Counter against Eelektrik w/ Zekrom/Magnezone

So I faced 3 out of my six matches against this deck in one cities. I lost to each eelektrik deck. I wanted to know a reasonable counter? There's Terrakion, but his retreat cost is heavy and he'd only be of use for one turn as a OHKO...and I'd have to make sure I get my rainbow energy out in time. So I was wondering if there were better options? The deck I'm running is a ReshiPhlosion with a Kingdra tech. Although, 2/3 of the Eelektrik matches for some reason I didn't get supporters in the beginning..which is odd since that doesn't often happen to me. Anyways, seems like a popular deck, any other counters?

Actually that is pretty decent because of the -20 resistance so makes it kind of a 130hp like Terra. However, with Landorous it forces me to use up 2 rainbow energy, which hurts me back to 110hp. Plus 2 rainbow energy is hard to get. Unless I put one fight and a rainbow..but even then I'm searching for two cards just for that.

Thanks for the suggestion though!

Donphan is another obvious counter. resists lightning by 40 and I can speak from personal experience that it is a pain to lost burn the 4 energy to one shot it.

Also, when it comes to Terrakion, if they can't respond KO and you can attach another fighting energy then you can use land crush to one shot anything that deck runs.

if you're really having alot of trouble against magnezone, i would play donchamp. it can one shot the magnezones or force them to burn 4 energies on the donphan. i've tested this deck for a while and its pretty easy to play. with the right deck build it would crush magnezone. that's magnezone's worst matchup.

You would want to run Donchamp with defenders for force them to LZ 4+6 energy on a KO with Machamp and Donphan.

The only downfall to a donphan tech or a landorus tech in reshiphlosion, is that it opens all your reshirams for bolt strike OHKOs .If your opponent plays more than one zekrom, that 10 damage could be a problem.

No need to tech. Instead, you Catcher Eelektriks to disrupt and kill their acceleration. Always - ALWAYS - aim for their Eelektriks.

Landorus does a pretty good job

Wouldn't just running Terrakion be better... It is easier to get into play. It is better in different matchups and has the same bulk vs lightning pokes, but better bulk vs other pokes.

Granted the OP didn't want Terrakion and Landorus only has 1 retreat cost, but otherwise Terrakion is better.

I disagree here entirely. If you constantly attack Eels, they will almost always be able to replace them. It is a stage one after all. As the game continues they typically get at least two Magnezones in play, so with 2-3 Magnetic Draw and a supporter it's beyond easy, even if they need to hit their Super Rod/Junk Arm for the Super Rod. They won't run out of Eels. I've tried this method many, many times, and it only works if they don't run Super Rod at all. All Mag/Eels should be running Super Rod.

Instead, I suggest at least testing out killing the magnets. OHKO Magnemites when you can't OHKO Zone. Then OHKO Magnezone. If they ever hit a spot with no Magnezone on the field, they can't Magnetic Draw to get one back, PLUS it's a stage two, so they need another turn via Magneton or Rare Candy. It's much more difficult to keep up their game state if Magnezone's and Magnemites keep leaving the field.

To each his own, I guess. I've always found the Super Rod situation happening once, twice at the most in a game, and it was always easier for me to hit the Eelektriks than to deal with the entire Magnemite line.

This discussion is great, I run an-all water deck. I'm surprised using attacks that confuse, paralyze, or prevent attacks (Sheer Cold, or Iron Breaker) weren't discussed. I've seen Audino EP get some play recently, could be a counter to Magnezone/Eletrik/Zekrom.

For me, I don't have too many problems preventing attacks from Zekrom. Haven't figured out the zone part yet :-/

Edit: One thing you've probably tried is Blue Flare + PlusPowerx2 + Junk Arm for another PlusPower

Special Conditions in a deck without Vileplume are usually shrugged off as a main strategy in this format. Zone decks all run 2 Switch and at least 3 Junk Arm. They also have the Mag Draws to effectively hit them. If you want to beat Magnezone, OHKO them. The more effective your deck is at this, the stronger your match up is.
