So, a few weeks hot off of a win with the Garbage TRUK (Infernape), I didn't know if I even wanted to go to another tourney: after all, I've been pretty busy lately :X. Buuuuuut with some coaxing from Team **********, and more so my brother/Lauren, I decided to play in the nearby Magnolia, TX event.
I was torn between what I did (or didn't) want to play: the metagame down there is confusing thanks to a pretty even split between Blisseyvire and Rgon variants (or so I assume). However, I figured...what they hey? Let's play MYTHIC TRUK!
So the reason why it's called Mythic TRUK is because, put simply, it doesn't exist! KingGengar does NOT have a soul for pushing Mario on the Pokegym for so long, so through extrapolation, his deck doesn't have a soul! Just kidding about KG not having a soul...buuuuut nothing about Mythic TRUK! :X
My brother goes with Garbage TRUK (with our anti-water tech), and Lauren (Billy's girlfriend) sticks with her Infernape/Blissey (which I'm thinking was a sneaking inspiration for Clay's recent Empoleon/Blissey ).
Round 1: VS Manuel (Feraligatr d with Rayquaza ex d tech)
All right so I'm thinking, "cool, he's playing a tech sniper!" However, he starts with it, thus instantly guaranteeing me two prizes from the get-go. I win pretty quickly from there. One soul down.
Round 2: VS Lauren Ko (Infernape/Blissey)
Oh no, a team member of "Kettlero and Ko"! Well, she began to make me sweat pretty early with some early hitters, but my Revenge is just so good with a million pluspowers and jive. She tried to save my soul, but....two souls down!
Round 3: VS Denise (Feraligatr)
Slow start on her part, but even slower start on mine (lone Riolu sitting out there, rolling 0/3 in Wild Kick). Eventually I get rolling and take her Gatr out. A third soul down!
~~~HALF POINT MARKER!~~~
So you all know how I've been doing, but Lauren is 2-1 (winning her third game after losing to me), and Billy was a solid 3-0! Our anti-water tech worked AMAZINGLY well, as my brother beat not only an Empoleon/Lucario, but a Speed Empoleon as well! I forget who he beat R3, but quite impressive!
Round 4: VS Billy Kettler (Garbage TRUK)
So...we mulligan twice each until he finally gets a basic. However...I mulligan uhhh, three more times! EWWWW!
Ah well, it got better because I got to go first "and" with a Riolu VS Skitty! I Wild Kicked for the win aaaand...H-TAILS!!! So from there my brother built up an insane setup, while I was struggling. However, Lucario helped setup some critical KO's, and made Revenging soooo much easier. Eventually it got to a point where, due to him having two DRE prized, he had to send up Delcatty ex to upstream my Machamp for KO. Little did he know that I had a Lucario with two pluspowers to one-shot him. He got really, close, but in the end, his last two prizes sealed the deal (both dre). I ended up winning on time, bu we played for fun and I took it.
It definitely would've been closer if one of those DRE didn't evade him for so long, but eh, lady luck seemed to balance out, as I whiffed on maaaaany key cards. The difference was razor-thin though, and is a testament to how GOOD he's gotten in the past year. All I know is that if you underestimate him just 'cause he's "Kettler's brother," you're foolish. Soul #4 down!
Round 5: VS Adam Garcia (Moving TRUK)
I FTKO him with Riolu. He had extra basics to bench, but he purposely chose not to because he didn't want to draw the game out. A fifth soul...partially down!
So we break, and cut to the top four. I don't know how the young folk went, but here was the top four for Masters:
1st Seed (5-0): Johnny K (Mythic TRUK)
2nd Seed (4-1): Billy K (Garbage TRUK)
3rd Seed (4-1): Diana C (Flygon/Electivire)
4th Seed (4-1): Adam G (Moving TRUK)
Final Four: VS Adam (Moving TRUK)
Game One-I don't remember how I won, but I won pretty quickly.
Game Two-I had a "meh" start and he had a decent one (I say "decent" because he setup just fine, but was forced to sit with a lonely Chansey for a couple turns). Eventually he starts steamrolling me while I'm forced to play catch up. For quite some time he remains ahead of by just a "little" bit until the turning point: Machamp+Cessation Crystal+Revenge. That bought me a key turn, and made it so that he couldn't move energy back to the Vire. I then retreated for a Cario and ko'd him. He Pulse Barriered me, and I began working towards the next few turns (although not doing any damage). It keeps on shooting back and forth until all he needs is a DRE.,..well, luckily he used up all the DRE he ran, and I won by a turn. Good game man, and way to know a thing or (or fifty) about South park . (7-0 games, 6-0 matches)
My brother beat Diana Chambers in two, although it was a narrow win. The Super Kettlero brothers make it to the finals!!!
Finals: VS Billy (Garbage TRUK)
Game One-I get out a fast Riolu+stuff vs his T1 Delcatty. My hitters are just putting way too much pressure on him way too early, and I force him into dropping a TGW: if he wins he stands a chance to come back, and if he loses then well...on to game two...On to game two. Sorry, man .
Game Two-Similar to the last game, only he was one card shy of having a godly hand. Instead he was forced into rc'ing to an ape turn one. I think he TGW'd me by turn two or three, and the same result: I won the wager (quite unlike every other Wager we've played up to this point...he's won vs me about 55% of the time!). I build up a giant, unstoppable army of soulless warriors, and we eventually shake hands, head home, etc. (9-0 games, 7-0 matches).
Props:
-Me not having a soul
