead. He starts taking some costly KOs, and draws into most of his Junk Arms early. After he takes his 2nd last prize, he has 2 cards in his deck and is two energy short. No Retrieval or Fisherman for the win (I still have 3 prizes left at this point), so he scoops, in a game that he might have won on time if he slow-played. A class act opponent, and a good ambassador for Italy - I enjoyed this game greatly.
2-0

Game 3: vs. Alan K (Reshiphlosion)
Alan goes first, and it's kind of hilarious how we set up almost exactly the same every turn. He ran a high count of Rescues and Revives, and I only Lost Remover one of his Rescues. With no Reversals in my deck, I have no way of disrupting him, so he wins the prize race.
2-1

Game 4: vs. Lia (Reshiphlosion w/ Judges)
Lia comes to our regionals sometimes, and does pretty well with rogue decks. As soon as I saw Reshiphlosion I knew that something was up. Sure enough, she hits my hand with a Judge, and another. I later see that she runs a high count of Stantlers. I was really impressed with her variant, and it did pretty well, but I took the win in a close prize race.
3-1

Game 5: vs. Matt (Stage 1s)
I go first in this game, and get a pretty early setup. He reversals up a Ninetales and takes it out. At one point in the game, I get a prize card penalty for a reversable mistake. The game ends with his 1 prize to my two on his turn, because whatever way I played it the previous turn, he would have the KO. He had a pretty consistent Stage 1 deck - I was impressed.
3-2

Game 6: vs. Elton (Reshiphlosion)
This game goes similarly to Alan's, except I go first. Elton and Alan are friends from California that both grinded in. Elton gets some unlucky Sage's whiffs, and I'm able to set up faster than him for the win in the prize race.
4-2

Game 7: vs. Miska (Reshiphlosion)
We start the game by him refusing to use my dice (which are clear and legal). I kind of shrugged it off, so we used his dice, and he got a bunch of flips he needed. I also whiff on 2 Pokegears, with three PONT's left over at the end of the game. He didn't seem very excited about his win, and didn't seem interested in making any sort of conversation with me either. Then again, it might have been language barrier, so I apologize if it is.
4-3

I end up 39th, which is out of prizes, but the qualifier package was great, so overall I was still pretty happy. Also, considering it was my first Worlds, 4-3 isn't too bad, even though I had hoped to do better. The ********** open was that night, and that was probably the most fun I've had in three hours. If John runs it again next year, I strongly encourage anyone interested to try it out.

Props:
-Terry for the Trip!!! I had a blast... THANKS!!!
-Matt, Curtis, Geneses, Juan, Adam, Bidier, Bernie, Marv, Andrew E for helping me test
-Dakota, Winston, and Troy for being there (in spirit)
-Marv for the Team Canada Shirt
-Dexter, Andrew, Sebastian, Gordon, Sam, Zach, Jacob
-Marcel for some hilarious jokes in French and/or Monika Lewinski related ;)
-Aron and his mother for helping with the Vulpixes
-Simon, Edward, Charles
-Carlos and Xander for offering to lend me cards, and for the games
-The PTO from North Carolina (I apologize for forgetting your name) - it was really nice meeting you, and I hope to play in one of your events in the future
-FFA in the pre-release (Lia and Arne rock!)
-Mary Jane's for being the best restaurant I've been to in a LONG time (on 5th Ave.)
-The other Canadian dude and his wife that repped the ********** Open :)
-The Hong Kong National Champs (Juniors and Masters) for the games... otherwise it would've been a boring wait at the airport
-The Japanese deckbox lady
-The stage crew - I met a few of you, you guys did a great job and deserve some credit
-Most of the judges (British judge, Ohio judges, the one that made cracks about me calling heads in English particularly)
-Tepig and Pikachu, for leading a dance dance revolution
-Kevin, Brit, John, MOP, Justin, Rew (we all know we love Rew), Thoy, and the other cool people from HT
-My opponents from games 1 through 6
-Ross for taking 2nd with a sick rogue
-Research Record

Slops:
-LCQ format - it was saddening even from the sidelines to see people get knocked out
-No sleep which forced me to fall asleep during games, which forced me to get Starbucks, which forced me into debt :( j/k, sort of
-I wanted to get to know the rest of the judges/organizers better, but they were pretty much always busy at the events
-Reshiphlosion for being pretty boring for the format and auto-play for the most part

If I missed anyone, be sure to call me out on it. I forget a lot.

You forgot to give me props for that time where I wished you good luck, and uhhhh okay nevermind =D

Anyways, good show at worlds, tis a shame you wiffed on the t32, but hey, you've done better then most easterners do at worlds ;-)

Nice job man not bad at all for your first worlds buddy, I was there in spirit cheering you on : ), you've had a heck of a season and you make me proud bro

I really feel that Geneses' Reshiphlosion was one of the best out there.

Actually, because the 's' at the end of 'Geneses' is not part of a pluralisation, so the correct possessive tense would be Geneses's.

LOL JK

Great job man! You're an amazing player and an amazing deckbuilder. It sucks that you didn't win THIS year, but you definitely have 2012 locked up. :thumb:

As long as you play Ambipom/Weavile. :p

BOOYAH!

Too kind! Glad you enjoyed our game, I did as well. You played well and were the legitimate winner, I didn't even consider stalling as an option. Plus, you had a very good fake Italian accent! ;P

Sorry we didn't have the right Vulpixes either! But it was great running into you several times all weekend. Looking forward to the next time.

Vegitilian, I know EXACTLY what you meant when you put research records in Bold/Caps.

It really is a broken card in reshiphlosion and makes your consistency go through the roof.

Sages + RR = potential 9 card access
Juniper + RR = potential 11 card access

as we get cards like cheren and bianca, I am betting Research Record will start getting mainstream attention.

Good read!

Great job bro! I was cheering for you from a distance :D
You have had an amazing season, and i can see you doing even better next year! You are an amazing player/deck builder!

'but hey, you've done better then most easterners do at worlds'

P.S. You gotta admit The real Canadian maple syrup is the crem! Sure its a bit pricey But man its worth it!

Great meeting you Reed, and a good freshman outing at this year's Worlds. Glad to see you at the Hey Trainer Open, as well. :D

P.S. Murray and Jasmine, sorry about the inevitable fate of your donation! An even "50/50 split" is what the players wanted, so...I made it happen, lol.
