Carnival Rides?

Hey, just some food for thought. I was at a fair the other day and one of the rides started smoking, and I made a joke about "Carnies" to my friends, to which he replied, "That's why I don't go on Carnival rides, on average 4 to 5 people die a year from theme park ride-related accidents, with over 90% of them being from place-to-place carnivals." I said "No way" but later researched it to find that it is more or less true. I love rides, but because they are put up by teenagers, didn't like the idea of going on carnival rides anyway, but MAN, that's just scary! What do you guys think of this and how they could increase safety? Had any scary experiences at a carnival? Discuss.

Only 4 to 5? With those numbers, you should be more fearful of cars and airplanes. Then again, anything can happen. Just saying :)

For me, carnivals just aren't fun. I don't enjoy being hung upsidedown and then being sped along a rail at 30 miles per hour... just doesn't sound appealing to me.

What's especially troublesome about carnivals is that there are very few safety standards. Basically, the only standards are that the ride can consistently finish each ride, and it has SOME FORM of an escape route. I enjoy having some form of safety. The metal they use can be discounted or old. This is further troubling because of carnivals' business models. Keeping everything new and up-to-date would send a carnival bankrupt. That is not very good...

Not always are they put up by teenagers. Drunk men do it too. But yeah, once one of those showed up in the Grocery Outlet parking lot and I went on the spinning ride where you get in this seated area around a platform that you spin. There was some other kid's dad in there doing all the spinning and we went FAST. And then our strawberry pod thing almost lurched off the hinges. Crazy dad stopped spinning, but nobody stopped the ride, just asked us if we were okay when we got out.
