Effective League Fundraisers?

Good Morning Everyone!

I am the future League Organizer (still waiting on my background check to go through) for the Pokemon League of Southwest Virginia located in Abingdon, Virginia. In our league constitution we stated that we wanted to do a minimum of two community service projects per year, including fundraisers. We have tried a gift-wrapping fundraiser around the holidays, but I believe location was our biggest issue. We live in a very rural, and poor community and while we have many players who would love to travel their families cannot afford the expense. Fundraising would help us cover hotel, food, and gas costs which would lighten the load on our parents who are actively involved. What are some fundraisers you do to help fund the league that you have found have been successful? Do you try to keep them Pokemon related? Any and all suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Hmm. That is definitely a thought! I guess my question would be many of the individuals coming to these "clinics" would have no cards to practice with, how would you suggest everyone gets a deck with 60 cards to practice with? We have considered to do a big "Summer Camp" type thing, but because of the area we are in cost is always an issue. Even if we purchased a theme deck for every participant to teach with, plus the cost of lunch (1 day camp) we are probably looking at 25 dollars a kid and most parents can't justify that for one day. Maybe it's something we would have to just tinker with! :)

Well that's good to know that $25.00 doesn't seem outrageous! I figured it would cover the minimum cost of a theme deck, a slice of pizza, and a drink. Or parents could pay $20 just for the theme deck, and they can pack a lunch for their child?

A day camp can be a great idea, be sure to tell everyone if the time will overlap what would be considered a normal meal time that lunch/food will not be provided. While I do know that you in this be trying to raise money for the community service projects so some of the money raised would be going towards that but perhaps if you are working with a local game store perhaps they would be willing to work with you on the cost of some decks to help grow the league and the overall pokemon community

I will definitely ask the game store we are working with to maybe put towards the camp in some way. That's a great idea!
