You don't need special, he discards them for his attack so they won't do any good.
No, you use the specials. Often, it's the "just in case they escape" situations with Warp Point or Teleportation. You would be trying to avoid discarding them in favor of basic ones, and doing so only if absolutely necessary. Even then, It wouldn't be a good idea to discard those energy when you won't have enough energy to attack at all next turn. You can also put them on benched Magnezones to suppress Dual Splash, but even just nearly neutralizing all damage from Psychic Lock should be reason enough to include them.

C'mon, if the option is available to you, why wouldn't you exploit it? I doubt you will run out of searchable basic ones in the deck with six of them.

So, if you have a Magnezone Lv.X active and an Electivire on the bench, you pretty much hit for 80 and paralyze every turn so there's nothing they can do about it? That's gonna be huge...:nonono:

*incoherent mumbling* Looks like something I've been testing out for the last couple of weeks. -.-

My pokemon list is as follows:

2 Magnemite
2 Magneton
2 Magnezone (DP)
2 LX

3 Electabuzz
3 Electivire (SW) <- to be changed
1 Electivire LX

3 Dialga (MD)
1 Dialga LX

2 Rotom

Trainer line is being constantly played with. Energy line is:

4 Special Metal
4 Basic Metal
7 Lightning

Outlook:
Magnezone: I run the DP variant and not the new one for a reason. It has a great alternate attack to follow up with Cyber Blast that can finish off pretty much anything after the Paralysis shot. It gives everything in your deck free retreat as well as it going wherever the heck you want it.

Magnezone Level X: Sheer awesomeness, the only reason I don't think this card is the BDIF is because Armaldo will find some way around this guy, IMHO. He's gonna make Kingdra cry all over the place due to paralysis lock, and can be effected by Special Metal. Free Paralysis does not come very easily, and guys like Electivire only add to the UFO Magnets power. 80 damage + 70 from Metal Blast (with 3 metals) can nuke pretty much anything in 2 shots. (Saving silly things like Rhyperior LX that have 170 HP. :p), run 2 for consistency and the fact that 3 DP Zones isn't very practical. This guy can be your main attacker, though there are a lot of others in this deck.

Electivire SW: I don't use DP Vires in this deck. He was used for energy xfer and one quick kill. Zone X does that in a couple steps. This guy is used (If you have multiple, for multiple uses! XD) for his Motor Drive power. This is used to keep your opponents in a state of lockdown should it be necessary.

Electivire Level X: Yes, this guy can be used for a couple of reasons. His attack, Pulse Barrier is still not to be ignored. With some of the good tools coming out soon, as well as even more annoying stadiums (Stark Mountain, Snowpoint Temple), a quick 50 and a turn stall can be very beneficial to draw into some more metal energy, even as a finisher to get Zone Level X out for a turn or so also can be helpful in this situation. The energy attaching body will also be very helpful in flushing out later threats.

Dialga: Your OPENER. Yes, surprised to see this? Opener. A 100 HP wall with a Professor Birch like attack. You can flush as many cards as you like from your hand as possible, and have a fresh hand again. TGW getting you down? Get it all back. Absol giving you a headache? Get it all back. Psychic Resistance to make Gardevoir cry, and a lot of HP's make this guy nasty. Early game wall, just like the Kangaskhan (Jungle) of old.

Oh, I forgot to mention. This deck has Magnezone in it. This guy has more HP's than Chatot and free retreat. :3

Dialga Level X: This guys only optional. I like him for his stalling purposes, and you're already running the MD one, so if you get caught in bad set up, this guy isn't too bad for getting you out of a T2 pickle.

Oh, and attacking is practical if you know you can live because you can just bring him back home.

Rotom: At this moment, I like this guy better. I used him for recovery purposes and his attack does help a lot in getting a new guy set up. Heatran just adds extra LX's that I'm trying not to get and extra slots I could be using for trainer/supporters.

I did also run a Claydol in setup for a little while, but it did have some extra space issues, whether I use it or not is depending.

Special Metal should be used, its unpractical to not use it because it can't be pulled back from Rotom. Just don't discard it for Cyber Blast. If you play it right, by turn 3 you'll have the basic anyways.

Matchups sound pretty solid. Omastar might still want to stick around for this guy. Kingdra will have a bad time due to paralysis lock and weak to Vire. Almost nothing can shut this guy down power wise (I don't really care about Plox as it does menial damage to everything and can't shut down bodies, I'll just buy a turn and still setup. :p), Glaceon LX is weak to metal which means it dies in one shot to a good Metal Blast.

I really only truly fear Omastars de-evo abilities and Fire, and maybe Armaldo.
