Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

Empoleon Making a Comeback?

Empoleon is horrible after the format change... The simple reason.... No Cursed Stone. Sorry to spoil the party but... Empoleon DP1 is just a terrible card now. It gets owned by nearly all the decks in the format. Spreading damage isn't waht it used to be because of all the pokemon in the newer sets having high HP. I really think even banette has a big advantage over Empoleon, cause empoleon is "Sluggish".

JMO.

That is a LOAD OF CRAP!!! Empoleon, like BBC said, can STILL hang with ANY deck!!! You are just NOT thinking enough to KNOW how GREAT Empoleon STILL is. Everyone is TOO into wanting to WIN!!! Yeah WINNING is good, BUT WHEN you WIN with something that isnt EXPECTED too, you grab EVERYONES ATTENTION!!! I am SORRY, BUT if you give up on Empoleon or any other so-called "washed-up" Pokemon THAT QUICK, then this FORMAT is Just up to THE COMPANY to decide what DECK COMBO is the BEST!!! I am NOT one to do that, yeah I am a NOOB, BUT I and any other Rogue player ISNT going to let SCARED players from keeping us from trying to WIN with what we have SPENT SO MUCH time WORKING on, compared to Arche players who just KNOW what they are running at the NEXT tourney, because they CANT build there OWN stuff !!!

NO Fingers Pointed!!!

Then you have'nt played against a good list. I possibly might play Empoloen over my GG deck.

Empoleon + WP + a good player = good.

Dang right, Dude!!! If you have Experience with a Certain Pokemon and played it against various Archetypes and can WIN, NO Problem!!! You just Cant play something a FEW times or whatever and GIVE UP on it when things GO BAD!!! Just TEST, EDIT, Repeat until it is PERFECT to YOUR Ability!!!

Hey, i was just saying my opinion.... So please no bashing aye. I just find that it hold it's own against the big decks of today... I wasn't saying it was bad. I was just saying,

A) Empoleon has 130 HP for a S2 which is common now.
B) 3 For 70 Now is not as good as it used to be, But the extra spread is nice i guess.
C) I can snipe but without Cursed Stone (CS) it can't take full advantage of it's sniping skills.
D) 2 for 40 is alright.
E) Since everything has more hp, no one basically plays exs these days, so only 1 prize with pokemon that have 130ish hp, it just doesn't work.

Thats all i was saying... And if you want to know... I have beaten Empoleons with my Inferncatty.. This new format has made empoleons match against Infernape a 55-45 in it's favour instead of the old 70-30 or more favour.

In Closing Cursed Stone was the main reason why Empoleon was good.

Well...maybe alone!!! But, You can still COMBO him with A LOT of different Pokemon!!! He is so Versatile(like Mew EX, jk) He can work with many other Strategys. He works VERY WELL with Cessation Crystal OF COURSE!!! You Just have to TAKE TIME to look and try to find different ideas and combos for him to work with, amd NOT GIVE UP or BE LAZY!!! I PLAY to BEAT the Metagame and to be KNOWN for Great Deck ideas, NOT just Winning!!! That is Why I feel strongly for Empo, I wished I would have played when he FIRST came out, BUT I CANT so, DONT Give up on the Penguin GUY!

He shall Return, while ruling with a Iron Fist!!!

I am NOT Bashing on ANYONE, just that you guys are BASHING on Empoleon, for NO reason!!!

Except there... Is a reason to not like Empoleon :/
Unlike Gardevoir, it doesn't speed up your set up. At all. This means you are behind in speed.
Unlike Gardevoir, it doesn't slow the opponent's set up (No, sniping does not prevent them from using Claydol's powers). This means you can't recover from being behind in speed.
Unlike Magmortar, it will never OHKO any stage 2 pokemon, and can't OHKO several commonly played stage 1s, meaning you are behind in power.
Unlike Typholosion, you can't remove energies with Empoleon's attacks, meaning you can't recover from being behind in power.
Unlike Typholosion or Blaziken, it can't make energy hit the table fast. This means you will be behind in power or unable to recover should they knock out your Empoleon.

It is durable though, that's a conceded point. Gardevoir has a heck of a time taking it out, and Gallade's being seen less and less as people realize how superior Gardevoir is. In fact, Empoleon beats Garde in a one on one match (70 damage twice KOs Garde, where as 60 twice doesn't KO Empoleon. It's even worse when you consider how Garde usually uses DRE). That being said, Empoleon takes a bit to build up, as most damage spreaders would. Although Gardevoir specifically can't two hit KO Empoleon, Gardevoir usually will have a back up hitter on the bench ready to attack after the first falls. What does Empoleon typically have to act as back up...?

No.
You never run Empoleon for itself.

If you play with Claydol, you have speedup.
If you play with Palkia/Mantine or with Cessation Crystal, you have slowdown für your opponent that is far more critical than what Gardevoir does (anyone wanna have Claydol active without GardyX/DRE/WarpPoint? Lost turn for sure and most times lost energy).

btw State Championships Hannover:

1.) Empoleon/Mantine/Palkia
2.) Cresselia/Darkrai/Weavile
3.) Empoleon/Mantine/Palkia
4.) Magmortar/Togekiss/Claydol

That was no random States, there were some good players.
But there were only few G&Gs and more Magmortars.

I understand, GREAT Points!!! I am just saying he can STILL be VERY useful!!! There is just something about him, I cant get over!!! It takes time to get him going just right, BUT finding that great combo CAN BE worth while!!! If PLAYED right He can Back up HIMSELF quite well, NOT the TANK he USED to be BUT a VERY Useful Pokemon, I just LOVE the ability to Spread Damage with someone OTHER than the Usual Fire Beasts. But, He ISNT going away anytime soon, I am NOT the ONLY person NOT giving up on him, and YOU shouldnt either!!!

It's just good. What else is there to say? It spreads damage and has magmortar's weakness. It can be paired with almost ANY sniping pokemon and has really good attacks. I think that it's good enough to play in regionals. What do you think?

Uhh, it is a sniping POkémon? I wouldn't actually use the Lv. X, just use normal Empoleon and A LOT of Rare Candys. BTW Worlds 2007= Yamato= Spread Empoleon= 3rd place Masters. See? Empoleon rox!

I LOVE EMPO, BUT they are trying to say he CANT be Great anymore, which is CRAZY!!!

You're right! Empoleon isn't as good as he used to be, but he's still an awesome card! Piplup+RareCandy+Prinplup+attack+Empoleon+WP= win.

I didnt say he WASNT GOOD ANYMORE, but that strat is ON POINT!!!
Whisperes*( dont be telling my Strategy to everyone, lol)*

does anyone know where 2 c the empoleon theme decklist, cause i'm thinkingof buying 1 or 2 4 the empoleon line i would go 2 the store but i don't want to waste gas

Empoleon will definately make an impact with this new one out. IMO, it is one of the best cards in the format.

Heck yes, I LOVE Empo MD, I luckly got 4 at Pre-release!!!
There are a Few Great combos in this set for him,(Bronzong, Chingling(starter), Zapdos, Aerodactyle, etc.)
