Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

Cities Hype Thread

For my sake...I wish gigas would stay under teh radar as a less popular choice...I like being the only gigas in teh pacific nw...

Other than that it has tough matchups to gengar and machamp but other than that you're golden. I'm getting annoyed at all the noob lists I see runing 4 junk arm/ twins/ black belt/ etc, but to each his own and people will figure out how bad their numbers are soon enough.

All the same, I know what I'll be playing this seaosn...

3 people in Seniors are going to dominate every Cities?

They're going to be very busy.

On topic . . .

No Lost World + Junk Arm + Rescue Energy = Gyarados looking tier 1 again.

Twins gives set up decks a boost

SP isn't going anywhere, but will probably find things a bit tougher.

Machamp Prime is going to get a fair bit of play.

LOL.

im playing it so i think it should be 4 seniors.

There's slow, then there's a month long period of thousands of tournaments. Dialga is good, don't get me wrong, but Beedrill didn't dominate all BRs after Worlds 09, nor did Flychamp. Luxchomp still has some things going for it that keep it alive and will probably continue to give it an edge in terms of top cut/win percentage over Dialga. Sorry.

I'm not denying that Luxchomp still has things going for it, but GengarPlume and the lack of Claydol have made Dialga a more viable partner than Luxray in many cases (many more than the past format).

I agree. People love to ignore all the non SP stuff for their argument that SP is ruining the format and is the only thing that wins.

NO: SP is NOT the only thing that's winning.

YES: there are plenty of non SP decks that are winning.

YES: you only hate it because your silly little pet deck wont work in the current format.

DarthPika.. you're still around ?! Cool  and.. HI

Careful not to post in a way that it looks like you're 'attacking' someone though. That last comment could be viewed as you gettin' a direct shot at the guy.

ANYWAY ...

I LLLLOOOOVVVVVEE the Post-Triumphant format. OMG@ the number of things you can do when you add Triumphant to modified.

I think that we'll find out who the really GOOD players are. You'll need to navigate a truly random format (now that the lost zone stadium is NOT here) and you never know what you're about to face until the cards turn over (provided people don't just NET-DECK every front article deck they see and actually practice a little... )

I can't wait for the first weekend of CCs. The "what won" thread is going to be so random & hilarious.

It's going to be fun for those who enjoy the game; it may not be fun for uber-competive people who NEED to feel dominant and in control.

This format gives you a low level of control of your meta. If you're not surrounded by copycats (no pun intended) in your meta, then prepare to face just about ANYTHING....

Expect to see...

  • TTar ...
  • Machamp...
  • Donphan...
  • Regigias
  • SPs .. (BLG , LuxChomp, DialgaChomp)
  • Jumpluff (oh yes, it's an easy out for those who don't have time to be creative!)
  • Yanmega PRIME ...
  • Steelix
  • Gyarados
  • Sabeleye Donk (has more options now .. .look out!)
  • Gengar Experiements (as there will be many who try to get this to work)
  • Arceus

Then... there's the crazy lower tier decks that catch you off guard like:

  1. Gliscor
  2. Omastar / Kabutops
  3. AMU (why not ? LOLz)
  4. Flygon + anything
  5. Shiftry (there seems to be one popping up every now and then)
  6. Drapion ( see "shiftry" comment)
  7. Bellawsome (this can catch you offguard )
  8. Leafeon (miasma wind - special conditions abuse decks)
  9. Cradilly ( yep... I said it... )
  10. Disruption Decks ( so many attempts to name )
  11. Trainer Lock Decks ( again... too many being tinkered with to name...)
  12. Glaceon LvX lock (yes. it'll pop up SOMEWHERE ... by someone who doesn't understand how bad 70 damage is... )
  13. Umbreon + whatever ...

The potential to be caught off-guard with something you weren't expecting is VERY probably for one major reason: NO MORE UNOWN G

A random Crobat Prime tech can ruin your day and set up some nastiness

There's NO WAY you can build a format breaker now. You need to build something consistent and just... play! I LOVE IT!

@OP
I hope your not serious, Gengar/Vileplume WONT be BDIF, and it definately doesn't auto-win Gyarados.
And it still losses to dialgachomp, 80-20 dialga's favor.

Palkia Lock will abuse Seeker to pick up Mespirits at will prolonging the lock until mid game. This will destroy Luxchomp and no Fainting Spell for Gengar, if you can even get one out. Oh yes, and if Gengar uses Hunter against it, what do you think it will pick up?

Gengar still gets to use fainting spell. No power locking blocks Fainting Spell.

@ RA, ya I'm still around. Been busy with college with little time for pokemon. lol Couldn't resist getting into the game just in time for some pre CC hype!

Point well taken. :p

Hmm, well, I'd like to hype about Wailord. I think this guy is actually going to be a very decent deck. run a 4-4 line of that bad boy, and your opponent has to deal with 720Hp heading it's way to Swallow Up ftw.

And it has its fellow accelerator Feraligator to help it out :D

Gengar autowins Gyarados
Vileplume + _________ autowins Gyarados
Gengar + Vileplume = Mega autowin vs Gyarados.

  • Poltergeist for 300
  • Shadow Room targets include Uxie, Azelf, Regice, Crobat G, Lunatone (in some builds), and more.
  • No expert belt means that you're swinging for 90, not 110.
  • Gengar Prime says hi to any Magikarps that are still in your hand, now you 3HKO Gengar Prime.

Need I say more?

Luxchomp of course has the #1 status going for it, but Gyarados and Regigigas definitely have suped up power thanks to the magic of Junk Arm. Regigigas even has Twins abuse going on thanks to Sacrifice, though I'm not sure how much more Black Belt would add since with Expert Belt it already OHKOs the majority of SP Pokemon (and you don't want to OHKO Gengar with it since that's asking for trouble with its effect). As for Gengar, shame Lost World isn't in the set, Prime misses it badly...

Lol...hate people like this. Reminds me of when people love a small band, but when they get big, you get mad because you were selfish and wanted them all to yourself.

What a selfish comment. You would think actually repping the deck and it getting bigger would be an ACCOMPLISHMENT after your success.

Still doesn't stop the fact Gigas is a near auto-loss to Machamp thanks to both Weakness and its Basic status...even Uxie Lv X can't OHKO a Machamp unless you really want to sacrifice one with an Expert Belt on it. And Machamp arguably runs through SP decks easier than Gigas.

Most decks have an easier out against machamp thanks to rescue energy. Being able to get that Uxie X back up and swinging is great, even if it is at the expense of attaching a DCE and attacking one turn earlier.

Rescue Energy and seeker+combee

    crobat
  • Gengar Prime says hi to any Magikarps that are still in your hand, now you 3HKO Gengar Prime.
Because clearly a gyarados player was dumb enough to leave magicarps in my hand

Need I say more?

Yes, you do. Everything you mentioned can be played around. That is why gengarplume makes top cut so often, be relatively rarely wins. Good players can easily play around it.
