Cheapest Deck

Which commonly-used deck archetype (DialgaChomp, VileGar, Donphan variants, other SP deck, etc.) would cost the least to purchase the individual cards for? (Assuming all cards go for standard prices and all are available.)

Well lets take a look at this based on recent Ebay auctions. Those prices will fluctuate, but relative to each other should stay roughly the same until the next set is released.

SP Engine
---
4x Cyrus Conspiracy - $20
4x Poke Turn - $25
4x Energy Gain - $10
4x SP Radar - $8
4x Power Spray - $5
---
Total: $68

Now, I know that you wouldn't actually run 4 of everything in an SP deck, but you would want a full set just in case. This doesn't take into consideration the pokemon that you'd need to run. So we'll just grab a couple of prices of the main ones played.

Luxray GL - $5
Luxray GL Lv. X - $60 (To get one immediately or consistently it will be a bit more then this, but we'll lowball it)
Garchomp C - $5
Garchomp C Lv X - $5
Dialga G - $2 (Most leagues will have this as a free promo still.)
Dialga G Lv X - $25
Promocroak - $15
Uxie Lv X - $70 (Honestly is used in most decks, but almost required in SP decks.)

Verdict: A cheap SP deck, settling for alternatives and making creative choices will still run almost $150. LuxChomp is in the $350 range...

In my opinion, the best thing to do is buy a box or two of boosters then choose something you'd be interested in playing and trading whatever you're not going to use for things you are. That's how I've gotten back into the game. If you're looking to just buy a deck and be done, Pokemon isn't necessarily the game for you. ^_^

^ Highly amusing but Dialga G Lv.X has been around the $25 mark for a while now. The highest I've seen on Ebay has been Around $40ish.

Cheap SP deck.... Probably Sablock, BlazeChomp or DialgaChomp (might be pushing it). Garchomp C Lv.X is another card that's been insanely cheap, though it was released as a tin promo.

Basing all this off eBay completed auctions . . .

DGX goes for $20-25. Price is probably only going up from now on.

Blaziken X goes for around $12-14, but then you can expect to pay $5 for the Basic as it wasn't a League Promo.

So I reckon a 3-1 line would probably be around the same cost.

The biggest problem with making a "cheap" SP deck is the $70 engine.

BlazeChomp is probably the cheapest one simply because you should be able to trade for the cards without much issue. Nobody in my area is planning on trading Dialga Lv X to me... I already checked. >_<

Stating the obvious here, any deck that performs very well with good consistency is likely to become more popular than it previously was. People will learn about the popular deck, and want to try it out for themselves, netdecking or otherwise. The cards in that deck, be they expensive or not, will experience a rise in desirability. A greater demand on an existing supply will increase its perceived value. This rise will cause sellers to expect prices to increase, and as such, they may decrease the quantity currently supplied at a given price in order to be able to supply more when the price increases.

Poketurn is going for $10 each!!!??????

WHAT THE HECK!? When did THAT happen? I have a bunch of them just lying around.... good grief..... I didn't know they were in demand quite that much.

Maybe I should start buying boxes of platinum...

you could always play arceus.

Most people trade the cards instantly if you say you want them so getting them should be a peice of cake.
