do you find it annoying when...

Come on, lighten up, and don't take everything so seriously!
People who take meaningless things serious (like me and Pokemon TCG) have heard this so many times it's honestly not even worth the few seconds it takes for you to type it out.

And I'll take it seriously if I want to!

I talk to my opponent's using telepathy, as to not disturb the other players around us.

WORST GAME EVER:

It was during City Championships, and my opponent would not shut up! I was playing my Charizard G deck, and he kept messing me up by saying "Let me guess, heat wave?" I would then say "Yep, heat wave" instead of saying Malevolent Fire. I'd try to take it back, but he kept insisting that I had used heat wave (since Malevolent Fire would have OHKO'd his pokemon.) I finally just give up arguing and blast him next turn FTW, but it was still really annoying!
Normally, I don't care about random comments, but I would definitely ask my opponent to stop if he was saying things like that, and if he didn't, I'd call a judge. These types of comments would me more than just annoying to me. I'm pretty easy to psych out, so an opponent who said things like that would totally wreck my game. That's just not acceptable.

But like Kayle said above, I just expect to run into some players with less-than-optimal social skills, so I don't let most annoying behavior bother me.

KABUTOPS WHATS WRONG

ARE YOU TRAPPED IN THE 'OLE WELL?

:( Kabutops sad. No cookie for Kabutops.

Back on topic, in my country, I am known (kinda) for my win with a Claydol deck (4-4 Claydol GE 2-2 Weavile SW, Claydol is main attacker) so if I'm ever using that deck a well-rendered "IMMA FIRIN' MAH LAZOR!!!" is always expected and brings a few laughs.
If, however, I'm playing against someone who doesn't get the joke and is wondering why I'm loving my T2 Claydols with Ebelts and Spec Darks, then I won't fire my laser.
It's a matter of being able to judge your opponent and the situation.
Even in Nationals, in a crucial match (which cost me an invite to worlds, but meh) where I had minutes to finish, I was still joking with my opponent about how fast I was shuffling, as he said:
"Woah man, you look like you're shuffling on fast forward or something."
To which I jokingly replied:
"Id rather that than half speed!"
I lost, not because I was distracted, but because I got donked game 2 by kingdra and grumblegrumblejustyouwaitgrumblegrumble Kabutops sad :( aka I couldn't make the win before time.
Why didn't i care? Well, it was fun, the other fellow was a friend and it was all for laughs.

I've also played against the "after you cosmic can I start because I just poltered you and you can't do anything anyway" sort of person.
The best thing to do is take your time (reasonably, don't tread the line) and occasionally drop a "Scuse me. I'm thinking. Quiet please." when applicable.

Your judgment is the most crucial thing. If you know banter will be taken in kind, then do that, but if your opponent is trying to portray a hurried game onto you then slow down, peace out man, and save the trees.

I think there's a pretty fine line between nice conversation and being annoying. Some of these comments I've read so far if said during my game would irritate me but I also think calling a judge over is wayyy unnecessary. If the person was just chattering to calm themselves down, or accidentally slipped out a slightly insulting comment you're going to make them feel pretty terrible by calling a judge over. I guess if the person was annoying/rude beyond belief, wouldn't take their turns or whatever I might consider calling a judge over but even then I'm not sure.

For myself what I try to do is to just shoot the breeze if I don't know the person, because generally they are new. It seems to loosen both myself and the other player up. Of course if it's clear they have no interest in talking I take the hint and stop. If I do know the person I will joke around, maybe even trash talk some but only if I really think the other person is ok with it. However, I don't hesitate to ask a person to get their turn going some if they get wrapped up in joking or talking.

I'm also a pretty serious player but I try to take it easy since getting stressed out or annoyed over this type of thing really doesn't help anything and will just put you in a bad mood possibly resulting in a thread on Pokegym. ;P

My personal peves are when someone who finishes there games come up and decied to make comments and let you know how there game went. thus making you lose your consintration... Oh that and saying Really everytime I make a play.

Opponent-Really really your bringing up my Shaymin lv x. you know he has 100hp.

Me- Yes Flash bite your shaymin . bring up my Shuppet attach a energy 4 plus powers and a expert belt. Fade out for 90. Shyamin is knocked out. Draw my prize and end my turn.

Opponent-Really you know I can bring him back..

Me- yes and then I'll donk him again.

Makes you just want to go "You know, REALLY - - you're retarded." I actually had a fun experience with a guy who did this; I started pulling a weird play with my deck, don't remember quite what, and they started pulling the 'really' stunt, and I just stayed completely silent until the end of my turn. Barely announced my powers and stuff. Until the end, when I dropped two Crobats, two Turns, and three Pluspowers FTW.

Yes. Really.

It also irritates me when they gather a few dice and hold them in their hand gesturing, "are you done?" but that doesn't bother me NEAR as much as talking/bantering.

I usually get the dice ready in my hand before they attack - I don't ask them if they're done. Sometimes people play slow, and you need to make sure the game doesn't go to time by saving time wherever you can (including getting dice ready).

Also, talking during a match is one thing - if they are being rude or trying to get in your head, that's wrong; however, a lot of people also do it to have fun during matches. Playing against the same Luxchomp deck 7 rounds in a row is less fun in silence.

I tend to ask, after my opponent attacks, "Is it my turn?" I figure that almost always, attacking is the last thing you can do in your turn, but I don't want to draw or start playing until I've confrimed that they've ended their turn. I realized, after reading this thread, that I do this almost constantly. Is that the kind of thing that would annoy you? If so, I should probably practice not doing that.

This is essentially every single battle I have had with my little brother. "Bebe's Search? Are you going to get (insert card here)?". It's especially annoying when that person's right.

At the start of the match, ask them to say "Go" after each of their turns, and explain that you just prefer that you get the confirmation to start your turn. That might be annoying to some people, but it will be less annoying than it would be if you were to ask at the end of each turn.

However, I personally would not find that annoying; I like getting confirmation, too. And I like to know my opponent is paying attention.

LOL inside

this is funny like i cant say that ive had people do this kind of thing to me alot (cuz here in New England we rock:thumb:)

but like if they do that id think you'd find it amusing seeing that your opponent has gotten so annoyed/angered with the game state that they are forced into doing such a thing so why not just LOL there face off in your head like think about it if they are being rude just think about what the resone there doing it for

so the main resones theyd do it are

A. they are a sore loser and want to make you mad cuz they lost and they wanted to win (but dont we all?)
B. they have a rivalry with you or have had some bad experience with you and hate you anyways
C. they dont understand respect and manners and prefer to make you angry and feel bad weather your losing or winning
D. they suck and they wont except it so they get pissed when they lose
E. there just plain out little creep that have nothing better to do then insult/provoke/intimidate you

so just no matter what the resone is just LOL there face off inside you brain (if you got one) at why there such rude inconsiderate little jerks

Auuugh! Some kid at league was doing this to me last week! And I found myself trying really hard not to let him be right. To my disadvantage, most of the time.

Him: "You're going to use that Bebe's Search to get Claydol."
Me: "Um...no I'm not."
Me thinking: Darn. I had really wanted to get that Claydol...
