== COLD CRUSH (Articuno EX - EX:Fire Red / Leaf Green; Dark Golduck - EX:Team Rocket Returns)

* Blastoise-EX and Articuno-EX each have an attack that discards an Energy card from the Defending Pokémon. The player using those attacks is also the player who chooses the Energy card to be discarded. (Jul 25, 2006 PUI Announcements)

== HYPER WHIRLPOOL (Blastoise EX - EX:Fire Red / Leaf Green; Kingdra - EX:Team Rocket Returns)

* Blastoise-EX and Articuno-EX each have an attack that discards an Energy card from the Defending Pokémon. The player using those attacks is also the player who chooses the Energy card to be discarded. (Jul 25, 2006 PUI Announcements)

== ICE GENERATOR (Ancient Technical Machine [Ice] - EX:Hidden Legends) [see also Trainer Cards - Ancient Technical Machines]

* Holon Energy WP and Ancient Technical Machine [Ice] only prevent effects that come from attacks, not all effects in play. Trainer cards, Poké-Powers, and Poké-Bodies are not prevented by those cards. (Jul 25, 2006 PUI Announcements)

== HOLON ENERGY WP (EX:Delta Species)

* Holon Energy WP and Ancient Technical Machine [Ice] only prevent effects that come from attacks, not all effects in play. Trainer cards, Poké-Powers, and Poké-Bodies are not prevented by those cards. (Jul 25, 2006 PUI Announcements)

Q. Blastoise-EX's "Hyper Whirlpool" attack says, "...for each heads, your opponent discards an Energy card attached to the Defending Pokémon". Does my opponent choose the Energy card discarded, or does the attacker?
A. Blastoise-EX and Articuno-EX each have an attack that discards an Energy card from the Defending Pokémon. The player using those attacks is also the player who chooses the Energy card to be discarded. (Sep 9, 2004 PUI Rules Team; Jul 25, 2006 PUI Announcements; Jul 27, 2006 PUI Rules Team)

Q. Blastoise-EX's "Hyper Whirlpool" attack says, "...for each heads, your opponent discards an Energy card attached to the Defending Pokémon". Does my opponent choose the Energy card discarded, or does the attacker?
A. Your opponent would choose which Energy cards to discard. (Sep 9, 2004 PUI Rules Team)

Q. TRR Kingdra's "Hyper Whirlpool" says "Flip a coin until you get tails. For each heads, discard an Energy card attached to the Defending Pokémon." Who chooses the Energy card(s) to discard, you or the opponent?
A. The wording on Kingdra's "Hyper Whirlpool" is different than the same attack on Blastoise-EX. But for both cards' Hyper Whirlpool attack, the player using those attacks gets to choose the Energy card to be discarded. * Holon Energy WP and Ancient Technical Machine [Ice] only prevent effects that come from attacks, not all effects in play. Trainer cards, Poké-Powers, and Poké-Bodies are not prevented by those cards. (Jul 25, 2006 PUI Announcements; Jul 27, 2006 PUI Rules Team)

Q. Does "Ice Generator" from Ancient Technical Machine [Ice] prevent effects from trainers like Warp Point during your opponents turn? Or is the card text missing "from your opponent's attack" as an additional qualifier?
A. The phrase "Prevent all effects, including damage" is supposed to refer to attacks, similar to Holon Energy WP. Trainer cards, Poké-Powers, and Poké-Bodies are still effective against a Pokemon who used Ice Generator on its previous turn. (May 4, 2006 PUI Rules Team; Jul 25, 2006 PUI Announcements; Jul 27, 2006 PUI Rules Team)

GENERAL GAMEPLAY
----------------------------------------------------------------------

== STARTING THE GAME

Q. If you have basic and fossil Pokémon in your hand at startup, can you choose to play only the fossils and not the basic?
A. Yes. You can play "just" the Fossil Trainer cards, if you have fossils and a basic. If your opening hand has Fossil Trainers only, but no Basic Pokemon cards, you must choose a Fossil Trainer to place active. (Oct 16, 2003 PUI Rules Team; Jul 27, 2006 PUI Rules Team)

Q. If you have basic and fossil Pokémon in your hand at startup, can you choose to play only the fossils and not the basic?
A. Yes. You can play "just" the Fossil Trainer cards, if you wish. (Oct 16, 2003 PUI Rules Team)

Q. My opponent MUST put their basic down first before they draw 1 card for my mulligan, right? Say my opponent draws a better choice starter Pokémon when I mulligan, are they allowed to switch it out with another from their hand?
A. They must place their active Pokemon and their prizes before optionally drawing a card for the mulligan. Once placed, the active cannot be changed during setup; but you are allowed to add a new Pokémon to your bench, if there is room. (Jun 16, 2005 PUI Rules Team; Feb 9, 2006 PUI Rules Team; Jul 27, 2006 PUI Rules Team)
