Chibi's First Battle Roads Report [ 5W - 1L ]

2 Battle Roads come and gone and my last one is here in Brooklyn, NY! I have to do well, I’ve been testing with this deck (Tank & Swap aka Ross’s deck) for awhile now and I feel pretty comfortable with it. So I decided to cosplay at this Battle Roads, as a member of Organization XIII from Kingdom Hearts with my Leather Organization XIII outfit. 80-something degree, no problem, I’m ready to play.

Round 1;
Vs Christopher M – Running; Scizor/Zoroark/Electrode

I got a preview of this deck the day beforehand while watching some playtest games at the local hangout. So I knew somewhat what the plan might be. Once he got that first Scizor set up, I knew my Dragons (Reshiram/Zekrom) where basically useless, because they rely on Double Colorless Energy. I had to sacrifice them so I can set up a trainer lock and power up my Donphan's. He gets the prize lead and the twins assist in my catch up. Once I establish a trainer lock and have enough HP room on my bench, I can began the attack. I start stacking and moving damage while using Donphan to hit hard and tank. His remaining Scizor is Prized and it just comes down to a stall tactic. Down to one prize a piece I take the last prize as his flip on Scyther's Aftermath Strike fails him.

Heat slowly setting in... but must represent the Organization...

Round 2;
Vs Christopher L – Running; ZPST

The advantage goes to my deck, but this deck has a tendency to get the opponent the advantage. We both set up but I get the trainer lock and send out the Donphan, rinse and repeat. Tornadus took out one of my Donphan's but another took its place. Taking the lead he tries his best to come up, but I have the set up and the bench to back it up. Each turn is another prize, it hurts to beat a friend but we both knew coming into this match one of us had to lose.

I know it's 85 degrees out guys... I'm not taking off the Outfit...

Round 3;
Vs Dan L – Running; Donphan & Dragons?

Getting to the big leagues now. Facing a seasoned player, whom I yet to defeat I'll have to play as best as I can. I go first and Collector into 2 Oddish's and a Solosis to add to my other already sitting on the bench. With a Phanpy active with two candies Vileplume, Reuniclus, Prof. Elms and energy in my hand i pass. He starts his set up, but I take the advantage pretty quickly, surprise. He takes 1-2 prizes while I take all 6 before time.

IT'S LUNCH TIME!!! AND I'M STILL ALIVE IN THIS OUTFIT!

My group goes to McDonalds and eat some heart attacks on buns~ Yummy Yummy!! Taking about Pokemon other content takes the stress off the tournament. Do some trades; buy some cards and blah blah blah, my heart pounds as I see the next pairing go up. I put my hood and sit at my table.

Round 4;
Vs Sam C. – Running; Reshiram/Typhlosion

Vileplume my best friend <3 I set it out my 2 or 3 turn which slows his set up. Donphan attacks and my Supporters seem to fuel my decks needs. Once I take damage I just move it away and after a long battle I take my remaining prizes. I don't like Reshiphlosion match-ups, a too consistent deck. I'm glad I was able to take the advantage.

4 - 0

I think I've brought 2 - 3 Fanta's. It getting hot in this thing... but everyone says it good luck so i will continue wearing it!!

Round 5;
Vs Jeffery S. – Running; Reshiram/Typhlosion

FFFFFF-- Again... Didn't I just say I don't like my matchups with this deck? We both start off slowly and I can't get the trainer lock fast enough. He takes a few prizes and I try and make a comeback. Strategies and clever plays seem to be frequent and it comes down to one prize each. It’s my Donphan against his Typhlosion, he attacks and it doesn’t knock him out. I swap Donphan for Reshiram and move enough damage to knock it out.

5 – 0

Heat Stroke, nah. Good Luck fills this hoodie. I may top, for the first time.. since I’ve been playing this game starting back in 2008. I can do this, all my friends are cheering for me, today is a day for underdogs, I’ve got this.

Round 6 – Final Round of Swiss
Vs Frankie D. – Running; Reshiram/Typhlosion

Everything fell apart. I couldn’t get my trainer lock, and he knocks out both my Oddish’s. There goes that plan, I try and stall with the Dragons but I roll tails on burn at the wrong time. He’s got three Typhlosion’s already and had energy in the discard. I can’t comeback and it’s too far gone. He takes all 6 prizes and I take 0. I did my best, no regrets.

5 – 1

The best record I’ve had in a tournament since I have been playing back in 2008. I’m impressed with myself. I wait for the ending of swiss result and once they get posted I rush over. To my dismay I have taken 6th place. SIXTH PLACE!! WHY!!! I run outside and shout various expletives into the air in an all caps rage and take a breather walk around the block. Sighing in disappointment I return to the store and meet back with my friends grab my gear and take a saddening 2 hour train ride home.

No Victory Medal, no extra rounds of top, just Swiss, my Autumn Battle Roads journey has reached it end. In total combined my Nanuet, NY Battle Roads and my Cedar Grove, NJ Battle Roads I’ve played a total of 19 games winning 10 and losing 9. Coming out positive is really great… IF P!P still went by rankings and not Championship Points. So basically I’ve gone nowhere with these 2 months. Until Cities and Autumn Regionals!!

Thanks for reading~
Chibi.

Thats amazing that you went 5-1, but sucks you took 6th instead of 2nd or 3rd. Btw do you mind pming where you bought your Organization XIII jacket from? I really would like to get one. Again great job its better than my record right now which s 0-0. :thumb:

Anthony,

I couldn't believe you didn't make the top cut as well--I was in shock.

You did a fantastic job at Battle Roads! I know we will battle again--it will be me against you for the Regional Championship title:thumb:

How did you go 5-1 and not make top? How many players were there? That's just ridiculous, especially after all you went through with your costume lol.

Anyways, good luck, and keep winning!

Just gonna say, under the old system you wouldnt really be anywhere either with a 10-9 record.

GJ going 5-1 but bubbling out just plain sucks. Especially since your loss came in the final round.

I was surprised that you didn't make top cut... you impressed me that Battle Roads and it's evident that you're getting better every single day.

Good luck at any future Battle Roads and Regionals!!! :)
