Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

Did you got 4 boosters as prize at your pre-release.

I see. I just don't understand when I see two auctions for the same card, one in Europe and one in America, and the American one ends for $15 and the European one for almost $50. Its crazy.

What are the Prizes?

All participants will receive a Pokémon TCG: EX Team Rocket Returns Prerelease Promo card, POP Series 1 Boosters Packs and additional booster packs of Pokémon TCG: EX Team Rocket Returns

How much does the event cost?

Tournament organizers may charge up to the equivalent of $20 US per player as an entry fee for these events. You may want to contact your local organizer in advance to find out what they will be charging as an entry fee

I qouted this off the link that Prof. Dav listed above. I see the price should be the equivalent (not more than) of $20 US. This would be less than 20 GBP and less than 20 Euro (1.2 Euro = $1 US) WHY are they being CHARGED 30 Euro in Belgium?? This also said that the prizes would be POP series 1 packs (plural) and additional booster packs (PLURAL again) of TRR. Exactly where does it say that our european friends get screwed out of product??? Is it up to the local distributor/Nazi dictator to decide??? Sounds like our friends in Europe deserve a GOOD explanation from PUI.

Just my 2 euro worth on the subject

Keith

Keith - THis is not the first time we get less and it will not be the last time.

We informed/asked PUI/POP so many times why there was such a difference.
and the only reward we got, was that access to league/tournament promomaterials is denied.

Be carefull with what you say here, you can be the next one loosing one status, because there are people not reading well.
Yes I also saw that boosters is Plural.

To share Michel, why is this difference allowed in the first place, equal program = equal program (sounds like I'm again repeating myself).

First, I would like to remember everyone of post #138 of the thread "Prerelease Prize Structure changed".

That's the idea, and one of the reasons it was implemented.

Now, some thoughts and comments:

In Germany, you had to pay something around 20 Euro and got at least 2 boosters for attending. Support was one display for up to 18 players (i.e. with 8 players, you had more support than in US) and two displays for up to 36 players. Fortunately, we in Dortmund "only" had 20 players, so we had 3.6 boosters in average per player... Of course, this system has some problems, but I already told the distributor. Hopefully, they can change it to a per-player-base.
But: no POP boosters because we have to wait for the localized product (and that also means, that the league has not started overhere till now).

Sadly, it´s true. Every distributor seems to get a very wide framework, in which they can operate and "do, what they want". Why is there moaning and groaning only by a very few people? Because most of the players don´t look across the borders. I was with some players at the first weekend in Ekeren and my players were shocked about the costs and prizes over there. And they asked me: "How can that be? Is that fair? Oh, we are glad, we live in Germany. But why don´t we get POP boosters?" Good, that we didn´t go to England. Their opinion would be totally different...

I cannot tell, if the following is true, but I think the main problem is the following: Many distributors in Europe don´t have the resources to pay the same prize support than in US. And in US, the players are so spoiled by the prize structure they had before that any lowerage will end in a riot or kind of. This makes a complete match of prize structure hard to achieve, but it would be in the interest of all of us.

And because of the resource problem, you had 80% Americans at Worlds and only a few players from other countries (besides Japan). I´m still dreaming of a great idea: The "pikachu plane", sponsored by PUI, which brings all European players from one "collecting point" in central Europe to Worlds, so that the distributors only have to pay for the transfer to the "collecting point" and hotel and we would have the possibility of more payable trips, so that more of our European players can enjoy Worlds.

Just my 2 cents.

Glumanda, Rainbowgym : You've both been to Ekeren for the prerelease, probably not the same day. It would be great to play the same prerelease all together next time (if you want to come back to Belgium :D .

Please read the http://www.pokegym.net/showthread.php?t=12206 topic about the prize structure and the prereleases in the USA.

You'll read, ao :

The freebies and incentives were as follows: free lunch (pizza), 1 free deck box (tin ?) to each player (up to 84), 1 whole box to the winners, extra booster to any new player and the player that brought them. All for the whopping price of $18. I may have forgotten a prize or 2.

The prerelease that I would've attended got 1 less person since I didn't go. I didn't go because they maximised the entry fee ($20), and minimized the prizes as much as possible(still only 12 packs a person). No way I'm paying $2 a pack and driving 4 hours to do it.

For the only Pre-Release I could go to, the new prize structure rocked. I came in about 5th, and got 4 extra packs(because the event cost 5 dollars). So I actually walked away with 14 packs for 20 dollars. But then I traded 2 EX's with a guy for 2 packs each, then drew another EX and traded someone else that for 2 more packs. So in all, I left with 20 packs for 20 dollars. You cannot beat that deal.

Are we really talking about the same game and tournaments ?

Hum... here in Italy, distributor kept the old prize structure, saying that internationally we are free to change the prize structure. In fact, I used the structure I used for FRLG prerelease (14 boosters for 1st, 7 booster for 2nd, and so on). During the prerelease organized directly by the distributor, we gave out prizes only for 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th, but giving 1 whole box for 1st.
Using the same structure, we paid 210 euros for each 3 boxes (= support for 10 players). If using the new structure (6+4), I never had the chance to recover the 420 euros for paying the kits.
If PUI keep giving the distrubotirs the chance to choose which prize structure to use, we'll never have equality.

Uh, BTW, my distributor is not sure about costs for Premier Events (if they are free or not here too).

What are the Prizes?

All participants will receive a Pokémon TCG: EX Team Rocket Returns Prerelease Promo card.

In addition, all players who complete the event will receive 4 additional booster packs of EX Team Rocket Returns cards and 2 POP Series One booster packs!

Why would you assume if you play internationally you would pay more and get less?

Why would you not put a very clear note at the url http://op.pokemon-tcg.com/events/faqs/ex7_prerelease_faq.asp that this may not apply to International Pre-releases?

Why would you not put a link to the International Pre-release FAQ's on the same page?

Looks like PUI/POP are hiding the nature of Int'l OP? Could it be you don't want to advertise that it is a poor relation to OP in the US...

Michel: Those posts are from a thread I started. MG45 (Vince) was adding those prizes to the standard 10 packs plus 2 POP packs. All for the price of $18 US dollars. All the other american PRs gave a minimum of 10 packs TRR and 2 POPs (except in a few areas were delivery was shorted). Prime posted about trading w/ others (including my son) so that he came away with 20 packs for his entrance fee of $20. Not a bad deal for traveling 1 1/2 hrs. I don't understand Prof. Dav's posts wherein he puts the link to Internat'l OP prizes and it clearly says PLURAL PACKS. PUI has to address this issue ASAP for the international players. Isn't being fair and following the prize structure POSTED on their own website fall under "THE SPIRIT OF THE GAME" ???? Just my 2 euro worth.

Keith - there will be
A. No answer
B. Someone saying that they will" investigate"this,
C. or something like "it has our attention"
D. (isnt'valid because "ask you distributor" doesn't work this time)

In all cases you never get an answer on your question.
This is not the first time this is happening.

Michel - we are in heavy doubt about continue Pokemon.
It's to expensive for the agegroup who is wanted for this game.

If we keep enough players, we will do an after release ourselves next time, much cheaper and we can trade to get a descent deck.
But first this game has to survive in this country and I have bad feelings about that.

Keith : i think I'm gonna do what I've always wanted to do ... take my wife and my daughter and come to live in your country ;) If it wasn't so difficult to find a job from here, I wouldn't be playing in Europe for a long time.

Rainbowgym : I understand and I do agree with you, but other games are more expensive than Pokemon (YGO for example).
We've had a lot of new sets these last months, and I don't know if we'll have that many next year. But boxes in the USA are not that expensive, no ?

I'm in OP for 4 years, and something has always been very clear to me. The great majority of the 13/14 and under kids who play at a good or high level have one or both parents involved in the game as player, TO, ...
I do realize that I wouldn't buy 2 or 3 boxes of a new set for my daughter if I didn't play myself, just because I understand that passion for the game while parents who are not interested in pokemon probably don't.

We certainly all remember the long discussions about pokemon beeing a game for kids or not, for families or not, ...
When I've met people of The Pokemon Company staff they've told me (and one of them was the president of the Company), that they wanted Pokemon to be a family game, and not a kids game.

15+ division is now back, and it's a very positive point. Maybe should POP go further on that way.
But it's out of topic, and probably not the time to talk about these ideas and suggestions ;)

Your other idea is the survival of the game in your country. But as long as you, Henna and the 2 other 'dissidents' will keep on working like you do for the kids in your leagues, and as long as you'll remember that Belgium or Germany are not so far from Holland, I'm sure you and the players of your leagues will have fun with our game ;)
