Cinccino VS. Rayquaza

If Rayquaza (DRX #128) Uses "Shred" On Cinncino (NXD #085), would the player with Cinncino have the chance to use their "Smooth Coat" ability? Or would Shred ignore this?

They would use their Ability (it's not optional), but then Shred would ignore the result and do the damage either way.
