city medals

Well, my son won 10 City Championships, yes 10 not 1 or 2 or 3....10! And the newspapers and television stations are waiting for us to get the medals!!

My son worked very hard, as I am sure every player has....I have spent a ton of money traveling on cards, hotel, food and gas.....just want the medals promised by Pokemon 'before' States. I am sure I'm not the only one wondering what could possibly be taking this long.

Who "promised" them to you before States?? The PTO running the event? Unless you got word from PUI brass (read Mike, Pete and Dave) on the anticipated date of delivery, take the rest with a grain of salt. PUI will not use subpar products as their prizes. The original medals were of poor quality. They rejected them and demanded a remake. Once the company gets them made to PUI's satisfaction, then you will get them. As long as your PTO did their job by sending in contact info (addys, etc), then you will get yours when they are ready.

Really folks, as Ryan stated, the medal is to recognize the past achievement. You still WON and everyone that was there knows that already.

Really, what is your kid gonna do with 10 medals? Go as Mr T to States?? As a HJ for multiple States and Nats last year in the JR division, I would not allow a player to wear 10 medals to the table to play their matches. That would be a form of intimidation, IMO. You want to wear them when you show up, or during breaks...OK. Just not to the tables. EDIT: Wear one to the table.....thats good with me.

Keith

PS Of course, wearing all those medals can be a form of bragging too. My son faced a player this year that "bragged" his deck was 62-3 in santioned play (up to that time). Made my son even hungrier to beat it, which he did 2 days in a row!

I will give the ray of hope here.

I have a feeling that they are gearing up to ship the medals, in that I got an e-mail from PUI this week following up on some of my submitted info for the Medal Winners.

That e-mail led me to believe that they are gearing up for shipments!

Can't tell you when, but I found that to be a REAL encouragement!

My kids are wondering about theirs as well.

Oh, and congrats to the kid who won 10 medals. You show up at one of my events with 10 around your neck, we are going to have some fun with pictures! I'll sit him next to the kid with 3 Nationals Trophies, and another kid with 10 Regionals Trophies and we will have some real fun!!

Problem is, I would never reccomend wearing the medals for an extended period, because if history is ANY indication, they will fall off!!! Be careful!

That is quite an accomplishment in any season! Best of luck in States and beyond!

That is ridiculous....of course we were not planning on 'wearing' them to States....meaning we were supposed to be in our newspapers and on tv 'before' states....they want the medals to show!!

And....

"The medals were defective. We have to make new ones. That is normally a 10 to 12 week process. We hope to cut that down and start shipping at the end of February.

Pete De Shaw
Pokemon Organized Play"

was where I got my information from....thank you very much.

Ok so "hopefully cutting that down." Doesnt mean they "DID" cut that down. It means they hoped to make it less than the time Pete had quoted. He also said that if the time was cut down, they would be shipped by the end of Feb. He didnt say shipped to everyones door. We are only 2 days removed from the end of Feb, and if shipped meant from manufacturer in China or wherever, they may be on their way to PUI offices or warehouses or whatever right now.

My question to all that are getting medals; and this includes us; is would you rather have them really fast, or really good?

Up to you, but I can tell you that PUI is going to want each winner to have the best medal possible and, to be honest, complaining about it isnt going to make the fed ex guy fly, drive, or walk any faster.

Is it too much to ask for both?

I'd rather have something I can hang on my trophy that isn't going to break and might possibly knock it down just by hanging.

I dont think this is a case of complaining but, anticipation. Everyday, I look for my medals in the mail, same with my brother, and we just can't wait. I can't wait to hang up my new CC medals with all of my other CC medals, it would be cool to see them all as a whole.

And I totally agree. Adding another medal to the trophy case is gonna be great. And everyone that is getting medals should be very proud to have them, display them, waer them, whatever. All I am saying is I dont think anyone would want the medals from this year be in their collection and have someone say, :" eewww, what happen to the 2008-09 medals? Why do they look so bad compared to the others?"
I can honestly and comfortably state my reputation as a PTO, league leader, player, and parent that unless the boat they are being shipped on sinks, or some other catastrophy happens, the medals wil be here asap and of a quality that PUI will be proud to hand out and that each and every winner will be proud to show off.

10 Regionals Trophies? That is a lot I don't care who you are. I can deal with 3 Nationals trophies, but 10 Regionals trophies is insane.

What's the rush anyways? It's a medal. It's supposed to sit and act as a monument to an achievement. Getting it a few months later doesn't change its purpose or anything. Just be patient. This is a blanket statement, as I have seen many people get touchy and impatient when there is no reason to.
:nonono:
Like said already, newspapers are waiting to report on CC champions and they would have a better picture with the medals in hand. Better that this be done in the context of the moment instead of after states. Losing publicity here. Advertising for this game is bad as it is, if you haven't noticed. Also, some people get things like medals put in shadow boxes at custom framing places like Michaels Arts and Crafts. You cannot do this without the medal due to the uniqueness of colors and size. While waiting, that person is missing discounts that occur on custom framing. Not to say that those discounts won't come up again, but it's inconvienent to wait for the next one, especially since those discounts draw a big crowd.

Is it too much to ask for both?
maybe *shrugs*.
I applaud PUI for rejecting defective medals and asking for a remake though. Better to play it that way than to give out defective medals and later have to make excuses for them, in my opinion.

Lets see.....end of Feb was Saturday. No mail runs on Sunday. I would imagine that if they were received on schedule, then medals will start popping up in the mail in a few days. Of course, PUI brass dont have anything else coming up to ship out for right now?? coughcoughSTPscoughcough

I understand that your son worked hard, but this is not PUI's fault. The factory had a mistake, is correcting it, and they are awaiting the fixed shipment. It takes time to you know, make them and all.

It's not like they are hoarding them. It's been only 4-5 months. Imagine if it takes this sort of process 6 months or so, how could they possibly make it go faster?

That's great that your son won 10 CCs (where?), but where did PUI promise that medals would be delivered before States?

That message was an optimistic hope to BEGIN the delivering process by the end of February, or last week. Okay, so they, ideally, would begin shipping last week. =\

It hasn't been 4-5 months either. PUI was not going to mail out medals until all the CCs were done. That was in mid/late January. So, it has been 4-6 weeks since the last CC. They still have to get the correctly made medals from the makers and go from there.

Again, without any inside info here, I would guess we are getting very close to the medals being shipped out. IF there was another problem from the manufacturer, then I'm sure PUI would make an announcement. Be patient folks.

Mate. Are you looking to sell some of the medals to cover your expenses? Just curious. I'm sure you'll still be able to find buyers even if they come out later.
Cheers

i've been given permission by OP to say that the medals are starting to go out now...
