Could banning 2 cards solve our problems?

Everyone knew when the Black & White rules were announced and the trainer rule was switched back so the player going first could play trainers/supporters/stadiums that Sableye was going to be abused. In addition to Sableye its best friend Crobat G only enhanced its power which is now insane. It's so easy for Sableye to donk by itself let alone starting with a Pokemon Collector and grabbing Crobat G's and Unown (DARK) or Poke Drawer x 2 for Expert Belt and Seeker. Even having 3 Pokemon out can no longer guarantee that you won't be donked.

So I've played throughout the Battle Road season and I've been donked a few times. I've also donked once. I've seen Sabledonk decks run wild until they run into players that put down Uxie and Azelf just so they won't get donked or the few players playing Spiritomb. Judges and TOs have been keeping track of how many donks happen at tournaments and the duration of matches. Obviously they're debating on whether a rotation is needed before Nats and Worlds. Now a rotation would bring fresh decks into the mainstream with all new strategies and concepts. However, what about the players that can't get there hands on the new stuff or at least the new cards they would need to build the new competitive decks they want.

Would it be easier just to ban Sableye and Crobat G and leave the format how it is? Everyone is kind of forced to play Sableye right now no matter what deck they are playing just to keep up.

This thread is to get a constructive discussion and analysis going? What are your thoughts?

They would also need to ban BTS in my opinion. T1 Speed Machamp w/Seekers? No thanks.

To be honest, I don't see any point in not doing the rotation once BRs are over.

Players competing at top level in US Nats and Worlds aren't really going to have issues getting cards.

No reason why others can't play MD-on at League.

The rotation will hit in September anyway. Early rotation affects basically 3 tournaments (US and Canadian Nats + Worlds)

As a side note, you can be competitive in HGSS-on a lot cheaper than you could in MD-on. It's not too hard or expensive to put together Reshiram/Typhlosion for example.

The problem isn't Sableye and Crobat G, not at all.

Uxie is the most degenerate card in the format, and if anything needs to be banned (for the record, I'm in favor of a rotation instead of bannings), it's that. Sableye and Crobat can both be used in non-degenerate ways, whereas Uxie cannot.

I also echo what Baby Mario said.

My thoughts are that they're not going to ban anything. They've already gone and announced that we're possibly looking at a mid-season rotation, and that's what they'll stick with.

And it's not just Uxie, Crobat and Sableye that are problems under these rules. Gyarados is a major problem. No deck should be able to set up on the first turn, swinging for 80/90/100/110+ with a complete power lockdown capability. Gyarados doesn't even need Sableye to achieve this. Uxie helps it, yeah, but that doesn't change the fact that it's an absurd card and deck even without it. Juniper and Dual Ball with Smeargle get the job done nicely.

And if you ban Sableye? SP gets even better. Retarded, but true. They can still Radar, Gain, what have you all on turn one. SP can get by without Uxie too. Judge is more painful, but that doesn't stop it entirely. Good SPs will tech things like Chatot, and a lot of them already run Smeargle, so that mitigates the effect of Judge to some degree. There's a definite difference in power and ability with SP and Gyarados than there is everything else, and I don't ever think we've seen such a disproportionate level of strength among decks. Not even in 08 with Gardy. Magmortar could take Gardevoir to town, and so could Empoleon/Bronzong, Leafeon/Magmortar, and a well built Garchomp or Torterra. Not much takes down Gyarados or SP aside from other Gyarados and SP.

Banning will solve nothing, rotation will solve everything.

No because not a lot of other decks could beat sp's. Stage 2 decks wouldn't be nearly as good. Thus making the metagame smaller. By rotating to HGSS-On it makes for a much more diverse format.

Emboar Forretress doesn't need Sableye or Crobat to be cheap.
HGSS-on is the format Japan has so it can't be completely bad.

And about new decks, we're talking about sets that are in store for more than a year. Players who want to continue tournament play will need an HGSS-on deck next season anyway, so why not two months earlier? Actually it's even better for newcomers who start the game right before Nationals, so they don't need to get the old cards.

2 Cards? I've got a full list.

1.) Expert Belt
2.) Uxie
3.) Sableye
4.) Crobat G/Poke Turn

Thats my 15 second list.
