Empocario--Advice on Trainer Engine Please

My son (who is too young to have a Pokegym account) is posting his Empoleon/Lucario deck before Regionals at my suggestion to get some advice on the trainer engine. I would appreciate advice only on the Trainer Engine and Energies (and on not on the Pokemon)--he is comfortable with the Pokemon with this combination having 2 solid attackers and the ability to snipe with Pacharisu acting as a good starter. Then why the post again??--because sometimes the deck stalls and I wanted to get some advice to make it potentially faster.

Funny, his list is so very close to my 7 year old's list. The difference is lack of draw supporters and my son doesn't run multis. I agree with kaze - cut the multis and a roseanne's and add some draw Prof Oak's Visit and Felicity's are nice and my son likes the disruption that he can cause with Team Galactic's Mars and/or Team Galactic's Wager. I appreciate all the useful advice. Does anyone agree with Elekid that Pacharisu doesn't make a good starter? Also, any preference regarding the draw cards in today's metagame and with this particular deck?
 
My son doesn't run Pachirisu. Either Piplup or Riolu seem like good starters for him so we kept it plain vanilla on the Pokemon.

I really like Professor Oak's Visit. You don't have to get rid of a card until after you draw and even then it goes back into your deck so it is not lost. One time my son put one of his Lv X on the bottom and then just Premeir Balled it back. The junior players (and not just the juniors!) like the disruption of Team Galactic's Mars and that pairs very nicely with Empoleon Lv X's Supreme Command. Place 2 cards out of play, then pull another from the opponent's hand with TGM.
 
I dont really like lucario, cause it can die easily yo gardy or mag, but add in a TSD for the glacias.
 
Here is the link of my daughters list that won a CC and 3rd in NC States, should look familiar, she made one change by switching the NM with a TSD. She tried many many different ways and this one works the best!!

Gardy is tough but can be beat, empoleon takes care of mag. Right about TSD.

Perhaps instead of pachi, run a claydol line in the deck. Cess crystal isnt going to be used often, so maybe running that will help you a lot with your draw power?
 
I was actually thinking, similar to my own Empoleon/Palkia deck, to run 3 Lapras as my starter for drawer power. Thoughts from forum members?
 
i think roilu would be the best starter so you can have a chance to DONK people and can then have T2 lucario which most pokemon can't kill by T2
 
I don't disagree but do you still need a starter Pokemon in addition so you don't Mulligan too often and in Lapras' case, to help you mobilize your supporters?

no if your lucky you can get a pokemon in your first drawing hand but if yo have a real problem then you can have a starter
 
My son and I found that starters slowed down the deck actually and he either had to wait for it to be knocked out or it would sit on the bench as snipe bait. He does mulligan at times though.
 
I'd drop these cards:

-3 Castaway
-1 Glacia’s Stadium
-1 Strength Charm
-1 Amulet Coin
-1 Premier Ball
-2 Fighting Energy
-2 Night Maintenance

and i would add in:

+2 Lapras GE ( does the same thing as castaway but is more useful in this deck type not to mention is a excellent starter)
+3 Plus Power DP (you can stack these together unlike strength charm)
+2 Prof Oka's Visit (some need some draw power in the deck)
+2 Copycat (good hand refresh in case you get some dead draws or a crappy hand)
+2 Water energy ( cause you will be running lapras so you'll need a little more water energy)

i believe this can make the deck a little more consistant, even though you run a search engine a little drawing power goes a long way

Keep the X. My son has won several games in Sudden death with its attack. Drop the Pachy for Tauros. It can get rid of Crytal Beach and if you have to start with it then you got at least two on the bench.
 
Id drop:
-2 Basic Fighting
-1 Basic Water
-2 Castaway
-1 Pachirisu(You really don't need it but you can hit hard againt's deck that run on cessation)
-1 Amulet Coin
-1 Night Maintenance
-1 Prinplup
And to make somekind of better supporting engine:
-3 Professor Oak's Visit(you need someking of drawing and 3 is the magic number in these things)
-1 Team Galactic's Wager(you can disrupt your opponent's game and also refresh your hand if didn't have what you needed before playing RPS)
-1 Copycat (good hand refresh)
-2 Steven's Advice (good drawing and can draw sometimes more cards than you would with Oak's Visit)
-1 Rare Candy(help's you get Empoleon early)
-1 Double Rainbow(you can get more easier t2 Empoleon)
