Changing the location of Nationals

I wouldn't be going to Nats if it wasn't held at Origins. Not everyone is so interested in Pokemon. But having all kinds of games at the event, and a lot of stuff to do (along with Pokemon) make it a good trip. I'd guarantee that you'd lose people if you moved it from Origins.

I've never been to Worlds before, but of what I've seen of Pokemon Rocks America and Nats, a pokemon event by itself can get quite boring. I feel many people would just go back to their rooms and watch tv and play pokemon there or something (or hang out at the pool and go swimming [i <3 swimming]).
I agree. A lot of us would bring other popular games to play, like the Looney Labs games. It'd end up being a Pokemon event hosting various other games, like Fluxx, AYAW, Anachronsim, YGO. And that defeats the purpose of moving it away from Origins. Anyone up for a POP sanctioned YGO tournament? If moved away from Origins, would we still have the vendors? Origins is also a time for a lot of us to pick up items we can't normally find easily. Pokemon would be missing out on a lot by taking it away from Origins.

I think origins is a failing convention as evident of WOTC, Wizkids, and Upperdeck's absence last year. That and the rising cost of the badge is getting ridiculous. It is my personal opinion that pokemon could be a stand alone event. Obviously this is going to have a huge cost for them, but look at what they are spending already. I think to make it as fair as possible for the entire country you can't really throw it somewhere like SDCC or New York or Florida because many people would be forced to fly in to attend, which would cut player attendance. Central cities would be best, St. Louis, Indianapolis, or Chicago.

I totally agree.

It sounds like from these posts the reason Pokemon Nationals is a hit for many may have nothing to do with pokemon itself  Its like going to a movie, but the reason your there is not entirely to watch the film. Instead, its more of a way to indulge in goodies like popcorn and pretzels you normally can't get ahold of at home.

the good part about it being at origins is that its not exactly "too far" for anyone. if it was held at the san diego comic-con, think of how much it would cost for someone on the east coast to fly out there. i feel the same if it was held on the east coast--it isn't fair to the west coast players.

I'm on the west coast.

If Nationals was in New York, it would not be any harder for me to get there.

Everyone who's suggesting spots are worthless. You all want it near YOU.

In that case, Nats should be at the Portland Convention Center, which is 10 miles from my house.

The obvious answer is to break Nationals up into multiple tournaments that are held at different locations around the Nation. They'd be called....uh...Mini-Nationals! That's the ticket!

Washington state is about as far from most people as you can get. It should stay on the east coast, since that is where the largest portion of the US population lives. Personally I would like it to be in D.C. or Baltimore.
And pokemon certainly can afford to pay for a convetion center. Nintendo's profits for the first quarter of 2007 were 1.44 BILLION!!!!! Those are the PROFITS, not revenues. I am sure out of the 5.76 billion they are on track to make this year some of it could go to renting a convention center.

Worlds 02 was at the Seattle Convention center not attached to a hotel or anything. 04,05,06,07 are all along with hotels.

What about Gen-Con? You got 3 attached hotels and many more in the city. Another Central location not too far like Ben said.

The only people that want Nationals away from Origins are A: The people who have never been to Origins and seen everything there is to do and experience there. Or B: Just want to spend less money. Sure, money is a factor. But didn't your parents ever teach you to save up for the things you wanted?

Having it at Origins is fine. The vendor hall was absolutly amazing last year, and i've got no doubts that it's going to be a blast this year too. Origins is half the fun IMO.

Plus, as stated before, it gets the game out there to other people. I volunteered to help demo last year, and quite a few people were interested in the game. I think it's a great thing to hold it at such a large scale gaming event.

I'm very sure I don't qualify for either A or B, so I must be C: One who wants a little change once in a while.
I'd accept Gencon Indy since I've never been there myself and think it's possibly the #2 choice POP/PUI would use anyway.

Could you talk to them about moving it to a date that is before Worlds?

I like that Origins is known years in advance and can be planned for over the whole year. Last year was my first year and we went and visited someone after we left. This year going to go to the Great Lakes. Next year will probably be different again and already planning it.

Although I admit it was an error I said Indy, I'll leave it up there anyway. The day/s before worlds would be a true test of skill since if the Japanese can do it, why can't we? I can dream can't I?

I have no problem with Origins, I really enjoy it. Actually, three of my friends wouldn't have gone if there weren't other gamer related things there to do; that's how I convinced them to come along this year.

and I suppose you consider the Mississippi as running stright through the middle..

It's purely for advertisement as 'Mom noted.

Origins serves as a huge advertisement for CCG's. So POP can spread the game to other gamers via sealed deck tournaments, league, demoing, etc. Which in return brings more revenue.

Columbus is in the heart of the country so really it would be unfair to have it on the East or West Coast.

Attendence wise, Rockford, Illinois is the place it should be at! There's probably some large convention center nearby or maybe somewhere a little out of Rockford like the Sears Centre or The Dells.

It's gonna be in Columbus for a while.

World's should be at the Worlds fair IMO.

...oF the USA as well. If you actually belive that Ohio is in the heart of the county, I would love to co-purchase a winning $1,000,000 lottery ticket with you becuase you would be happy if your half was $300,000.

Ohio is not in the heart of the county, it is not convenient at all for us here on the west coast. The cost for airfair to Ohio was almost the same as our airfair to Hawaii so of course we chose Worlds over Nationals. If Pokemon wanted an actual central location then Nationals would be held in Nebraska or Kansas.

Would Kansas or Nebraska be convenient for people on the west coast either?

Guess some people think flying the only option. I have rode Greyhound before and might not have been my favorite but I do know that it is affordable.

Kansas and Nebraska would cost more to fly to as they do not have major hubs for airports. The small routs have to go into big hubs then a connection so you could actually have longer flight time and more costs. Not that this is written in stone. Some of you might find a rare airfare to prove me wrong. So come to D/FW where we have mAjor resort hotels , Convention halls and this little airport that serves most of the World.

This thread is a sad example of how people think.

50 of the past posts have been, "Nats should be near ME!!!", and the other 9ish have been reasonable arguments for the location of US Nationals, which got overwhelmed and ignored due to being overrun by the excessive amount of spam.

What rediculous tripe.
