Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

Comments: Skewed

Okay, round 1 of Miku vs. Sakaki is up. Machamp vs. Noctowl.

Also, I noticed I'm getting a little mixed up in continuity as far as the period of time this is. This story is taking place in approximately 2430 A.D. or so, four hundred years in the future, as I originally stated. Not 200 years as I stated in the last update when Mewtwo and Sabrina are talking. After I fix this in my WordPerfect master I'll fix it in the topic.

I really got to get out of this only posting once a month thing.

With that one, Chapter 4 is over.

EDIT: Whoops! Made some name corrections earlier in the story that I missed and screwed up. :thumb:

Okay now that I've quit my job, I have more free time. So I should be done with this posting-only-once-a-month thing. -_-

I'll be in Denver for the next week. If I can find some sort of wireless hotspot then I'll be able to update the story from my notebook while I'm there, if not I'll update once I get back

yeah it's been almost a month. took a break from it for a while to do some other things. after all I'm entitled to do that, since it is the beginning of a new arc :p

more to come!

sorry I haven't posted anything most of September, I've been busy looking for a new job and making sure I had money to cover my bills for at least this month.

also, this will probably be my only Skewed update for the month of October. I started a ghost story last October but never got it finished, and I'm gonna try to finish it this year.

I apologize for taking so long since October ended to update. I developed some computer problems right before halloween (its a curse i have, i always get computer problems every other halloween), and didn't get them all taken care of completely until a couple days ago.

back to updating fairly often now.

i love the changes to the postnig box in VB 3.5, they allow use of the standard keyboard shortcuts (Ctrl-I, Ctrl-B, Ctrl-U) for formatting, which makes this a LOT easier to work with

sorry no updates in a while, i got and then subsequently lost again a job (company got bought and had to move somewhere I cant feasably travel to  ). im gonna officially put this on "updated whenever" status, so you may get updates sometimes days in a row or sometimes may go a while, depending when I feel like writing in this particular story (ive got like 3 or 4 stories im actively writing in right now) :thumb:

long time since i last updated, I know. well over a month. I've been busy with things, and had written all but the last section of this update a while ago actually, just needed to get the last part done

I decided to bump the comment thread as well with this update, because I wanted to make a comment on something particular. the last part, Maxie vs. Ian Soul Calibur style (i cant get away with having maxie fight without giving him Maxi's style in Soul Caliber :p ), I had actually written a while ago. a LONG while ago. this was actually one of the very first things I wrote for this story. I hand wrote it while at a Family Reunion, 2 years ago, in between post #5 and post #6 of this thread (the time between July 22 and July 28). actually, I probably wrote it even before I started this thread, since that period's the week of my birthday (July 25), and i know i was here in town for my 19th birthday (thats what I turned that year).

this part of the story's been sitting preserved in my programming notebook ever since then. it's one of the very first ideas I had when I came up with this story, and, for the most part, its exactly as it's written here on the papers in front of me. (some of its changed, mostly because the way i wrote it then neither Ian or Miku knew it was Maxie at the time, until he introduced himself during the fight).

just thought I'd show you a little insight to the heritage of this story

I considered having Maxie give a summary of what had happened in the show between Team Aqua and Team Magma concerning the blue and red orbs, but decided it wasn't a story necessary for right now (plus I'd have to read some episode summaries to figure out waht was going on because I didnt see those episodes). I'm taking the Emerald stance on them tho, both Team Aqua and Team Magma being evil (tho Team Magma slightly less evil since I use the show's storyline for this world, and Maxie is a good guy in the show).

Mai, Takumi, and Akira are from My-HiME. They just sort of happened that way conveniently. I needed a character to introduce the computers, who had to be male and also a fire type. I also needed a sibling for that person as well, and ended up going with Mai and Takumi since Mai's element is Fire. that also allowed me to use Akira, and her presence is more important because that game me a good way to introduce that Maxie is a Ninja (because Archie is a Pirate and the Ninja is the diametric opposite of the Pirate  )

On the subject, the girl from the Dragon Clan earlier is based off of Serizawa from Pani Poni Dash. I'm considering doing another character copy in this town theyre in right now, copying the old medicine lady from Utawarerumono to be the one that makes the medicines for Takumi (since i decided to copy his heart problems as well). Utawarerumono, for those that haven't been watching it, is a currently airing anime in Japan that is a world very similar to the world I'm trying to portray here in Skewed, where the populace isn't entirely human but have bits of animal DNA in them. Its a pretty cool show, i encourage anyone that hasnt watched it that follows currently airing anime to watch it

I'm going to bump this up, because I need to note a rather serious mistake I have made, and now have to go back and change.

I refer to two different documents for my real world locations of Pokemon cities. Both of these are saved PDF's, because the bookmarks for both of the sites had died (one got shut down by a request from The Pokemon Company, and the other was a free hosted site that simply died). Neither of these documents are stored in a place I can easily find them, so I have to dig for them to find them, and don't have them to compare.

The problem is I have Blackthorn in the wrong place. I noticed this originally when I was trying to figure out how far away Mt. Mortar was, because that was where I was originally going to write this update, as a simple, passby section paired with another one to finish this line of events and move onto the next one. However, looking around the country with Google Maps, I started to realize there was a problem. I realized I was in the very wrong place after tracking down Mt Fuji, which is what Mt. Silver is. Suwa, Nagano Prefecture is far too north of Mt Fuji, and also is located north of Lake Biwa (the Lake of Rage) so it couldnt possibly be the right place. After searching around, I found both of the documents, and realized not only that, but a number of Johto areas are in disagreement between the two. The other document had it placed in Gifu, Gifu Prefecture. Looking at that area, I noticed theres a river running through/around the city, which fit the bill for the setting they used in the anime episode where Clair was getting the Dratini up the river to evolve. There is a 90 mile difference between those two cities, putting the former much too far away to be a proper part of Johto.

Searching the internet after that, however, I found that the second document, that had it in Gifu, was still around (linked here if you want to see it, the entire site's in Japanese though). So I will be referring to that document solely.

The 'Ditto Ring' is an idea I got playing Nethack. I play it on my PDA, and use the names of characters from here, the characters I use in MMORPGs, and from Fate/Stay Night. I started one game as Sabrina and a Wizard, and got as a starting item this ring of polymorph. as I went around, it would randomly change me into different monsters (or sometimes back), but when I took off the ring I still was affected by the power. reading some Nethack spoilers I read there's also a version of the ring you can control, so I combined the two rings into the Ditto ring as described here (was going to go into some more description originally, but i declined to do it with how big this update got). as I was originally planning on going simply going into Mt. Mortar and fighting the guy with the Ditto ring,

However, I realized back as well one other minor detail, they were following the guy who summoned the Tyranitar east, not west towards Mt. Mortar. Not wanting to bother changing that as well, I started to look at what was west of Gifu, when I realized exactly where I was. I was right near Shirakawa, Gifu Prefecture, which is what Hinamizawa was based off of in Higurashi No Naku Koroni, which happens to be a recent favorite anime of mine because of the setting. So I picked that for this update, and it grew into something rather massive as I explored some ideas to set up for things that will happen later in the story. (And, since it was released in English today, I held off the update for today in celebration :) ) Storyline-wise, I aborted the endless summer at Tatarigoroshi-hen/Himatsubushi-hen. The conversation at the beginning where Sabrina recounts the recording is from the "Maebara Keiichi's Interview" from the TIPS of Tatarigoroshi-hen.

So that's that. I will go back and correct the previous sections with the mistakes, and try to be more careful in the future. If anyone knows how to save multiple Google Earth placemarks into exported file, I'll make up a group of placemarks pointing out where various things are in this story.
