Donphan Prime Support?

Hi guys! I'm new to the forum and believe I will be spending a lot of time here. :)

After years of not playing PTCG (...like 10? Last set I played with was Neo Genesis), I'm back and am blown away by all the new changes. I bought a few theme decks and some boosters to help me get started. Out of 5 packs, I pulled 2 Donphan Primes. (Link) Those things are pretty cool.
After considering the card, I was wondering if there are any poke-powers/bodies that prevent a small amount of damage to benched pokemon? Or perhaps a trainer card? Or perhaps he might just be an early game pokemon and not ideal for extended play.

Manectric PL blocks off all damage done to benched pokemon but himself...
But if you have 2 out neither of them are hurt.
Bench Shield blocks damage done to 1 benched pokemon. Works well with Manectric.
Or if you want to get even spiffier, allow your pokemon to get damaged and put in a Machamp Prime. His attacks do 100 + 10 for every one of your benched pokemon that are damaged o.o

Another card that works with donphan prime is Nidoqueen RR wich heals 10 damage to all of your pokemon in between turns, wich not only helps your bench, but it also makes donphan even harder to knock out.

Eh... Even if you have 2 manectric out, they still get dmg-ed. Read his poke-body carefully, it says prevent all dmg done to your benched pokemon EXCLUDING any manectric. So no matter how many you have out, they dun shield each other.

However, bench shield with manectric is a great idea. If you were playing manectric, i would recommend running 1-1 entei-raikou legend with stark mountain. This way, it can help you easily claim you last few prizes =D.

Another idea you can try is machamp prime from triumphant. After 1 or 2 earthquakes, you can fighting tag to machamp prime and swing for 150-170 dmg with champ buster =D.

If you're looking for some synergy, then I agree with Ninja that you're best off pairing it with Machamp Prime. To expand on that, Donphan's ugly retreat cost is taken care of by Machamp's Fighting Tag and you also have a good, cheap back up attacker if you can't manage to get 3 Energies on Machamp.

Personally when I play Donphan, I just like to play it mostly by itself. Donphan's Poke-Body prevents all damage done to it, including from your own Pokemon, so its pretty safe on the bench. Since (in a deck like this) you're only attacking with Donphan most the time, the other damage is meaningless unless you're playing against stuff that can capitalize on the rest of the bench damage.

Also, welcome to the forums :D

Sorry for the delay. Thanks for the tips! I'll see if I can find someone willing to trade a machamp. I played my roommate last night and it was a beastly victory. My opening hand was all energy and one phanphy. I thought I was screwed. He went first and when I drew my first card...it was donphan. I swept house the entire game in a 6-0 shutout. :D

I hope I'm not hijacking this thread, but a deck I'm considering doing is based off of Donphan Prime and Ursaring Prime. I was planning on using Exploud to take care of both of their crappy weaknesses and was considering Warp Energy to get past the crappy retreat costs. (I could consider warp point but I'd like to make a deck that will survive the next format change. Course I'll have to get rid of Uxie and Azelf then too...)

Here's what I'm thinking:

4-4 Donphan Prime
4-4 Ursaring Prime
1-1-1 Exploud
2 Uxie
1 Azelf
2 UnownQ

Other than Warp Energy and DCE, what are some S/S/T that I should consider other than the staples of:

Bebe's
Collector
Communication
PONT
Black Belt (?)
Twins

Not sure I need BTS, Rare Candy, or E-Belts.

Your thoughts?

I meant with one of those, sorry for bad wording.

Who in their right mind would play 2 S2 lines and a S1 line? Lol...

Besides Typlosion/Charizard... assuming they play Ninetales.

If Stormfront gets rotated out would you simply go with the Triumphant Machamp line? or would you consider something else?

Thanks!

In that case go with a pure TR Machamp line. With SP probably largely out of the picture by then, the SF Champ won't be needed anymore anyway.

Ya that's a main reason why fire isn't on the top tier list right now. Fire worked back in the day with blaziken fire starter and EX because fire starter had the recursion power and EX was a better hitter then garchop is now.
